Item A Critique on the Role of Social Media; Facebook(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Padmasiri, M. K. D.; Kawshalya, M. D. P.This literature review reviews various roles of Facebook (FB) are playing in today's globalized world. According to literature, Facebook plays roles in various fields such as, marketing, online games, education, teaching, romantic relationship management, managing relationship among friends, and stakeholder engagement. The current study limits its investigation in to selected roles of Facebook such as academic teaching, marketing and romantic relationship management. One finding of the stated that using blogging tools to further develop relationships with undergraduate and graduate students and engage them in meaningful discussions outside of class time. According to another studies Facebook plays a major role in romantic relationship management which creates emotional outcomes as relationship satisfaction and trait jealousy. Further literature argues that network is important in changing the way of business talk with customer and indicates that Facebook plays a role as a communication channel in marketing at business level. Review discussed that FB plays important roles such as, FB in academic teaching, FB in marketing, and FB in romantic relationship. Based on above discussion study can conclude that Facebook plays an important role in various fields.Item Why People Procrastinate on Facebook: Case Study from Employed and Unemployed Facebook Users in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya., 2024) Lakchan, U. G. C.; Samaraweera, G. C.; Rathnayake, T. H.Procrastination is the intentional postponing of a necessary or devoted task, which can have a number of adverse impacts, including distress, physiological health issues, poor work performance, and subpar academic success. The study aims to analyze and compare procrastination levels among employed and unemployed Facebook users, exploring the reasons behind their procrastination, which is crucial from both an economic and informational perspective. Additionally, it seeks to investigate the association between procrastination on Facebook and the users' education levels. The study also examines how procrastination on Facebook differs between males and females. Positivistic research Philosophy, deductive approach and explanatory research design were deployed for this study. The study used convenience sampling technique and, 300 employed and unemployed Facebook users were taken for analysis of Independent sample test, Anova test and post hoc-tukeys test. Accordingly, five factors namely notification features, immersive decision features, surveillance of presence, identification features, and interaction features were utilized to gauge the degree of procrastination. The findings of this study outlined the causes of procrastination and revealed a substantial difference between employed and unemployed Facebook users in terms of procrastination levels on social media sites. Additionally, results showed that there is a considerable variation between males and females too. The findings will provide a deep knowledge for marketers, psychologists and for academics as well.Item Influence of Facebook Application on Consumer Purchase Decision.(8th International Conference on Business & Information ICBI – 2017, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Wijerathna, I. D. C.The study has researched the influence of Facebook applications on consumer purchase decision. It assesses whether consumers take notice of Facebook users responses and activities when they make a purchase decision for a recommended product or service on Facebook. The study is mainly concerned, like button, share button, comment posting and location-based check-in as predictors. Two hundred of Facebook users participated for an online survey to gather data for the research study. Likes, Comments and sharing are positively influence to the purchase decision of consumers. Friend’s likes and Location based check-in do not positively influence the consumer purchase decision. The current study limits its investigation in to selected roles of Facebook due to develop a narrow scope for this review. Hence selected roles of Facebook are academic teaching, marketing and romantic relationship management. One finding of the Bullock, 2011, is using blogging tools to further develop relationships with undergraduate and graduate students and engage them in meaningful discussions outside of class time. According to the studies of Beukeboom, 2011, Facebook plays a major role in romantic relationship management which creates emotional outcomes as relationship satisfaction and trait jealousy. Scolbe, 2006 argues that network is important in changing the way of business talk with customer and Bonsón, 2013 and Dholakia, 2010 indicates that Facebook plays a role as a communication channel in marketing at business level. Among them researchers have identifies FB plays an important role in connecting the social networks but to develop the scope to this study selected roles of FB are, FB in academic teaching, FB in marketing, FB in romantic relationship and FB in online games. Based on the discussion, it can be concluded that Facebook plays an important role in various fields.
