Item Collaboration Process between the Department of Library and Information Science and the Main Library: a Case Study based on University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka(3rd International Conference on Library and Information Management, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Weerasooriya, W.W.R.W.M.C.S.K.Collaboration is the process which any organization in society can engage based on mutually agreed policies and practices with any other organization or group of organizations. Without a proper collaboration with other allied bodies and the profession of Library and Information Science (LIS), the Department of Library and Information Science (DLIS), University of Kelaniya is unlikely to keep up with these developments and deliver a good education and service in line with the international standards of teaching, research and information management. As a very good example, the establishment of DLISs in the main libraries in certain Indian university can be demonstrated. Professor Ranganathan was the creator of this concept. In that situation, building a good collaboration is very valuable for both the DLIS and with other related institutions specially the Main Library, University of Kelaniya. According to these situations the principle purpose of this paper is to study the collaboration process between the DLIS and the Main Library University of Kelaniya. The other objective are to explore what are the collaborative activities conducted by both institutes, to identify additional collaborative activities they can start, to examine what are the barriers for collaboration and to explore how such collaborative activities would impact for student academic and moral success. Method adopted is a case study followed by mixed research approach hence primary qualitative and quantitative data will be collected conducting interviews with both academic staff at the DLIS and the Main Library, of University of Kelaniya library. Focus group discussion method will also be used for further collecting data and information related to study. Secondary sources like DLIS and the Main Library records and reports will be given much impact for the study when secondary data collection. Results, findings and conclusions will be used for effective functioning of the collaboration between DLIS and Main Library.Item Higher Education Scenarios, New Media and Connecting With Modern Researchers: Issues and Challenges for Indian Academic Libraries(3rd International Conference on Library and Information Management, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Rao, K.S.; Aravind, S.At present users are empowered with an unbelievable amount of information, allowing them to thoroughly research their requirements before contacting a library. Today libraries are experimenting on with how to market library services and information products through established and emerging online platforms. Emerging citizen journalism and new media information marketing encompasses different mediums, including display advertising, content marketing, mobile apps and social media promotions. The crucial objective of this new strategy is how best libraries can reach their users, service impact and attracting users to library brand. Even though libraries are pro-actively engulfing these new online platforms in several areas of library such as library communications, marketing of information, brand creation, impact analysis etc., there are several other untouched areas which need to be tested and tried to exploit full potential of new media.Item User Perception of E-Resources Provided by the Kelaniya University Library: a Case Study(3rd International Conference on Library and Information Management, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Perera, W.P.G.L.; Suraweera, S.A.D.H.N.This paper aims to identify user perception of the e-resources provided by the University of Kelaniya library with the responses of two user categories. They are students and the academic staff of the university. The study was conducted as a web-based survey method for the academic staff and manual data collection method for the students. The sampling method used for this study is stratified random sampling method to select students and academic staff members from the population. This study has considered participant from five faculties. This is on user perception of e-resources provided by the library. E-resource acquisitions have increased with relating to the users’ demand in academic libraries. That is important for an academic library to acquire and arrange e-resource. Compare to present and past learning styles, e-resources have a major role in the academic process. The university libraries are the main learning resource provider of the university. They have to have the capacity to identify relevant information sources both versions in physical and electronic. This has covered ten parts mainly under the topic of E-resources. They are Arrangements for existing learning resources to support e-learning, New acquisitions to support the e-learning, Available databases related to the various subjects taught at your university, Digital library to support learning and teaching by sharing experts' research experiences and publications, Searching and evaluation facilities through the library website, Electronic resource access and sharing (online), Evaluation of e-resource facilities through the faculty CAL, Access for the university subscribed e-journals, e-books, databases and other course materials, both within and outside the university premises, the self-learning supportive videos / PPT and guidelines provided by the library, the preservation of the electronic resource, and provision to access digitized archives at your libraryItem Institutional Library Websites Affiliated to National Universities in Sri Lanka: a Content Analysis(3rd International Conference on Library and Information Management, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Attanayake, G.The main objectives of this study are to evaluate the content of websites in institutional libraries affiliated to national universities in Sri Lanka and identify the shortcomings of library websites. A total of nine libraries were selected for the study but three institutions were rejected due to non-availability of separate library websites. Observation was the primary data collection method and a checklist was designed to collect data. The study mainly corresponds to four categories; Library Management, Library Services, Resources and Other information. Five items were included under the segment of library management. All of the selected libraries were provided the introduction to their libraries opening hours, staff information and contact information. Eight items were considered with regard to library services. Three institutes totally neglected to include their library services to their sites. Four items were located under the segment of library resources and PGIM have completed all four items in check-list. Results of the study showed that out of twenty items, none of the libraries hit all the items in the check-list. The findings of this study revealed that the institutional library websites affiliated to universities in Sri Lanka have not setup at satisfactory level
