Fisheries are a basic and essential part of the daily livelihood of Cambodian people. The fisheries sector is an important part of the national economy, contributing 10 percent of the national GDP. Fisheries sector can be divided into two parts. They are the, the traditional method, and the mechanical method. In the present situation the traditional method is used in some areas. The fishermen who have used the traditional methods have been facing many challenges. This study focuses on the threats they face in their life. The main objective in this survey is to examining why people give up their traditional tools. The comparative method and the survey method were used as research methodology in this study. Interviews and observation were used as the data collecting techniques. The research field is No 167, Uswetakeiyawa GS division in Gampaha district. 35 fishery families were taken as the sample out of all 300 fishery families in that village. The fishermen have to face many difficulties like inability to sell their production, living in a high security zone, having no permission to fish at early hours. Therefore they had to change their lifestyle. To overcome this situation we should create positive attitude among people and pay attention to increase the production and introduce a certified price.en_US
