Item Spirituality: A Boon for Organizational Performance.(8th International Conference on Business & Information ICBI – 2017, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Mathew, G. C.; Prashar, S.; Ramanathan, H. N.; Arunchand, C. H.Organizational management is one of the contemporary delinquents, most of the organizations have to address. The issues like job satisfaction, employee commitment and employee performance are the crucial factors of organizational management. Spirituality is a prominent and actual factor that can speed up satisfaction, commitment and performance. A substantial research gap connecting spirituality with job satisfaction, employee commitment and employee performance exist. This study reconnoiters the link between spirituality and job satisfaction and the influence of job satisfaction on employee commitment and performance. The study adopted a survey method to collect data from teachers from six different streams. To measure convergent and discriminant validities, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was adopted and later tested the structural model framework and research hypotheses. Findings of the current study suggest that spirituality has a direct influence on employee satisfaction and also endorse the linkages between job satisfaction, employee commitment and performance.Item Factors Associated with the Performance of Engineers within Software Development Companies in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Doole, F.R.; Abeygunawardana, R.A.B.The performance of organizations enables the growth of the company value and its survivability. However Organizational performance within the IT Industry is being mostly impacted by the human resources. As there are different types of employees, their dedication, effort and efficiency differ from each other. Summation of individual employee’s performance will result into the organizational performance. Therefore there might be significant association between organizational factors, individual skills and performance; however, this relationship was not examined in the Sri Lankan context in previous studies. To fill the said research gap this study was carried using the IT product development companies in Sri Lanka. The main objective of this research was to identify the factors which are associated with employee performance. This research was quantitative and used two main types of data collection methods: interviews and a questionnaire. The results of the analysis indicated that Organizational, Personal and Individual skill factors are associated with the engineer performance of software development companies. It can be concluded that the created conceptual framework was confirmed by the analysis which was carried out.Item The Nexus between Stress Level and Internship Performance: Evidence from Accountancy Interns from a Selected State University in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Divassini, P.This research was undertaken with the purpose of assessing the level of stress and determining the nexus between gender, professional courses, internship stressors and internship performance of accountancy interns at the University of Kelaniya. The data was collected from 93 respondents through a self-developed questionnaire survey. This study was being conducted at the end of the internship program. The gathered data were keyed and analyzed by using SPSS. The obtained results were valid and reliable for all items in the questionnaire. Independent sample test and regression analysis were applied for this study. R-square was signposted by 58.2% of variation of gender, professional course and internship stressors. The results showed non-significant difference between gender and internship performance. Internship stressors were negatively related to internship performance whereas professional courses did not influence the internship performance while other factors were constant. Another finding of the research is that the escalation of accountancy interns’ stress levels had less impact on internship performance than expected.Item Impact of Lean System on Merchandizing Performance Excellence(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2015) Pathirathna, L.S.B.H.; Herath, H.M.R.P.The study sets to achieve two objectives namely, identify the extent to which Lean system performance impact on Merchandizing Performance and bring recommends to horizontally replicate the research findings for similar organizations. The source of data for this study were both primary and secondary, and also the company data sources were assisted to fulfill this task. Since the company management encouraged for an effective outcome, the performance information was linked and opened throughout the research and the entire team involved taken for this program was consisted 160 merchandisers, where the total directly responding population was represented. The questionnaire was filled with main three categories, namely General Information, Lean System Performance, and Merchandising Performance and Lean System Performance was split into three sub areas, namely Safety and Ergonomics, Quality Management and Continuous Improvement. The data was analyzed through the SPSS software, and according to the findings, the Pearson’s correlation analysis justifies the positive correlations between safety and ergonomics, total quality management and continuous improvement with the Lean System Performance. The (R2) was 11.0%, which is the extent positively influenced to the Merchandizing Performance by the existing Lean System in the organization. The study also found out that the organization believes Lean System practices improve the long term business performance and this study establishes safety and ergonomics, quality