    Emotional Works and Turnover Intention of Sri Lankan Nurses

    In the quest for the concept of emotional work, it is apparent that comparing to the international context there are much less research done in Sri Lanka. Thus, by filling the existing gap this study analyses the relationship between emotional works and turnover intention of nurses. The problem of the study was to find out whether there is a relationship exists between emotional works and turnover intention of nurses in Sri Lanka. This study applied quantitative and a cross-sectional survey design where data was collected through a structured questionnaire. Random sampling technique was applied to select the sample of 170 nurses in a selected district. Findings revealed that emotional works; surface acting and deep acting are significantly positively related to turnover intention. Meanwhile, findings verified that as a whole there is a significant positive relationship between emotional works and turnover intention of nurses in Sri Lanka. The present study updates the current literature in the arena of emotional works.

    An Exploratory Examination of Interactions between Leadership Behavior and Person-Organization Value Fit on Employee Performance

    Many studies have shown that person-organization value fit effect on employee commitment, job satisfaction, involvement, communication, cooperation, and profit gains in organizations. Leader behavior is another important factor effects on employee performance in organizations. However research investigated on interaction effect of leader behavior and person-organization value fit on employee performance is mostly absent in literature. This study examined the effect of leader behavior, person-organization value fit and their interactions on employee commitment, participation for group decision making and trust in their leaders in Sri Lankan organizations. A questionnaire survey was undertaken to evaluate employees’ ratings on these variables. Hypotheses testing were done by using Analysis of Covariates. Results revealed that both leader behavior and person-organization value fit are powerful predictors for employee performance. Theoretical and practical implications of these results and directions for future research are discussed.

    The Relationship between Capital Structure and Ownership Structure: Evidence from Listed Companies in Hotel and Manufacturing Sectors in Sri Lanka

    This study examines the relationship between capital structure and ownership structure for a sample of thirty-eight listed companies in the hotel and manufacturing sectors in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) in Sri Lanka over the period of 2011-2015. All the secondary data were collected from audited annual reports of each company and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis. Mainly the ownership structure is measured using individual, managerial, institutional and share ownership concentration. Furthermore, the impact of Profit and Tangibility on capital structure is also examined in the study. The results revealed the managerial ownership and ownership concentration have significant influence on the capital structure. In the comparison of hotel sector and manufacturing sector listed companies in CSE we can identify that there is higher impact of ownership structure on capital structure in manufacturing sector compared to the hotel sector.

    Do Supply Chain Management Practices Contribute Firm Competitiveness? A Study based on Medium Scale Entrepreneurial Firms in Sri Lanka

    It is evident that supply chain management (SCM) practices are widely practiced by large scale and established business organizations as benchmark. Not only the large firms but also the small and medium scale businesses are required to follow these practices to achieve the growth. Further, present business environment is very competitive and organizations should face this as a challenge. This study is undertaken to empirically investigate the impact of supply chain management on competitiveness. Sample consists of 327 production managers of medium scale entrepreneurial firms (manufacturing sector) in Colombo district. The analyzed data supports the hypotheses revealing that higher the level of involvement in SCM practices higher the competitiveness. Further, it is found that except level of information quality and lean practices, other practices of SCM (Strategic partnership with suppliers, customer relationship, level of information sharing and internal supply chain process are significant factors that affect firm competitiveness.

    The Forensic Accounting in Sri Lanka “Perception of Professional Accountants”

    The forensic accounting has been molded and shaped by many aspects including the economy, society, legislation and corporate failures arose all over the world time to time. Over the last few years, investigations on financial crimes and corruptions were given an immense attention in Sri Lanka. The current study investigates the perceived opinions of accounting professionals on important skills need to be developed by a forensic accountant, factors that help to develop forensic accounting practice and understanding the different roles of auditor and forensic accountant. Structured questionnaire was used to gather data from 30 professional accountants representing 20 in public practice and 10 in business and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the findings. The study revealed that the professional accountants are on the view that possess with multidisciplinary skills is paramount importance to perform as a forensic accountant. Further it was noted that the awareness on the different roles of auditor and forensic accountant is at the average level among the professionals and they are on the opinion that the government should play a vital role by providing statutory empowerment to uplift the discipline of forensic accounting in Sri Lanka.
