    Employee Training for Sustainable Development: Insights from Siṅgāla sutta

    The Siṅgāla sutta (Discourse to Sigala) elucidates the dynamics of social relationships by delineating duties and obligations across six domains. This discourse emphasizes the importance of understanding and practicing these obligations as its central teaching. It is proposed that the sutta can be subjected to an alternative analysis, to enhance the overall sustainable development of society This study aims to explore the utilization and influence of those doctrinal elements on human and organizational behavior, fostering stronger interpersonal connections and more robust governance structures. In addition to the six quarters, the discourse encompasses key concepts such as the Four Corrupt Deeds, Four Grounds, Six Drains on Wealth, and Six Drawbacks of Drinking. Employing content analysis as a methodological approach, this study delves into the qualitative examination of these doctrinal concepts to preserve the discourse's authenticity and depth. It seeks to unravel the interconnectedness between social, physical, mental, spiritual and educational advancements resulting from the diligent practice of these foundational teachings, which extend beyond the benefits derived from fulfilling duties and obligations across the six quarters. Ultimately, this study endeavors to elucidate how these factors influence individual and organizational capacities, enhancing skills and capabilities for the betterment of society as a whole.

    The Role of Women Entrepreneurs in Establishing a Sustainable Development in Sri Lanka

    Woman has become a significant role in the economic development of any country. They contribute and support the economy extensively in different ways of being employed in different sectors. There are many women running successful businesses and some of them are very successful with entrepreneurial skills. It is a known fact that now many successful and world’s enormous enterprises are owned and run by women. Many of them are actual or potential owners of trademarks, service marks, trade name as well as of industrial designs, patents and copyright. In developing countries some women are running small enterprises and many cooperatives that are proving so successful. Women entrepreneurs in both developed and developing countries are, socially powerful in education and making a positive impact to the society. It is important to study how women in business and their skills can be utilized in order to achieve a sustainable economy for Sri Lanka. The objectives of this study have scattered in the study of women entrepreneurs to a sustainable economy, social system, and ecology. A descriptive research methodology is used for this study and administered to a selected sample from a specific population included with women in businesses and executives who are from private and public sector offices. The study consists of six month duration which uses a questionnaire as the survey instrument. Using the survey, it has resulted significantly the women entrepreneurs can be positioned to play an important role in promoting sustainable practices in economics, social system and ecology, to result a sustainable development. The researcher concludes the study by observing the positive effect on the economy and the development, the Women entrepreneurship is a key to the developing world to promote sustainable practices in business.

    Corporate Social Responsibility and Social, Economic and Environmental Development in Sri Lanka

    This study reports Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its present contribution of Sri Lankan context. CSR is renowned and known concept however, it is a new concept in Sri Lanka and research into this area relatively scarce compared with other Asian developing countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and China. Furthermore, this study reveals complete on the theoretical development and the current CSR practices in Sri Lankan organisations, based on the literature and the researcher’s CSR experience tried to achieve the research objectives which was to identify the basic activities of CSR that was implemented in the Sri Lanka’s organisations. Government and non-government organisations (NGO) have been implemented rules and regulations for community development, health and education development as well as environmental development, which are part of the CSR plans identified by international CSR standards. The government and the private sector both favour the adoption of CSR concepts, and are attempting to promote the implementation of CSR programmes in Sri Lanka.

    Corporate sustainability: A Literature Review

    This review article intends to bring a better understanding to the field of corporate sustainability as studied by previous scholars. Since the end of the 1990s, corporate sustainability has become a growing interest theme in business and academia. However, literature is still limited in quantity. This review paper provides a review of 50 articles dating from 2002 to 2016 from journals related to accounting, business, and management. The paper summarizes the corporate sustainability evolution, different definitions, measures and applied theories throughout the literature. The findings highlight that corporate sustainability field is still evolving and then different approaches have been used to define, measure and theorize corporate sustainability. Overall, review evidences that a commonly agreed definition of sustainability is lacking. Thus, concepts of corporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility have been used simultaneously in many contemporary studies since they are precisely indistinguishable.
