Item The Role of Women Entrepreneurs in Establishing a Sustainable Development in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2013) Ambepitiya, K.R.Woman has become a significant role in the economic development of any country. They contribute and support the economy extensively in different ways of being employed in different sectors. There are many women running successful businesses and some of them are very successful with entrepreneurial skills. It is a known fact that now many successful and world’s enormous enterprises are owned and run by women. Many of them are actual or potential owners of trademarks, service marks, trade name as well as of industrial designs, patents and copyright. In developing countries some women are running small enterprises and many cooperatives that are proving so successful. Women entrepreneurs in both developed and developing countries are, socially powerful in education and making a positive impact to the society. It is important to study how women in business and their skills can be utilized in order to achieve a sustainable economy for Sri Lanka. The objectives of this study have scattered in the study of women entrepreneurs to a sustainable economy, social system, and ecology. A descriptive research methodology is used for this study and administered to a selected sample from a specific population included with women in businesses and executives who are from private and public sector offices. The study consists of six month duration which uses a questionnaire as the survey instrument. Using the survey, it has resulted significantly the women entrepreneurs can be positioned to play an important role in promoting sustainable practices in economics, social system and ecology, to result a sustainable development. The researcher concludes the study by observing the positive effect on the economy and the development, the Women entrepreneurship is a key to the developing world to promote sustainable practices in business.Item Impact of Employer Branding on Job Satisfaction: with Special Reference to Insurance Company(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2013) Mendis, M.V.S.; Wanigasekera, W.M.S.K.Employer branding is relatively a new terminology for many companies in Sri Lanka, but it is becoming more important to today’s businesses. The prime focus of this study was to investigate the relationship between employer branding and executive level employees’ job satisfaction in AIA Insurance Lanka PLC. Seventy executive level employees were systematically sampled for the study. Employer branding is measured by using three dimensions such as economic value, development value and social value. Data were gathered through standardized questionnaire method and for the purpose of hypothesis testing, correlation and simple regression analysis were used by the researchers. Data were analyzed through Statistical Package for Social Sciences 20.0 version software to find out the relationship between variables. The results of the study suggest that there is significant positive relationship between employer branding and executive level employees’ job satisfaction in AIA Insurance Lanka PLC. It was therefore suggested that organization must be a great place to work in order to enable employees to feel satisfied and remain in the organization.Item Corporate Social Responsibility and Social, Economic and Environmental Development in Sri Lanka(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2013) Tilakasiri, K.K.This study reports Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its present contribution of Sri Lankan context. CSR is renowned and known concept however, it is a new concept in Sri Lanka and research into this area relatively scarce compared with other Asian developing countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and China. Furthermore, this study reveals complete on the theoretical development and the current CSR practices in Sri Lankan organisations, based on the literature and the researcher’s CSR experience tried to achieve the research objectives which was to identify the basic activities of CSR that was implemented in the Sri Lanka’s organisations. Government and non-government organisations (NGO) have been implemented rules and regulations for community development, health and education development as well as environmental development, which are part of the CSR plans identified by international CSR standards. The government and the private sector both favour the adoption of CSR concepts, and are attempting to promote the implementation of CSR programmes in Sri Lanka.Item Are Women Entrepreneurs More Vulnerable Than Their Male Counterparts? – A Content Analysis(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2013) Kodisinghe, K.A.M.S.; Semasinghe, D.M.The objective of this study is to examine the problems faced by women entrepreneurs. Data for the study was mainly based on secondary data and some observations. The basic research method selected for the study was content analysis. For the identification of these issues we have reviewed various research articles and reports published by major journals. Findings of this study reveal that access to finance, social and cultural constrains, lack of specialized education background and advances in technology and role problems are the major problems faced by women entrepreneurs. We recommend that more organizations and networks should be established for the development of women entrepreneurs and to minimise the problems faced by them.Item Relationship Between the Personality Type and Work Life Balance Among Academic Staff of University of Kelaniya(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2013) Padmasiri, M.K.D.; Mahalaekamge, W.G.S.The focus of this research is to find out the impact of different types of personality and Work Life Balance (WLB) of academic staff of University of Kelaniya. Researchers used standardized personality assessment named as Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to assess the type of personality. Objectives are, to examine the impact of personality type of academic staff in University of Kelaniya on their WLB, to identify the level and type of personality of academic staff, to identify the level of WLB of academic staff and to recommend suitable personality type for WLB. Research sample consisted with 180 lecturers out of 560 University of Kelaniya. Standardized questionnaire used to collect data. Collected data analyzed and evaluated manually as well as using