Item The Impact of Person-Job Fit on Employees Job Performance: A Study of Employees of Public Banks in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Batuwangala, K.V.,; Padmasiri, M.K.D.The main purpose of this study was to identify the impact of person-job fit on employee job performance. Further, this study expected to identify the relationship between person-job fit and job performance, to measure the level of the job performance of the Sri Lankan public banking sector employees, to measure the level of person-job fit of the Sri Lankan public banking sector employees, and to measure the levels of job performance according to gender. This study adopted a cross sectional survey design. Data were collected using a standard questionnaire from employees who are working in People’s Bank and Regional Development Bank. Convenience sampling technique was used to select the sample of 203 assistant and managerial level employees. Collected data was analyzed using- Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). It was found that there is an impact of person-job fit on employee performance and also there is a strong positive relationship between person-job fit and job performance. Based on the findings researcher recommended that when employees are recruiting to the banking industry it is important to ensure the person-job in terms of Need-Supply Fit, Demand-Ability Fit to get maximum performance from them.Item The Impact of Health Behavior on Academic Performance: A Study of Management Undergraduates of State Universities in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Nirmal, G.G.R.,; Padmasiri, M.K.D.Even though many determinants of academic performance could be found in the extant literature, health behavior is little investigated and the effects on undergraduates’ academic performance in Sri Lankan context has not been examined yet. Bridging the gap in the context, the current study assessed the impact of health behavior on the academic performance of management undergraduates of state universities in Sri Lanka. The current study was conducted as a cross-sectional field study among a sample of 304 undergraduates selected via the convenience sampling technique from two leading state universities in Sri Lanka. The collected data was analyzed with the aid of SPSS by using correlation, regression, and descriptive statistics. It is found that there is a significant impact of health behavior on academic performance, and further there is a strong positive relationship between health behavior and academic performance. Building on the findings, it is recommended for universities and high education institutions to promote healthy practices, link healthy practices to academic disciplines of all the faculties, and enhance sports & other extracurricular activities of undergraduates, which in turn will strengthen the healthy behavior leading towards the higher academic performance of undergraduates.Item The Impact of Motivation Factors and Hygiene Factors on Employee Retention Intention: A Study of Operational Level Employees in ABC Company (Pvt) Limited(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Siriwardana, M.A.M.T.G.,; Padmasiri, M.K.D.Employee retention has become a serious and perplexing problem in the Sri Lankan apparel industry. Since employees are the key contributors who bring an organization to the upper level, high employee turnover ratio, or flyaway of talented employees is a great loss to apparel organization. The purpose of the study is to identify the impact of motivation factors and hygiene factors on employee retention in ABC Company (Pvt) Ltd. Further objectives to be achieved are, to find the relationship between motivation factors on employee retention and to find the relationship between hygiene factors on employee retention. The questionnaire was distributed among the sample of 93 individuals, and the sample was selected using the convenience sampling technique. The collected data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). According to multiple regression analyses, there is a significant impact of motivation factors on employee retention and hygiene factors are not shown a significant impact on employee retention. Based on the findings, the researcher suggests to motivate employees by providing facilities and conditions to ensure the feeling of achievement, advancement, work itself, recognition and growth which represent motivation factors and the Company needs to focus on motivation factors than hygiene factors to retain their employees.Item The Impact of Employee Involvement on Employee Performance: A Study with Special Reference to Managerial Employees of Workwear Lanka (Pvt) Limited(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Ekanayake, E.M.Y.M.,; Padmasiri, M.K.D.The highly competitive environment needs a different approach to manage employees and various studies have shown that employee involvement is a critical component of human resources management. However, there have fewer studies that attempt to see the impact of the employee involvement endeavors on the performance of employees in Sri Lanka. Thus, the purpose of this study is to examine the impact of employee involvement on employee performance of a selected company by examining the performance level of the managerial level employees and the involvement practices used by the company in Sri Lanka. This research used the Classic Motivation