Item The Impact of the Quality of Grievance Handling on Job Satisfaction among Middle-Level Employees in ABC (Pvt) Ltd(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies University of Kelaniya., 2024-11-11) Dilakshi, G. P. P.; Devadas, U. M.The Sri Lankan apparel industry is deeply committed to ensure the satisfaction level of its employees. Accordingly, the main purpose of this study is to see whether there is an impact of the quality of grievance handling on job satisfaction among middle-level employees at ABC (Pvt) Ltd. According to the literature, the research on the impact of quality of grievance handling on job satisfaction among middle-level employees in the apparel sector in Sri Lanka is skeletal. This study was conducted to determine the level of quality of grievance handling, the level of job satisfaction, and the impact of quality of grievance handling on job satisfaction among middle-level employees at ABC (Pvt) Ltd. Questionnaires were distributed among 59 selected respondents to collect data. The sample was drawn from its population using a simple, probabilistic random sampling technique. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences was used to analyze descriptive statistics, regression and correlation analysis. Accordingly, the analysis identified a significant positive relationship between the quality of grievance handling and job satisfaction among middle-level employees at ABC (Pvt) Ltd. The findings showed that dimensions of quality of grievance handling, such as timeliness, structure of grievance handling, justice and collaborative participation of managers and trade unions, also have a positive and significant impact on the job satisfaction of middle-level employees. Researcher is recommended by improving of commitment of all stakeholders and by implementing simple, transparent, timely manner grievance handling structure can easily enhance the quality of grievance handling in any organization.Item The Impact of Job Satisfaction on the Employees’ Perception towards Work Performance: A Study Based on Small and Medium Scale IT Companies in India.(8th International Conference on Business & Information ICBI – 2017, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Thangavelu, A.; Sudhahar, C.The Indian IT industry is having many challenges in managing their employees. Performance management is done in a more structured way in large IT companies, whereas it is not done in the same way in the small and medium IT companies. This research analyzed and investigated job satisfaction dimensions and various demographic characteristics of the employees and their perception of their performance by conducting a survey in small and medium-sized IT companies in Coimbatore, India. The data for the survey was collected using self-administered questionnaire based on COPSOQ and industry employee effectiveness surveys. The data was quantitatively analyzed using Z-test, Chi-square and one-way ANOVA. Findings revealed that indicate that there is a significant correlation between job satisfactions, feedback, employee satisfaction on the perception of performance. Further, this paper presents the limitations of the study and suggestions for the improvement of the perception amongst the small, medium IT industry.Item Spirituality: A Boon for Organizational Performance.(8th International Conference on Business & Information ICBI – 2017, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Mathew, G. C.; Prashar, S.; Ramanathan, H. N.; Arunchand, C. H.Organizational management is one of the contemporary delinquents, most of the organizations have to address. The issues like job satisfaction, employee commitment and employee performance are the crucial factors of organizational management. Spirituality is a prominent and actual factor that can speed up satisfaction, commitment and performance. A substantial research gap connecting spirituality with job satisfaction, employee commitment and employee performance exist. This study reconnoiters the link between spirituality and job satisfaction and the influence of job satisfaction on employee commitment and performance. The study adopted a survey method to collect data from teachers from six different streams. To measure convergent and discriminant validities, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was adopted and later tested the structural model framework and research hypotheses. Findings of the current study suggest that spirituality has a direct influence on employee satisfaction and also endorse the linkages between job satisfaction, employee commitment and performance.Item Impact of Psychological Contract on Employee Outcomes of Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment: A Case of a Leading Apparel Manufacturing Company in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Nishanthi, H.M.; Mahalekamge, W.G.S.The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of psychological contract on employee outcomes of job satisfaction and organizational commitment in a leading apparel company. Companies that invest more effort in achieving higher level psychological contract between their employees, employer and organization have satisfied and committed employees. The research design is descriptive in nature. A simple random sampling has been used to select the sample. The participants in the study were 50 executive level employees in a leading apparel company in Sri Lanka. Standard questionnaire was distributed to collect data. Based on the analysis, researcher identified that there is a strong positive relationship between psychological contract and employee outcomes of job satisfaction and organizational commitment. In addition, based on the findings researchers established that there is a significant impact of psychological contract on employee outcomes of job satisfaction and organizational commitment.Item A Study on the Attitude of Civil Non-Executive Staff About the Work-Life Balance in the Military: With Special Reference to Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Pathirana, B.P.; Rajapaksha, U.G.Work-life balance has been a topic frequented in the modern social and business environments mainly due to the fact that many organizations have now decided to shift from physical asset maintenance to human asset up-liftmen. Therefore, analyzing how a balanced human being can be more efficient than a normal employee has brought about vast changes in many business policies. Military however, is an industry that has its own set of rules with a work-environment that is unique entirely to them. Although military men are equipped to handle the work pressure that comes with the job description, the plight of most civil, non-executive employees are being grossly underrated. This study aims at examining the attitude of civil non-executive staff regarding the work-life balance in