    Workplace Stress as a Predictor of Absenteeism of the Employees of Selected Manufacturing Firms in Lagos State, Nigeria

    Absenteeism whether voluntary or involuntary is a manifestation of continued stress whose outcome is highly negatively engender poor results as well as low delivery of tasks among employees. One hundred and fifty (150) employees of five selected manufacturing firms in Lagos State served as respondents for the study through purposive and convenience sampling methods. Findings revealed that a significant and positive nexus was found between emotional exhaustion and voluntary absenteeism with “0.743>0.5”; also, a strong and positive correlation existed between psychological consequences and involuntary absenteeism with “0.913>0.5”. The study concluded that activities in the manufacturing environment is massive and has huge propensity to induce stress and high burnout rate thus culminating into high level of work alienation and absenteeism. Therefore, management should on a constant basis lookout for activities that poses stress on employees, such should be given rapt attention and curtailed to avoid work estrangement within and among employees.

    IMPACT OF WELLNESS PROGRAMS ON JOB STRESS AND EMOTIONAL EXHAUSTION: A STUDY OF NURSES IN A LEADING PRIVATE HOSPITAL IN SRI LANKA

    This study examines the impact of wellness programs on emotional exhaustion and job stress among nurses, with a specific focus on a leading private hospital. The main target of this study to understand what the impact of wellness programs on emotional exhaustion and job stress among nurses in a leading private hospital in Sri Lanka is. Wellness programs are examined through emotional exhaustion as the dependent variable and job stress as a mediator. Additionally, the study considers how demographic variables such as age, gender, higher level of education, marital status, years of working this organization and years of working in current position contribute to the relationship among wellness programs, emotional exhaustion and job stress. A total of 100 nurses were initially targeted, and 93 responded, but consider the 75 respondents because of appear the outliner. Providing the sample size for this study. Quantitative data were collected using a self-structured questionnaire. Specifically, the study employed a simple regression model and Correlation Matrix in SPSS Analytical software to determine the impact of the independent variables on the dependent variables. Also, mediator effect is analysis by online calculator. The results of the analysis indicate a statistically significant positive relationship. Future research should consider increasing the sample size and expanding the geographic scope to validate and generalize these findings across all the hospitals of Sri Lanka.

    The Impact of Job Demands and Job Resources on Work Family Conflict: A Conceptual Framework for Research

    Busy schedules in this contemporary world widen the boundaries between family life and work life, which created Work Family Conflict and has become a prevalent issue among individuals. Even though there are considerable amount of studies conducted on this area, there remain few empirical and theoretical findings on extending the Job Demands- Resource theory in to work family domain, especially in the Asian context. Further, this concept paper propose the mediation effect of emotional exhaustion on the relation between job demands and job resources on work family conflict and propose the moderation effect of job demands and job resources. A conceptual model is proposed at the end of the paper that enables the future researchers to test empirically in different environments. The significance of this paper is, it proposes the mediating effect of emotional exhaustion, which has not been examined to explain the relationship between job demands and job resources with work family conflict in the previous research studies while advising managers to find what factors make employees less exhausted and enjoy their work that reduce work family conflict