Theory to explain the theoretical understanding of the effect of employee involvement practices towards employee performance. This study adopted a cross-sectional survey where data was collected using a standard questionnaire. The sample consisted of one hundred and four respondents of the selected company and sample was selected through the stratified sampling method. Collected data were analyzed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) and Excel. It was found that there is a significant impact of employee involvement on employee performance and a positive relationship between employee involvement and employee performance. Further, management by objectives identified as the most influential dimension within the employee involvement on employee performance. The study recommends implementing practices related to management by objectives and representative participation to ensure employee involvement and through that enhance employee performance.Item The Impact of Personal Resources on Work Engagement in Executive Level Employees: A Study with Special Reference Hela Clothing (Pvt) Limited(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Wijesooriya, U.H.J.,; Mahalekamge, W.G.S.Work engagement is one of most popular concepts that affect all organizations. All HR Managers and policymakers concerned about the work engagement concept. The effect of personal resources on work engagement in Sri Lankan context has not been investigated yet. Moreover, the gap in the context, the current study determined to examine the impact of the personal resources on employee work engagement in apparel sector in Sri Lanka. Based on that Hela clothing apparel company was selected to conduct this research. As the data for this study was collected at a single point in time, the study was cross-sectional in time horizon. Measures of the study had possessed sufficient validity and reliability. Sample for this study was selected from the Hela clothing apparel company. The structured questionnaire was used to collect data and the sample consisted of 120 executive-level employees in Hela clothing apparel company. Therefore, the unit of analysis was individual. The data were analyzed through SPSS 23 version. According to the results it reveals that there is a strong positive relationship between self-efficacy and work engagement, a strong positive relationship between optimism and work engagement, and there is an impact of personal resources such as self-efficacy and optimism on work engagement.Item The Impact of Perceived Recruitment Practices on Employee Retention Intention: A Study with Special Reference to Hirdaramani (Pvt) Limited, Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Wijayanga, J.N.P., .; Mahalekamge, W.G.SThe main focus of this study is to identify the impact of perceived recruitment practices on employee retention in Hirdaramani-Agalawatta. This study is in deductive approach. The data were collected randomly selected sample of 100 executive level using a structured questionnaire. Data was analyzed using SPSS (23.0 Versions). The results revealed that there is a significant positive relationship between recruitment practices and employee retention in Hirdaramani-Agalawatta Organization. Further, it revealed that there is a positive relationship between recruitment strategies and employee retention, recruitment policies and employee retention and role of the HR department and employee retention. Moreover, the study found that there is a significant impact of recruitment practices on employee retention in Hirdaramani-Agalawatta organization and it is essential for the HR department in the apparel firms to have much concern on these recruitment practices and follow them effectively in order to improve the employee retention.Item The Impact of Perception of HRIS Utilization on Employee Performance (With Special Reference to the Hirdaramani (Pvt) Limited)(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Wickramasinghe, P.C.,; Mahalekamge, W.G.S.Employee performance is a vital element to any organization for the success of the organization and its overall performance. Many determinants of employee performance are found in the existing literature. However, the effect of perception of HRIS utilization on employee performance in Sri Lankan context has not been investigated yet. Considering the gap in the context, the current study determined to investigate the impact of the perception of HRIS utilization on employee performance in the apparel sector in Sri Lanka. Based on that purpose, Hirdaramani - Agalawaththa Plant was selected to conduct this study. The independent variable of the study was the perception of HRIS utilization which has two dimensions: HRIS Logistics and HRIS Operations. Three hypotheses were formulated using the deductive approach. The study was cross-sectional in time horizon. Measures of the study had possessed sufficient validity and reliability. Sample for this study was selected from the Hirdaramani - Agalawaththa Plant. The structured questionnaire used to collect data and the sample consisted of 108 executive and assistant employees. Therefore, the unit of analysis was individual. The data were analyzed through SPSS 23 version. The results of the study revealed that there was a weak positive relationship between perception of HRIS utilization and employee performance, weak positive relationship between perception of HRIS