the military with special reference to Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake. For this purpose a sample of 50 civil non-executive employees were selected at random and data was collected using a semi-structured questionnaire. The data is statistically analyzed with the help of ordinal regression logic analysis model. It concludes that job satisfaction and job involvement has a significant influence over an individual’s ability to balance work and life.Item Impact of Job Satisfaction on Job Performance of Non-Executive Employees in Hotel Industry: With Special Reference to Kalutara District, Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Perera, M.D.S.H.; Weerakkody, W.A.S.Currently all organizations recognize that they can gain competitive advantage in the market place only if these organizations have employees who possess positive work related attitudes. Job satisfaction is one of the most important attitudinal factors on job performance. This study measured the impact of job satisfaction on job performance of non-executive employees in the hotel industry (star hotels) in the Kalutara district, Sri Lanka. On the scenario of continuous discussions on challenges faced by hotel industry in Sri Lanka, human involvement is yet to be considered as a significant organizational factor. There are several human resource glitches in hotel industry. It has made a vast impediment to minimize the effort of achieving organizational objectives in the hotel industry. The data were collected from a stratified randomly selected sample of 250 non -executive employees in the hotel industry (star hotels) by administrating a structured questionnaire, which consisted of 38 questions/statements along a 5 points scale. The data analyses consist of correlation and regression. Findings reveal that, job satisfaction was correlated with job performance of non-executive employees. Also there was an impact of job satisfaction on job performance of non-executive employees. Based on the findings valuable suggestions are provided to the managements of hotel industry in the Kalutara district, Sri Lanka to minimize the existing issues.Item The Impact of Career Anchors on Job Satisfaction of Bank Managers in State Owned Commercial Banks of Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2015) Wanigasekara, W.M.S.K.; Muthukumarana, P.P.S.Intense customer care is one of the best practices adopted by the private sector commercial banks and this has become a critical success factor that differentiates their service from the service of state banks. Hence, employee job satisfaction is a significant matter of concern for the state banks to face this challenge and achieve service excellence. Therefore, this study investigates the impact of individuals’ selfconcept on job satisfaction in terms of career anchor concept proposed by Edgar Schein. A purposive sample of 108 managers from Bank of Ceylon and People’s Bank head office were selected by using simple random sampling technique. The independent variable representing career anchors includes the following three dimensions; talent based career anchors, need based career anchors, value based career anchors while the dependent variable job satisfaction was analyzed under two dimensions namely; intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors. There are four hypotheses were formulated using deductive approach. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed among the respondents to collect data for the research. Descriptive statistics were used to present the characteristics of the sample of the study. Furthermore the Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis were used to measure the impact of career anchors on job satisfaction. The study found that there is a significant impact of need based career anchors on job satisfaction whereas talent based and value based career anchors have no significant impact on job satisfaction of managerial staff at state owned commercial banks.Item Impact of Attitudinal Factors on Job Performance of Non-Executive Employees in Hotel Industry: With Reference to Kalutara District(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2015) Perera, M.D.S.H.; Weerakkody, W.A.S.Nowadays all organizations have recognized the notion that the fact that an organization can gain competitive advantage in market place only if it has employees who possess positive work related attitudes. The study was made to measure the impact of attitudinal factors on job performance of non-executive employees in hotel industry (star hotels) in Kalutara district, Sri Lanka. On the scenario of continuous discussions on challenges faced by hotel industry in Sri Lanka, human involvement is yet to be considered as a significant organizational element. There are several human resources problems in hotel industry. Some going abroad for high salaries, lack of skillful employees in the hotel industry etc., which have made a huge obstruction to minimize the effort of the achieving organizational objectives in the hotel industry. All the positions (designations) in non- executive employee category of human resources have a significant role to play in maintaining the highest labor productivity in this sector. However the available literature does not provide enough empirical evidence with regard to the impact of attitudinal factors on job performance of non-executive employees in hotel industry (star hotels) in Kalutara district, Sri Lanka. Therefore, this study empirically investigated three attitudinal variables, which could influence on the job performance of the non-executive employees in the hotel industry. The data were collected from a stratified randomly selected sample of 100 non -executive employees in the hotel industry (star hotels) in Kalutara district Sri Lanka by administrating a structured questionnaire, which consisted of 61 questions/statements with 5 points scale. The data analyses included Correlation, Multiple Regression and Simple Regression analyses. According to the findings of the study, job satisfaction and organizational commitment were correlated with job performance of non-executive employees but job involvement was not correlated with job performance of non-executive employees in this sector. There was an impact of job satisfaction and organizational commitment on job performance of non-executive employees but job involvement was not impact on job performance of non-executive employees in hotel industry in Kalutara district, Sri Lanka. Especially job satisfaction and organizational commitment should be considered to enhance the performance of non-executive employees in this industry as an attitudinal factors. Based on the findings valuable suggestions were provided to the managements of hotel industry in Kalutara district Sri Lanka to achieve sustainable competitive advantage through people.