management system and continuous improvement activity performance emanating from the implementation of lean system practices, and it impacts to the merchandizing performance as a front-end customer interface function of the organization.Item An Empirical Investigation into Determinants of Success of Foreign Financed Development Projects in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2015) Ubayachandra, E.G.; de Silva, S.K.D.U.By this empirical study it was aimed to investigate into the factors that affect the success or performance of foreign financed community based development projects in Sri Lanka. Out of the 548 existing project implementing organizations (Action Plan 2006) for the convenience of the analysis 64 organizations covering 15 districts were taken into consideration. The selected organizations are mixed with UN organizations, government and semi-government ventures, international NGOs, local and national NGOs. For collecting data 250 questionnaires which were received back without rejection were administered among the selected organizations. The key purpose of the study was to evaluate the influence made by identified couple of factors on success of considering projects. Specific objectives were to examine the interrelationship between main two factors and to identify the influence made by infrastructure facilities on success of these projects. For this purpose three research questions were addressed. They are; what is the degree of influence made by two factors on success? What is the interrelationship between two factors? What is the influence made by infrastructure facilities on success? Success of the projects was estimated in terms of allocation of resources, goal attainment and other impacts associated with productivity and quality improvement. Univariate analysis and bivariate analysis were employed in analyzing the data. Furthermore, "t" test and "F" test were applied for testing respective two hypotheses. In computing P value it was considered that for high significant level it should be equal to 0.05 and for it significant level should be equal to 0.10. For more clarification SPSS computing software version was associated. As indicated by the results of discussion it was noted that though both endogenous factors and exogenous factors make influence on success of projects, a dominant and vital role is played by endogenous factors in determining the performance of community based development projects in Sri Lanka. Thus a great attention should be paid on endogenous factors in strategically planning and implementing these projects.Item Market Orientation, Innovativeness and Performance in E-Learning Programme of Sri Lankan Universities(University of Kelaniya, 2014) Vaikunthavasan, S.; Samarakoon, S.M.A.K.The purpose of the study is to explore the market orientation, innovativeness and performance of the government Universities in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Universities were the unit of analysis. Data for this study were collected from the faculty heads or coordinators of Higher education programmmes in government Universities in Sri Lanka. Convenient sampling method was adopted, structured questionnaires were issued directly and sent through the mail to collect data and one hundred and fourteen respondents were gathered in this study. The MARKOR was used to measure the Market Orientation. Correlation and regression analysis were used in order to identify the association among market Orientation, innovativeness and performance. Three market orientation measures included intelligence generation; intelligence dissemination and responsiveness to intelligence were used to investigate their relationships with Innovativeness and performance. All three measures were found to be statistically significant and positively related to the Innovativeness and performance of the course programmes Universities in Sri Lanka. Thus a great attention should be paid on endogenous factors in strategically planning and implementing these projects.Item COMPOSITION AND CONFIGURATION OF THE BOARD AND FIRM PERFORMANCE(2010) Ranasinghe, D.N.Corporate Governance is an obligatory adherence function in the present turbulent business environment. Evidence reveal that non-compliance have resulted collapse of corporate giants around the world. Composition and configuration (Board Structure)of the board of directors, as a corporate governance component, derived much attention; consequently, practitioners and academia have tried to identify the most appropriate board structure by linking this with performance. Extensive literature on board structure-performance relationship yields mixed results and disregards nonfinancial aspect of performance. This study tries to determine to what extent the structure of the board affects financial and non-financial performance in listed banks, finance and insurance organizations in Sri Lanka which are exposed to continuous increase in complexity, risk and change in the industry, demanding for intensive corporate governance practices. It is aimed to identify the impact of the board structure on performance measured in terms of both financial and non-financial facets.Board size, non-executive and female director proportion, CEO/Chairman independence, accounting and market based coupled with non-financial performance indicators were employed to measure the comprehensiveness of the board structure and the performance respectively. Application of robust statistical techniques revealed that the relationship between the board structure and financial performance does not have a statistically significant relationship and contradicts the literature while board structure and non-financial performance revealed a significant relationship.