logistics and employee performance and weak positive relationship between HRIS operations and employee performance. Moreover, there is an impact of perception of HRIS utilization on employee performance, HRIS logistics on employee performance and HRIS operations on employee performance.Item The Relationship between Pressure on Employees’ Social Life and Retention Intension: Moderating Effects of Age Group and Gender(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Weerawardhana, R.D.L.M.,; Weerasinghe, T.D.In a modern organizational culture employee pressure on social life is a silent area that affects to major decisions of an employee. Many researchers investigated social life pressure in various contexts other than employment. Hence, the major aim of the present study is to investigate the relational interaction among pressure on social life of employees’ and retention intension with the moderating effects of age and gender. Further, specifically to provide the directions to the organization about addressing issues of employees’ social life. The primary data was collected from 160 employees working in public and private sector organizations in western province, Sri Lanka at the convenience of the researcher by using a standard questionnaire that was distributed via printed on paper. The valid data was analyzed with the support of SPSS drawing correlation, regression and descriptive statistics. It is found that positive moderate relationship between pressure on employees’ social life and retention intension. Moreover, age and gender significantly controls the impact of pressure on employees’ social life on retention intension. The present study would provide the directions to HR policy makers, employees’, supervisors and future researchers.Item The Impact of Leadership Style of Superior on Job Performance of Subordinates: A Study of the Employees of Geological Survey & Mines Bureau(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Weerasinghe, N.A.W.D.,; Weerasinghe, T.D.Even though there are many evidences about how leadership style effect on employee performance in the world, is reported the government sector of Sri Lanka context is little investigated about this. The main objective of current study was to assess the effect of superior leadership style (transformational, transactional and laissez-faire) on job performance of employees in Geological Survey & Mines Bureau. Which is a leading government organization. The study was quantitative, and a cross-sectional survey design was followed. The primary data was collected through a standard questionnaire. Simple random sampling technique was applied to select the sample, and the final sample consisted of 119 employees working in Geological Survey & Mines Bureau of Sri Lanka. The collected data were analyzed with the support of SPSS. Descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were used for data analysis. Pearson correlation and regression analysis were used to assess both relationships and effects as per the hypotheses of the study. It is found that transformational, transactional and laissez fair leadership styles positively correlated with employees' job performance. Moreover, result shows that, there is a significant impact of transformational, transactional and laissez fair leadership styles on employees' job performance. According to the finding, with the combinations of the leadership styles the leaders can enhance employees' performance of the organization. Therefore, it is recommended that mix of leadership styles is most suitable than leadership styles act as separately.Item The Nexus between Work-Family Conflicts and Organizational Citizenship Behavior: A Study of Executive Level Employees in the Banking Sector of Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2019) Wariyapperuma, W.A.A.I.P.,; Weerasinghe, T.D.The purpose of this study was to assess the nexus between work family conflict and organizational citizenship behavior in the banking sector in Sri Lanka. This study is carried out as a quantitative explanatory research work. Further, the sample is selected randomly and used simple random sampling technique. This is a cross-industry descriptive research & standard questionnaire was used to collect primary data through a survey. Questionnaires are distributed to a sample of 185 of executive employees who are currently working in banks. To analyze received questionnaires data, SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) was used. To interpret data analyzed and to obtain the result graphical charts, descriptive statistical techniques such as mean, mode, standard deviation and also histograms, correlation and coefficient, simple regression analysis and residual analysis were used. To test the relationship between variables Pearson correlation technique analysis was used. Simple regression analysis was used to identify the degree of the impact of the independent variable on dependent variable was analyzed by using R square value. And also, it was found to be that there is a significant moderate negative relationship between work family conflict and organizational citizenship behavior. Courtesy and Sportsmanship are the dimensions of dependent variable and they were only significant and others were insignificant with the work family conflict. The present study would provide the direction to HR policy makers, employees, supervisors and to future researchers.