the SPSS and Excel. By considering the nature of the study conducted an Anova test. According to MBTI there are 16 personality types where one personality consists with 4 indicators. Indicators are as follow, IIntroversion, E-Extraversion, S- Sensing, I- Intuition, T- Thinking, FFeeling, J- Judging, P- Perception. In sample ISFJ, ISTJ, ESFJ and ENFJ each personality type have 4 indicators, ISFP, INTP, ESTJ and ENTJ each personality type has 3 indicators, INFJ has 2 indicators and INTJ, ISTP, ESTP, ENFP and ENTP each personality has only 1 indicator. According to the findings ISTP, ISFP, INTP, ESTP, ESFP, ISTJ, ENFP, ENTP, ESTJ, ESFJ, ENFJ, ENTJ personality have work life balance but people who have ISFJ, INFJ, INTJ, INFP personality have moderately balanced work life. There are no WL imbalance respondents. Sample consisted with 133 females & 47 males. Mean value of females and males are 36.57 and 34.44. Researcher recommended to enhance Extraversion, Intuition and Feeling indicators to execute the responders’ teacher career effectively. And suggested to enhance ENTP which emphasized Visionary career and its well match with the teacher career. Finally recommended to INTJ personality responders to attempt to change N indicator to become S by enhancing sensing abilities to balance WL. Further research areas are find WLB of academic staff with each personality type but respond to gender differentiation, marital status differences.Item Corporate Social Responsibility in Municipal Councils of Sri Lanka (With Special Reference to Solid Waste Functions)(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2013) Fernando, W.R.P.K.There has been a growing knowledge about the corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the modern communities. The CSR includes the feeling or ethics of the good relationship between organizational activities and civil society. There are two kinds of stakeholders in CSR such as internal and external. Three major administration structures can be seen in Sri Lanka; the Central government, Provincial councils and Municipal council (MC). Structure of the MC is the third and lowest level of administration in Sri Lanka. There are 23 MCs in Sri Lanka in 2011. Municipal solid waste is creating a lot of issues in urban areas. The objectives of the study on CSR in MCs of Sri Lanka; to identify stakeholder satisfaction, to recognise priority factors of CSR and to recognise similar groups of the CSR. Sample size is 200. Percentage analysis, multiple regression analysis and factor analysis were used as statistical tools. Aspect of external stakeholders, CSR has failed in MCs in Sri Lanka. Therefore the study recommended that, CSR program can be prepared as a system and mechanism between external stakeholders (employees) and internal stakeholders for getting the maximum benefit for both parties. Due to the cleaning of environment is an important factor for each person for the purpose of reducing or eliminating diseases from society.Item Measuring Employees’ Performance in the Public Sector in Sri Lanka: Testing of Two Models(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2013) Dhammika, K.A.S.Performance of employees of an organization is a key concern of managers irrespective of their level and position. This is highly relevant when an organization is experiencing a down word trend or a standstill in their employees’ performance. Assessment of employees’ performance is required for effective performance management in organizations. However, a relatively little attention has been paid by researchers for the identification of an appropriate model of performance for employees in Sri Lankan context particularly for the public sector. The purpose of this reported study was to test the two alternative models of performance on their goodness for assessing the performance the employees of the selected public sector organizations in Sri Lanka. A sample of 200 employees was selected representing 11 public sector organizations for the study. Standard questionnaire was used for the data collection which assesses the performance on dimensions of the two models and both exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were applied for the analysis of data. It was found that the role based model of performance recorded better model fit statistics over two factor model. The study revealed that the behavioral factors such as the job, career, team, innovator and organization are important aspects to be concerned in assessment of performance of employees. Both theoretical and practiocal implications of the finding emphazising on performance management were discussed.Item The Relationship between Performance Appraisal Satisfaction and Employee Outcomes: With Special Reference of Bank of Ceylon Head Office(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2013) Weerakkody, W.A.S.; Mahalekamge, W.G.S.The HR practice of Performance appraisal positively influences employee behavior and performance. The purpose of the present study is to examine the relationship between performance appraisal satisfaction and employee outcomes, in the form of employees’ motivation, work performance and employees’ commitment. Base on that purpose BOC Head office was selected to conduct this research. The research framework consists of independent variables, and a dependent variable. The independent variable of the study is PA satisfaction and dependent variable is employee outcomes. Dependent variable divided in to three sub variables; employees’ motivation, work performance and employees’ commitment. Three hypotheses were formulated to be tested under this study. To collect data a structured questionnaire was used and distributed among the 110 sample by using the simple random sampling method. The data was analyzed through correlations of variables and regression in order to answer for the Hypothesis of the study. The results indicate that there is a weak but positive relationship between performance appraisal satisfaction and employee outcomes. And also there is an impact of performance appraisal satisfaction on employee outcomes.According to the analysis, 10% impact of Performance Appraisal satisfaction on employees’ motivation, 14% impact of Performance Appraisal satisfaction on work performance and 5% impact of Performance Appraisal satisfaction on employees’ commitment. Thus, in order to obtain positive outcomes, organization should provide a performance appraisal platform where employees must create satisfaction with performance appraisal.
