Item The Impact of Green Human Resource Management towards the Career Development of Employees: A Study of Frontline Employees in the Hotel Industry Sri Lanka(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Upamali, D. P. F.; Dharshani, R. K. N. D.This study investigates the impact of green human resource management on career development of the employees of the Hotel and Tourism Industry in Sri Lanka. Data were collected from the randomly selected Green Hotels’ front line employees in Matale and Dambulla areas in Sri Lanka using a questionnaire. A quantitative methods were used to analyze data. The results revealed that there is a positive moderate impact of Green HRM on career development of front line employees. There are many other factors which can affect the career development of employees such as personality, education, culture and job performance. This study also sought to determine the Green HRM practices of the hotel and tourism industry in Sri Lanka. This study, referring a novel concept of Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) practices in Sri Lankan context. In Sri Lanka there are people who have never heard about this concept and some people who have heard about the concept are not clear about what it is. This study explores GHRM processes in Sri Lankan context which is a new emerging area. Recently, there has been growing interest as well as awareness within the business communities on the 'significance ongoing green and adopting various environment management techniques. As the corporate world is globalized, the business is experiencing a shift from the conventional financial structure to a modern capacity-based economy which is ready to explore green economicfacets of business. Today, GHRM has become a key business strategy for organizations where Human Resource Departments plays a significant role infocusing on going green. The methodology applied in this study is documentary review or a type of book research. This research largely focuses upon the several GHRM Processes pursued by the organizations in Sri Lanka and, explains the simplified meaning of GHRM. This concept is more important and valuable for Sri Lankan organizations 10 achieve competitive advantage at globally.Item Level of Adaptation of Green Human Resource Management Practices in the Apparel Industry in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Krishantha, P.D.D.M.; Mohan, D.U.This study is dedicated to identify the extent to which the human resource management processes have aligned with green management practices as green human resource management practices in the Apparel Industry in Sri Lakethe sample was selected based on simple random sampling method and population refers to the apparel industry in Sri Lanka. For the selected sample of thirteen companies in the apparel industry in Sri Lanka, well-structured questionnaire was distributed and the results gathered from the responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics technique for testing the achievement of objectives and frequencies and percentages for data presentation. Data were collected using both primary and secondary sources. Primary data were collected through questionnaires and secondary data was collected from the previous studies, websites, books, articles and other related publications. Twelve objectives were set to test eleven human resource management practices to achieve the research purpose. Findings revealed that only job design and analysis showed a high level of adaptation of green management concept while all the other human resource management practices showed moderate and low level of adaptation of green management concepts. Thus, the study bridged a gap in the literature in revealing the extent of adopting green human resource management practices in the apparel industry in Sri Lanka, while recommending to the apparel companies to adapt green HRM at least in the major HR processes like recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, reward management and health and safety management in order to improve their environmental performance in a more sustainable manner.
