Item Work Life Balance and Commitment of Government Hospital Nurses(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Dayananda, K. H. M. K.; Samarakoon, S. M. A. K.The nurses play a crucial role in the government hospital and their commitment and the work life balance seem to have a greater impact to make ensure quality of health sector in the country. The main emphases of the study are to figure out the factors affect to the Work Life Balance (WLB) on government hospital nurses in Sri Lanka and to analysis the Work Life Balance influence on job Commitment among government hospital nurses. The study conducted using primary data gathered focusing government hospitals in Colombo area. Participants are asked to complete structural questionnaires, which were developed to measure demographic factors and research variables. Questionnaires distributed among nurses working in the selected three hospitals in Colombo district. Hundred and five competed questionnaires returned from respondents. Hundred competed questionnaires were used to final data analysis. Descriptive statistics and correlation analysis and regression were utilized to data analysis. The study assessed the effect of four independent variables on the Work Life Balance and it was found the working environment, work stress, financial encouragement and Job Autonomy have greater impact to the work life balance. It was found that the working environment, work stress, financial encouragement and Job Autonomy has greater impact to the Work Life Balance. Public sector still plays a vibrant role in every country. If public sector employees are not satisfied with their motives, employee performance will deteriorate and inefficiency will be increased. It may also be a part of grievances, low productivity, disciplinary problems and other organization difficulties. Moreover, it is noted that Work life balance and working commitment have strong positive relationship. In this context, it can be concluded that the proper WLB will lead to high working commitment in nursing professionals. Further higher WLB leads to enhance the quality of health service in the country.Item FACTORS AFFECTING TURNOVER INTENTION OF OPERATIONAL LEVEL EMPLOYEES IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY IN SRI LANKA(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2025) Dananjaya, W.N.; Gamage, P.N.In today’s dynamic world, human resource management has become a very significant and important management field, and companies must be concerned about utilizing their workforce efficiently and effectively to achieve their goal and objectives. This study focuses on discussing the Factors Affecting the Turnover Intention of Operational Level Employees in the Construction Industry in Sri Lanka. The problem of the study is “Factors Affecting Turnover Intention of Operational Level Employees in the Construction Industry in Sri Lanka” which is identified by studying the literature gap in this area. The research was quantitative research. This cross-sectional research gathered data through a questionnaire from a sample of 250 employees selected through a stratified proportionate random sampling method. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire using a simple random sampling technique. Correlation analysis and simple regression analysis were used to measure the relationship and to test the advanced hypotheses of the study by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). In conclusion, as the key findings of the study, it was found That work-life balance, working environment, Job Security, and Work Stress factors impact employee turnover in the construction industry in Sri Lanka.Item Role Demands and Work-Life Balance among Women Lecturers in Sri Lankan Universities(9th International Conference on Business and Information (ICBI-2018), Department of Management Studies and Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, India, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Welmilla, I.At present, finding a balance between the role demands of work, family and work life balance is a challenging problem for women employees. This issue has been discussed in many professions by the researchers such as military, managers, and factory workers as on. This study is particularly relevant for teaching profession especially for the university academic staff. Work and personal lives are one of the most challenging aspects of female academicians. Therefore, university academic staff are facing a greater challenge in achieving a balance between professional and personal life due to the demands of work and family roles. There, multiple roles influence both the professional and personal life balancing thus, most women academic staff are under pressure to balance the priorities of family and work. The main purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between role demands of work, family and work life balance. Also, this study tried to explore the factors that influence the supportive work life balance of the women academic staff in university. The qualitative and quantitative research designs were used to achieve the study’s objectives that were, to examine the relationship between role demands of work, and family, and work life balance and explore the factors that influence supportive work life balance among women lectures in state universities. In quantitative phase of the study, a questionnaire survey was used to gather data from state universities in Sri Lanka. There were 265 responses were obtained. Twenty in -depth interviews were conducted in same universities as gathering qualitative data. Finding of structural equation modeling indeed indicate that the significant negative relationship between role demands and work life balance, it fills a gap in the literature by validating the associations between role demands and work life balance dimensions. The qualitative data were analyzed via thematic exploratory analysis, which suggest that supportive factors for work life balance, such as workplace flexibility, avoiding role interference, correct prioritization, good working environment and personal factors against the role demands, that will be useful to Sri Lankan women in the academic profession to avoid their imbalance of work and family life and it also sends an important message to individuals to encourage work and family satisfaction. This study focused only the academics women’s work life balance experience. Thus, it needs to encourage the research in this area focusing men and both gender and other professions in other sectors.Item Relationship Between the Personality Type and Work Life Balance Among Academic Staff of University of Kelaniya(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2013) Padmasiri, M.K.D.; Mahalaekamge, W.G.S.The focus of this research is to find out the impact of different types of personality and Work Life Balance (WLB) of academic staff of University of Kelaniya. Researchers used standardized personality assessment named as Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to assess the type of personality. Objectives are, to examine the impact of personality type of academic staff in University of Kelaniya on their WLB, to identify the level and type of personality of academic staff, to identify the level of WLB of academic staff and to recommend suitable personality type for WLB. Research sample consisted with 180 lecturers out of 560 University of Kelaniya. Standardized questionnaire used to collect data. Collected data analyzed and evaluated manually as well as using the SPSS and Excel. By considering the nature of the study conducted an Anova test. According to MBTI there are 16 personality types where one personality consists with 4 indicators. Indicators are as follow, IIntroversion, E-Extraversion, S- Sensing, I- Intuition, T- Thinking, FFeeling, J- Judging, P- Perception. In sample ISFJ, ISTJ, ESFJ and ENFJ each personality type have 4 indicators, ISFP, INTP, ESTJ and ENTJ each personality type has 3 indicators, INFJ has 2 indicators and INTJ, ISTP, ESTP, ENFP and ENTP each personality has only 1 indicator. According to the findings ISTP, ISFP, INTP, ESTP, ESFP, ISTJ, ENFP, ENTP, ESTJ, ESFJ, ENFJ, ENTJ personality have work life balance but people who have ISFJ, INFJ, INTJ, INFP personality have moderately balanced work life. There are no WL imbalance respondents. Sample consisted with 133 females & 47 males. Mean value of females and males are 36.57 and 34.44. Researcher recommended to enhance Extraversion, Intuition and Feeling indicators to execute the responders’ teacher career effectively. And suggested to enhance ENTP which emphasized Visionary career and its well match with the teacher career. Finally recommended to INTJ personality responders to attempt to change N indicator to become S by enhancing sensing abilities to balance WL. Further research areas are find WLB of academic staff with each personality type but respond to gender differentiation, marital status differences.
