Item Impact of the Management of Work Environmental Hazards on the Perceived Quality of Occupational Health and Safety among Operational Employees in Construction Industry(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2021) Devadas, U. M.; Wijesooriya, M. A. L. S.The construction industry is one of the most hazardous industries in a country due to the nature of the products and the processes involved. In Sri Lanka, the construction industry plays a major role in the national economy. However, the prevention of such work environmental hazards still needs more attention in the construction field. The field currently reports a high level of accidents on construction sites that are either major or minor. Further, environmental hazards in the construction field in Sri Lanka have not been sufficiently studied empirically. Hence, this study was conducted to assess the work environmental hazards and their impact on the perceived quality of occupational health and safety among construction employees in the construction industry in Sri Lanka. The researchers used the quantitative survey method for this study on a sample of 154 construction employees, randomly selected. Correlation and regression analysis were utilized as the data analysis methods. The findings revealed that the management of environmental hazards have a significant positive impact on operational employees’ perception of the quality of health and safety. The authors highlighted possible behavioral issues of employees such as retention issues if managers are not seriously committed towards improving the quality of their health and safety management practices. Towards this end, among other directions, the researchers highlighted implications to policy, practice, and research with suggestions for empowering HRM in the industry, following best practices, and pursuing innovative and varied research qualitatively and quantitative to study the phenomena in a more context based manner.Item Impact of Welfare Facilities on Job Satisfaction of the Non- Executive Employees of XYZ Company in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2021) Shiroma, J. A. N.; Jayatilake, L. V. K.The aim of this study is assessing the effect of welfare facilities to job satisfaction of the Non-Executives Level employees in XYZ Company in Sri Lanka. Their job satisfaction is depended on many factors. Among the factor’s welfare facilities are important. This study as a part of investigates the effect of welfare facilities on the job satisfaction of Non-Executives Level employees in XYZ Company in Sri Lanka. The sample consists of 100 Non-Executive Level in the XYZ Company of Sri Lanka. The data collection was done by using a self-administrated structure questionnaire. The results indicated that medical facilities, canteen facilities, loan facilities and housing facilities variables were positively and significantly correlated with job satisfaction variable. This study provides good evidence to take idea on their effectiveness of welfare facilities and take idea about whether employees are satisfied or not. Furthermore, the study of job satisfaction level of Non-Executives Level employees in XYZ Company the result will become the good measurement to an organization and make awareness about providing, enhancing welfare facilities to their employees. According to some of the previous studies, top level management pay little attention on this area of providing welfare facilities. That may be happened, due to unawareness about advantages of providing welfare facilities to employees. So, this study focused to find out impact of welfare facilities on job satisfaction and nature of perception of Non-Executives employees about their welfare facilities. This is an attempt to bridge the gap in the Sri Lankan empirical knowledge of the empirical factors of the job satisfaction of Non- Executives employees from their perception. Findings of this study can be used to enhance the job satisfaction employees who are working in other industries.Item HR Department’s Compelling New Role in Workplace Transition in Response to the Coronavirus(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2021) Peiris, J. M. P. M.COVID-19 is a global health crisis that started in Wuhan, China, and spread rapidly around the world. This pandemic has resulted in restrictions on movement and the temporary closure of workplace premises, business organizations made provisions for implementing remote work. The objective of this conceptual study is to investigate, HR department’s compelling new role in the workplace transition, in response to the covid 19 post-pandemic situations within the Sri Lankan context. The conceptualization was made upon, expanding the role of the HR department in the workplace. A comprehensive literature review was used as the method for this study to achieve the aforementioned study objective. Based on the literature, this study identified that previously HR departments focused on a day in life tasks, administering benefits, and drive to sustainable competitiveness. However, HR teams are now in support of their company's crisis management efforts. Based on the study it has identified, the HR department’s compelling new role in four areas. Developing mental and physical wellbeing of employees, improving the efficiency of remote work, developing employee engagement through effective communication, and providing equal access to opportunities and resources. The practical implications are attempting to promote the HR department’s expanding role in demonstrating a way for the positive results associated with workplace transition in the covid-19 post-pandemic situation.Item Assessing Online Teaching Experience during the Covid-19 Pandemic: With Special Reference to the Lecturers Specialized in Management, Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2021) Rathnakara, K. A. K. S.The entire world was terrifically affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020/21 at different levels. However, almost all the industries including tourism, manufacturing, apparel, education and banking, and finance were utterly affected by this situation. The education sector can be recognized as one of the key sectors deleteriously affected by the pandemic as it created a lot of complications in all the spheres of educational operations including delivering lectures, holding examinations, and conducting assignments. Most of the countries introduced the working from the home concept which was also applied to the education sector as well. Hence; the main objective of this research was to assess the online teaching experience of the Management faculty lecturers in Sri Lanka. This study further explores the difficulties and benefits of online teaching experienced by the lecturers, the level of satisfaction and acceptance of online teaching for future purposes. The findings suggest that lecturers were provided different levels of technical support from their relevant institutes and used different combinations of tools for online teaching. The study further revealed that the main advantage was flexible hours, while; lack of student engagement; lack of face-to-face interactions, internet connection, and technical problems were the most common difficulties. Furthermore, it was found that lecturers were partially satisfied with online education but showed higher acceptance of online education in the future.Item Determinants of Human Resource Informatıon System Usage: Evıdence from Ceylon Electrıcıty Board (CEB), Srı Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2021) Kumara, W. H. S.; Galhena, B. L.This study examines the determinants of HRIS usage in Sri Lanka with special reference to Ceylon Electrıcıty Board. Based on extant literature, five independent variables nemaly Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived Usefulness, IT Expertise, Subjective Norm, Top Management Support were identified. Survey questionnaires were distributed among randomly selected employees of Ceylon Electricity Board in Southern Province and 140 complete responses were gathered. Multiple Regression analysis was run to test the impat of five independent variables on the usage of HRIS in CEB . According to the research findings top management support is the most significant factor affecting usage of HRIS application. Moreover, it was also identified that perceived usefulness, IT expertise and subjective norms are significant drivers of HRIS usage. These findings may be beneficial to the employees, policy makers and public sector organizations to improve the level of HRIS usage although more research is needed to clearly specify the determinants of HRIS usage in Sri Lanka.Item Impact of Flex-Work on Employee Performance: Study of Executive-Level Employees in IT Industry of Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2021) Nayanathara, S. W. A. W. M. D.; Karunarathne, R. A. I. C.Employee performance plays an important role in every organization. In the modern business world, it is important to examine the effect of flex-work on employee performance as it is a widely discussed topic during the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Although, scholars have already examined the effect of flex-work practices and their outcomes, the results are inconsistent. Thus, the current study aimed to examine the lacuna in literature, which is impact of flex-work on employee performance. To attain this purpose, researchers collected data from 169 executive-level employees in three IT firms in Western Province, Sri Lanka. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression with the aid of SPSS. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant impact of flex-work on employee performance, where employee performance will increase with the improvements in flex-work. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
