Item The Impact of Glass Ceiling on Women Career Development(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Fernando, A.T.P.,; Welmilla, I.The prime purpose of the current study was to assess the impact of glass ceiling on women career development, focusing the problem of underrepresentation of women in upper management positions in the context of public sector banking industry in Sri Lanka with special reference to Colombo district banking organizations. The current study was concluded as a cross-sectional field study among a sample of 110 female banking professionals from the selected public sector banking organization in Colombo district, Sri Lanka, using a convenience sample technique. Primary data was collected through a standard questionnaire. Findings revealed that there is a significant impact of individual factors, family factors, organizational factors, and cultural factors on women’s career development. Based on the statistical evidence, it is confirmed that the officer grade female employees who work in public sector banking organizations within Colombo District are experienced glass ceiling factors and it is suggested to remove the glass ceiling factors from banking organizations to increase women career development.Item The Impact of Green HR Practices on Employee Satisfaction: Evidence from XYZ Bank in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Dushanthika, W.G.S.,; Welmilla, I.Green human resource management is an emerging concept in recent years. In Sri Lanka, banks were quickly captured this concept. Because they are service providers for the whole nation in Sri Lanka. Main purpose of the study is to find out whether there is a significant impact of green human resource practices on employee satisfaction of executive-level employees in XYZ Bank, Sri Lanka. The study was followed quantitative and cross-sectional survey design. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire. Simple random sampling technique was applied to select the sample, and the final sample consisted of 93 executive-level employees in XYZ Bank. Correlation and regression analysis were performed on the gathered data in order to test hypotheses of the study. Findings showed that there is a significant impact of green human resource practices on employee satisfaction of executive-level employees in XYZ Bank.Item The Impact of Big Five Personality Factors on Employee’s Career Success: Evidence from A Leading Apparel Firm in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Kariyawasam, J.D.; Welmilla, I.Every employee dreams of having a highly successful career that they enjoy, and that provides them with the lifestyle they desire. Therefore, today’s most of the employees are more concerned about their career and the success of career. The objective of this research is to examine the impact of big five personality factors on employee’s career success. Career success is the dependent variable which was taken to explore the objective (age, job level, and income level) and subjective (career satisfaction) elements. The independent variable mainly consists of extraversion, conscientiousness, openness to experience, neuroticism, and agreeableness, which have been obtained by the big five model. Accordingly, one leading apparel firm was selected to conduct this quantitative study. A questionnaire survey was used to gather data from staff-level employees, and 120 responses were obtained. The correlation and regression analysis were used in analyzing data through SPSS Version 23.0. The findings of the study indicated that the conscientiousness personality factor was found a higher level of favorable experience in the majority of the staff level employees when compared with the other four personality factors. Thus, conscientiousness and openness to experience were moderately correlated with subjective career success. As the results of other personality factors also have a significant positive relationship with career success with different levels. However, neuroticism is negatively correlated with objective career success, and extraversion was not supported to objective career success. The final output of the study has proven that there is an impact on both objective and subjective career success by big five factors to a certain extent.Item The Impact of Romance at Work on Employee Retention Intention(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Dinusha, A.E.S.,; Welmilla, I.The prime purpose of this study was to assess the impact of romance at work on employee retention intention of call center agents. A challenge that exists in most call center organization is the extreme employee turnover rates. Call center organizations are characterized by high technology-based work, high work pressure and work overloaded which lead to stress and burn out, absenteeism and performance problems. Therefore, it is essential to find ways for retaining their staff. The study examines the impact of romance at work on employee retention intention of call center agents. The quantitative research approach has been applied. A standard questionnaire was used to gather data from the call centers in Sri Lanka. The sample was selected through the purposive sampling method, and the 68 responses were obtained. The correlation and regression analysis were used for analyzing the data. The finding reflects that there is a significant strong positive relationship between romance at work and employee retention intention. The results suggested that the workplace is not a mere place to come and work, but it is a complex societal system in which people try to make close relationships.Item Entrepreneurial Intention of the Undergraduates of State Universities in Sri Lanka: A Study with Special Reference to Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Dilrukshi, D.W.L.,; Welmilla, I.Entrepreneurship is seen as wealth creation activity among economies in many countries. Currently all fifteen universities in Sri Lanka offer entrepreneurial education for the undergraduates, especially for the Commerce and Management undergraduates. But many researchers found that the entrepreneurial intention of the undergraduates was at the weakest level. Hence, the main objective of this study was to identify the factors affecting the entrepreneurial intention of the undergraduates. Accordingly, the impact of fear of failure, network availability, entrepreneurial experience and family support on entrepreneurial intention was tested. The study was quantitative and cross-sectional survey design was followed. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire. Stratified random sampling technique was applied to select the sample, and the final sample consisted of 151 undergraduates from the Faculty of Commerce and Management studies in University of Kelaniya. Findings of the correlation revealed that all four factors have a statistically significant association with entrepreneurial intention. However, the fear of failure has a negative relationship with the Entrepreneurial intention of undergraduates. The regression analysis results indicate that there is a statistically significant impact of four variables on the entrepreneurial intention of undergraduates. However, the fear of failure has a negative impact on entrepreneurial intention. The study results will be useful for numerous parties.Item The Impact of Kaizen Implementation on Employee Job Satisfaction: A Study of DPL Premier Gloves Limited at Biyagama(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) De Silva, S.V.M.,; Welmilla, I.Human Resource Management becomes a significant and important management area, and it has many positive impacts on the employees’ behavior. This study is aimed to examine the Impact of Kaizen events implementation on employee’s job satisfaction of manual grade employees in DPL Premier Gloves Ltd at Biyagama. This study was cross-sectional, and manual grade employees were the unit of analysis. The population was all Manual grade employees in DPL Premier Gloves Ltd at Biyagama, and 60 manual grade employees were selected randomly for this study. A structured questionnaire was used to collect the primary data and univariate and bivariate analyses were applied to analyze the data. Study results revealed that there is a positive impact of implementation workplace kaizen events on employee job satisfaction.
