Item The Effect of Emotional Resilience on Job Performance of Executives in Selected Private Sector Organizations in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Ekanayake, H. L.; Gamage, P. N.When operating in a complex work environment, it is obvious that the companies will have to face many challenges and changes. This will create a stressful work environment for the employees who are working. It is mandatory to have more resilient employees, who can quickly recover from the stress, as it affects directly to their low performance. The sole purpose of this study is to identify the impact of the ability of the individuals to quickly bounce back from the stressful situations and how does it impact on employees’ work performance. The study was an explanatory cross-sectional in nature. The simple random sampling technique has been used as the sampling method. The researcher distributed a questionnaire among the participants in the selected sample which encompasses 74 respondents from three selected companies where two companies are possessing 25 employees each and 24 employees from another company consists of executive level employees. In addition, the items of the questionnaire were extracted from a standard and well-tested measurement scale. Descriptive statistics, correlation and regression were used to analyze the collected data set in order to get in to a statistically supported conclusion. The findings have revealed that there is a significant relationship between the emotional resilience and the employee performance and also there is a impact comes from the employees’ emotional resilience on the employees’ work performance and the results depicted that 24.4% of an impact comes from emotional resilience. The findings of the research study will be beneficial for the companies who will hire more resilient individuals, who can quickly adapt and who can quickly recover from the hectic situations.Item IMPACT OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE WITH THE MEDIATING EFFECT OF CREATIVITY: A STUDY OF EXECUTIVE LEVEL EMPLOYEES IN ABC (PVT) LTD IN TIRE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY IN SRI LANKA(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2025) Gunarathne, R.B.I.R.; Jayasinghe, C.This research aims to examines the impact of emotional intelligence on employee performance in executive level employee category in ABC Pvt Ltd, a tire manufacturing company in Sri Lanka, emphasizing the mediation role of creativity. Emotional intelligence, which comprises empathy as well as self-awareness, is increasingly taken to be one of the key determinants of performance, not least in fast-changing organizational environments that are now common. Such relationship can further be empowered toward innovation and problem-solving with creativity. For this using a quantitative cross sectional survey design, 300 executive staff members were the population and a sample of 169 employees were taken. A structured questionnaire measuring emotional intelligence, creativity, and employee performance using a 5-point Likert scale was used to collect data. Statistical analysis performed included correlation and regression through SPSS for establishing relationship and hypotheses testing. Findings of the research demonstrated that emotional intelligence is a significant positive contributor to employee performance levels. This also favors creativity, which influences employee performance. Creativity served as a key mediator in strengthening the relationship between emotional intelligence and its performance outcomes. These results underline the importance of emotional intelligence and creativity in enhancing organizational efficiencies and innovations. This study has identified as crucial emotional intelligence and creativity in enhancing employee performance in the manufacturing sector. Organizations should then consider the necessity of emotional intelligence and creativity development through training and leadership development programs for better productivity and innovation.Item Measuring Employees’ Performance in the Public Sector in Sri Lanka: Testing of Two Models(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2013) Dhammika, K.A.S.Performance of employees of an organization is a key concern of managers irrespective of their level and position. This is highly relevant when an organization is experiencing a down word trend or a standstill in their employees’ performance. Assessment of employees’ performance is required for effective performance management in organizations. However, a relatively little attention has been paid by researchers for the identification of an appropriate model of performance for employees in Sri Lankan context particularly for the public sector. The purpose of this reported study was to test the two alternative models of performance on their goodness for assessing the performance the employees of the selected public sector organizations in Sri Lanka. A sample of 200 employees was selected representing 11 public sector organizations for the study. Standard questionnaire was used for the data collection which assesses the performance on dimensions of the two models and both exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were applied for the analysis of data. It was found that the role based model of performance recorded better model fit statistics over two factor model. The study revealed that the behavioral factors such as the job, career, team, innovator and organization are important aspects to be concerned in assessment of performance of employees. Both theoretical and practiocal implications of the finding emphazising on performance management were discussed.Item The Impact of Leadership Styles on Employee Performance(Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Chamika, M.W.; Gunasekara, U.L.T.P.The study expects to assess the effect of leadership styles on employee’ performance in banking industry. The main objective of the study is to examine the effect of different leadership styles specially transformational and transactional leadership styles on employee’ performance. A cross section descriptive survey research strategy was implemented in which 80 usable structured questionnaires were collected. The leadership styles were measured through the Multi factor Leadership Questionnaire developed by Avolio and Bass (1995), modified to fit the context of the study. Employees’ performance was measured by the performance scale of Yousef (2000). Pearson’s correlation and regression analysis were used to evaluate both relationships and effects as per the hypotheses of the study. The findings illustrate that transformational leadership style is the most exhibited style at the banks. Bank employee performance is above average and overall, transformational leadership style was found to be strongly correlated with employee performance. The results suggest that supervisors in banks need to use a lot of transformational leadership behaviors or rather embrace transactional leadership style. From the results, transformational leadership could have larger effects on employee productivity and quality of performance. It is recommended therefore that Transformational leadership is the most effective leadership style in improving employee performance.
