Item Issues Faced by the Undergraduates when Using University Libraries in Sri Lanka: a Study based on Kelaniya, Jayewardenepura, and Colombo Universities(3rd International Conference on Library and Information Management, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Senani, R. A.Information in today’s society occupies an important place. Information has become one of the basic needs of everybody in the society. In such a society, information takes the lead in every spheres. A large amount of information flow and outdate anywhere in the world in a matter of seconds. Libraries and information centres are the places where collection, organization and the dissemination of such information. The University is in the forefront of various studies, education, research, innovation and generation of new methods and tools. Accordingly, the Sri Lankan University system occupies a special place. The library occupies an important place in the university education system. Library is the heart of university education. It has become a modern accepted theory that the university library is the heart of any university. Education, Research, Knowledge, Preservation and Publication are the primary functions of a university. The principal objective of this study is to identify the problems and issues faced by the undergraduate readers when using university libraries. The survey method is used as the study method. The study population is the undergraduates studying in universities in Sri Lanka 150 undergraduates in three universities are selected as the sample among all universities. Three university libraries are University of Kelaniya, Jayewardenepura and Colombo. It is expected that the sample will be selected to represent the undergraduates in Art Faculties. About 50 undergraduates are selected from one university. A systematic questionnaire will be prepared in relation to the objectives of the study and primary data will be collected. The secondary data will be collected through written sources, such as research reports, journals, statistical records an online sources. It is intended to analyse primary data using quantitative and qualitative techniques. Various statistical methods are intended to use for better visualization of the results and the findings.Item Role and the Contribution of Advisory Committee of Public Libraries in Sri Lanka: a Study based on Selected Public Libraries in Matara District(3rd International Conference on Library and Information Management, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Sandamali, W.M.A.Public libraries make a significant contribution for producing intelligent citizens who are enriched by knowledge. The public library is the only institution which provides free services to all sections of the society irrespective of age, religion and religion. In order to preserve its democratic quality, a public library needs to be properly organized. The various committees of a library have different roles and responsibilities to play. Advisory committee or Library Committee which have a strong impact on the subject and some library committees have a good reputation and make substantial contribution to the society. The Library Advisory committee has a tremendous contribution to help libraries and to achieve people’s aspiration with a clear direction for achieving their goals. The purpose of this consultative committee is to study the impact of library development on public library work. The research method used for this study is the survey method. Among all public libraries in Matara district, six public libraries which comprised of library advisor committees use as the sample. The primary data will be collected using questionnaires and interviews. Analysed data will be presented using tables, charts and diagrams with due interpretations.Item Disaster Management in Libraries: a Study based on the Museum Library of Sri Lanka(3rd International Conference on Library and Information Management, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Amarasooriya, Y.W.N.D.As far as human history is concerned, disasters have been occurred simultaneously and the libraries evolved in the society faced the same disaster issues that have been damaged to intellectual resources owing to the fact. Although disaster management plans have been prepared in collaboration with disaster management experts in many countries around the world to prevent and respond to such incidents, libraries in Sri Lanka are still not satisfied with disaster management's interest, contribution and the workload. The main objective of this study is to identify the physical resources and human resources which are vulnerable for disasters of the Museum Library of Sri Lanka and disaster management activities and to present a suitable disaster management plan. Other objectives of this study are to investigate why the management of the institute was not interested in developing a disaster management plan and to educate the library professionals on disaster management. The Museum Library of Sri Lanka is used as the sample. Techniques like the observation and interviews are used to gather primary data for the research. Data analysis is carried out using the Excel software. A disaster management plan can be proposed for the libraries to face any challenge and to prevent disasters. In that plan, preventing the disasters, main preparedness, responding, and reconciling are the components of such a plan. This research was conducted, based on the research questions on how public libraries face any disasters and how they conserve and preserve their collections and do they have proper disaster management plan for their libraries, Throughout the research findings, it is crystal clear that any library does not have such kind of disaster plan, and lack of knowledge and weakness in management mainly caused the extinguishment of the libraries. This research has presented a proper disaster management plan based on the research results
