Item The Impact of Job Tension on Job Satisfaction: A Study on Executive Level Employees of the Apparel Industry in Anuradhapura District of Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Yasarathne, K. H. V. P.; Nishanthi, H. M.; Mendis, M. V. S.Apparel industry in Sri Lanka has become major contributor to Sri Lanka’s economic development. Due to supply of low cost creative labour and organizational friendly government policies, many international apparel brands and apparel firms are outsourcing their manufacturing functions to Asian countries. Of those, Sri Lanka is a leading country where most apparel sector giants are interested to invest in. Further, in Sri Lankan context apparel sector is highly competitive as quite a number of big giants such as MAS Holdings, Brandix Apparel Lanka Ltd, Hela Clothing (Pvt) Ltd are operating in the market. Due to this high competitiveness in the industry, greater struggle is visible to attract and retain key talent. However, retaining talent has become difficult due to the job tension associated with high competitiveness. In the current study, the researchers attempt to investigate in depth the impact of job tension on job satisfaction of the executive level employees of the Apparel Industry, with special reference to Anuradhapura District. The executive level employees in three leading garment manufacturing organizations in Sri Lanka were investigated through a sample of 100 employees. Simple random sampling method was used to select the representative sample. A self-administrated structured questionnaire was used to collect data. The correlation analysis and regression analysis were used to test the research hypotheses. The study confirmed that job tension is significantly correlated with employee job satisfaction. The findings of the study also indicated that there is a strong negative relationship between job tension and job satisfaction of executive level employees. This study directly provides a major theoretical contribution filling the gaps of former studies which were done on apparel sector. The findings and the recommendations of the current research directly addresses lot of practical issues related to job tension and job satisfaction faced by the apparel firms.Item Impact of psychological contract on employee outcomes of job satisfaction and organizational commitment: evidence from a leading apparel manufacturing company in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Nishanthi, H. S.The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of psychological contract on employee outcomes of job satisfaction and organizational commitment in a leading apparel company. Companies that invest more effort in achieving higher level psychological contract between their employees, employer and organization have satisfied and committed employees. The research design is descriptive in nature. A simple random sampling has been used to select the sample. The participant in the study was 50 executive level employees in a leading apparel company in Sri Lanka. Standard questionnaire is distributed to collect data. Based on the analysis, researcher identified that there is a strong positive relationship between psychological contract and employee outcomes of job satisfaction and organizational commitment. As well as based on findings researchers established that there is a significant impact of psychological contract and employee outcomes of job satisfaction and organizational commitment.Item Welfare facilities and job satisfaction: a study of operational level employees in the apparel industry of Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Mendis, M. V. S.People become the most important asset to any company in today’s business world. Unlike physical assets, human assets can be developed, improved and motivated to achieve the goals and objectives of an organization. Further satisfied employees will make the organization to achieve its goals and objectives smoothly. Therefore keep employees satisfy is a necessity for any organization. The prime focus of this study was to investigate the relationship between welfare facilities and operational level employees’ job satisfaction in the apparel industry of Sri Lanka. This study empirically evaluated four independent variables (medical facilities, canteen facilities, loan facilities and housing facilities) and their relationship to the job satisfaction of operational level employees in the apparel industry of Sri Lanka. The sample consists of 100 operational level employees in the apparel industry of Sri Lanka. The data collection was done by using a self-administrated structured questionnaire. The results indicated that medical facilities, canteen facilities, loan facilities and housing facilities variables were positively and significantly correlated with job satisfaction variable. But those relationships were not much strong.Item Factors affecting job satisfaction of class III officers of Sri Lanka administrative service(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Jayasena, S. D. N. S.; Weligamage, S. S.The Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) is the main administrative service of the Sri Lankan Government, with civil servants engaged both in the Central Government as well as in the provincial councils. Purpose of this research was to identify the factors affecting Job Satisfaction of Grade III officers of Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) and to identify the level of satisfaction. Primary Data were gathered using a structured questionnaire and structured interviews. The data were summarized using descriptive statistics. Through correlation and regression analysis the factors affecting Job Satisfaction of Grade III officers of SLAS were identified. Findings revealed that demographic variables and Pay, Promotion, Supervision, Fringe Benefits and Contingent Rewards are the determinants of Job Satisfaction of the target population. Further it was suggested that increasing the Base Pay, introducing a performance based promotion scheme, fair distribution of training opportunities and granting transport facilities will increase the level of Job Satisfaction.Item Impact of job satisfaction on job performance of non-executive employees in hotel industry: with reference To Kalutara district(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Perera, M. D. S. H.; Weerakkody, W. A. S.These days all organizations recognized the organizations can gain competitive advantage in market place only if it has employees who possess positive work related attitudes. Job satisfaction is one of the most important attitudinal factor on job performance .This study was made to measure the impact of job satisfaction on job performance of non-executive employees in hotel industry (star hotels) with regard to Kalutara district , Sri Lanka. On the scenario of continuous discussions on challenges faced by hotel industry in Sri Lanka, human involvement is yet to be considered as a significant organizational factor. There are several human resources glitches in hotel industry. It has made a vast impediment to minimize the effort of the achieving organizational objectives in the hotel industry. The data were collected from a stratified randomly selected sample of 250 non -executive employees in the hotel industry (star hotels) by administrating a structured questionnaire, which consisted of 38 questions/statements with 5 points scale. The data analyses consist of correlation and regression. The findings reveal that, job satisfaction was correlated with job performance of non-executive employees. Also there was an impact of job satisfaction on job performance of non-executive employees. Based on the findings valuable suggestions provided to the managements of hotel industry with regard to Kalutara district Sri Lanka to minimize the existing issues.Item The Nexus between Work-Life Conflict and Job Satisfaction: Evidence from Network and System Integration Industry in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2014) Wijesekare, N.; Weligamage, S.Work life conflict is an inter role conflict that arises due to conflicting roles required by organization and from one’s family. Objective of this study is to investigate the impact of work life conflict on job satisfaction of employees in Network and System Integration industry in Sri Lanka. Data for the study was from 147 employees working in different Network and System Integration organizations of Sri Lanka using structured questionnaire. Correlation analysis was used to find the association between identified variables of the study. Findings revealed that job satisfaction is significantly negatively correlated with Family to Work interference and Stress. However, the correlation of Work to Family Interference and working hours are positive and insignificant which shows that these two variables does not affect the job satisfaction of the employees in Network and System Integration Industry. The findings of the study suggest that work family conflict and job satisfaction becomes an increasingly important concern for organizations when focusing on the issue of developing employees in the changing global and regional scenario. Information Technology organizations should come up with effective and efficient work – life balance policies and programs and foster an organizational culture that supports the use of available policies is also of great importance. This will help to reduce the work – life conflict for employees in Network and System Integration Industry.Item Impact of Employer Branding on Job Satisfaction: with Special Reference to Insurance Company(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2013) Mendis, M.V.S.; Wanigasekera, W.M.S.K.Employer branding is relatively a new terminology for many companies in Sri Lanka, but it is becoming more important to today’s businesses. The prime focus of this study was to investigate the relationship between employer branding and executive level employees’ job satisfaction in AIA Insurance Lanka PLC. Seventy executive level employees were systematically sampled for the study. Employer branding is measured by using three dimensions such as economic value, development value and social value. Data were gathered through standardized questionnaire method and for the purpose of hypothesis testing, correlation and simple regression analysis were used by the researchers. Data were analyzed through Statistical Package for Social Sciences 20.0 version software to find out the relationship between variables. The results of the study suggest that there is significant positive relationship between employer branding and executive level employees’ job satisfaction in AIA Insurance Lanka PLC.
