Item Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Academic Adjustment of First-Year Management Undergraduates of State Universities in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2023) Amarasinghe, A. S.The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of emotional intelligence on academic adjustment of first-year Management undergraduates of State Universities in Sri Lanka. To achieve this purpose, the researcher established three basic questions. Those are to explore the existing level of Emotional Intelligence on Academic Adjustment, relationships between Emotional Intelligence and Academic Adjustment, and the impact of Emotional Intelligence on Academic Adjustment of first-year Management undergraduates of State Universities in Sri Lanka. A structured questionnaire was used as the method of data collection and a sample of 347 first-year management undergraduates in state universities were selected using a stratified sampling method, through Morgan Table. The researcher considered three state universities in Western Province, Sri Lanka: University of Kalaniya, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and University of Colombo. Quantitative research approach was used for this study. The data were analyzed using reliability analysis, validity analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis. The result indicated that Appraisal and Expression of Emotions, Regulation of Emotions, and Utilization of Emotion are in high level among selected respondents. Also, results indicated that emotional intelligence has a strong positive relationship with academic adjustment among first-year undergraduates of state universities in Western Province, Sri Lanka. Further, regression results reveal that Appraisal and Expression of Emotions (0.330), Regulation of Emotions (0.117), and Utilization of Emotion (0.146) significantly impact on Academic Adjustment among first-year management undergraduates of state universities in the western province, of Sri Lanka.Item Online Learning Experience During Covid-19 Pandemic: Empirical Evidence from Management Undergraduates of Private Universities in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2023) Rathnakara, K. A. K. S.In 2020/21, the Covid-19 pandemic impacted the entire planet on several levels. Regardless of their state of development, practically all economies were severely impacted. The education industry was one of the most severely impacted industries by the pandemic. It posed numerous challenges and disruptions in all aspects of educational operations, including the delivery of lectures and the completion of assignments. Working from home was established in most countries, and it was also applied to the education sector. As a result, the primary goal of this study was to evaluate university undergraduates' online learning experiences in Sri Lanka. This research digs deeper into the challenges and benefits of online learning, as well as satisfaction levels and acceptance of online learning as the new normal. According to the data, Management faculty undergraduates at non-state universities received varying levels of technical support from their relevant institutes and used a variety of online learning technologies. The most significant benefit, according to the research, is the ability to work flexible hours. Lack of student participation, lack of face-to-face contacts, internet connectivity, and technological concerns were the most common issues. Furthermore, undergraduates were found to be partially satisfied with online education but to have a higher acceptance of it.Item Association between Emotional Labour and Psychological Well-Being: With Special Reference to Doctors Working at COVID - 19 Treatment Units in Gampaha District, Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2022) Vindya, I. W. S.; Rathnakara, K. A. K. S.In the context of Sri Lanka, the significance of the health industry to the country's GDP is highlighted. Because the country's social health protection and quality health care have an impact on economic growth and development. As a result, the health sector is one of the most important industries in Sri Lanka. This study aimed to examine the effects of emotional labour on the psychological health of outstanding reference doctors employed by Covid 19 treatment facilities in the Gampaha District Sri Lanka . The independent variable was emotional labour, and the dependent variable was psychological well-being. Doctors employed by Covid 19 treatment facilities in the Gampaha district were chosen as the population and simple random sampling method was utilized to select the sample. Questionnaires were used to gather information from the 97 doctors that made up the sample. The doctors' response rate was 100 percent. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0 was used to analyze the data. For univariate analysis, the mean score and standard deviation for each variable were analysed, and the correlation coefficient was employed for bivariate analysis. The impact of the independent varible on the dependent variable was examined using multiple regression. Doctors' emotional labour and psychological health have changed depending on their gender, level of education, experience, employment history, and marital status. The study’s findings indicates that emotional labour has an impact on psychological well-being reference to the surface acting and psychological well-being , deep acting and, genuine acting. According to the Pearson correlation analysis values and regression analysis values surface, deep ,genuine acting with psychological well-being hypotheses were tested. It can be concluded that there is an impact emotional labour on psychological well-being.This paper also makes suggestions for future research, including the need for a more quantitative approach to producing better results and the need to add more statistical analytical tools to the study's currently chosen base with different cultured societies on psychological well-being.Item Assessing Online Teaching Experience during the Covid-19 Pandemic: With Special Reference to the Lecturers Specialized in Management, Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2021) Rathnakara, K. A. K. S.The entire world was terrifically affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020/21 at different levels. However, almost all the industries including tourism, manufacturing, apparel, education and banking, and finance were utterly affected by this situation. The education sector can be recognized as one of the key sectors deleteriously affected by the pandemic as it created a lot of complications in all the spheres of educational operations including delivering lectures, holding examinations, and conducting assignments. Most of the countries introduced the working from the home concept which was also applied to the education sector as well. Hence; the main objective of this research was to assess the online teaching experience of the Management faculty lecturers in Sri Lanka. This study further explores the difficulties and benefits of online teaching experienced by the lecturers, the level of satisfaction and acceptance of online teaching for future purposes. The findings suggest that lecturers were provided different levels of technical support from their relevant institutes and used different combinations of tools for online teaching. The study further revealed that the main advantage was flexible hours, while; lack of student engagement; lack of face-to-face interactions, internet connection, and technical problems were the most common difficulties. Furthermore, it was found that lecturers were partially satisfied with online education but showed higher acceptance of online education in the future.Item Investigation of Performance Management System and its Effectiveness with Special Reference to Garment Factories in Katunayake Export Processing Zone in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2020) Rathnakara, K. A. K. S.; Arachchige, B. J. H.Performance management deals with identifying, measuring and developing performance of individuals, groups and teams and aligning performance with the strategic goals of the organization with the ultimate objective of improving organizational performance. This research was conducted with special reference to large scale garment factories in the Katunayake Export Processing Zone in Sri Lanka. The main objective of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of the performance management system with the implications of a systematic process of managing employee performance. Data were collected from managerial and executive level employees of the selected garment sector organizations. A structured questionnaire developed by the researcher was used to collect data the sample was selected using convenient sampling method. Hypotheses testing was used to complete the research study and Sixty seven participants have responded with a forty two percent response rate. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 21) was utilised as the statistical tool to analyse data. Findings of the research suggested that the effectiveness of the performance management system is at an effective level and the components of the performance management system; planning performance, monitoring performance, reviewing performance, improving performance and managing unsatisfactory performance are positively related with the effectiveness of the performance management system. Furthermore, it was found that monitoring and reviewing performance are the most critical variables which determine the effectiveness of performance management system. In addition to these findings, slight variations between managers and executive employees were found in terms of perception on the same performance management system.
