Item Players’ Performance of a Team Game: A Conceptual Review with Special Reference to Sri Lanka Cricket(International Conference on Business and Information (ICBI – 2019), [Doctoral Colloquium], Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Maldeniya, D.; Weerasiri, R.A.S.Performance is the main objective of a person, team or organization on its respective area. Work place is the platform which created employees to perform. Team is the platform where the players can perform. It is indicated that there is a downfall of the performance of the Sri Lankan national Cricket team in international tournaments and tours. Sri Lankan team represented 116 international matches, including test, ODI, T20, from 1st January 20017 to 30th June 2019 and won only 34 matches in all three format of game. It is 29% of winning. The main purpose of the study is to identify the key factors that influence the players’ performance of a team game with special reference to Sri Lankan Cricket. Primary data were collected from the statistical review of Sri Lanka Cricket, Newspapers, Magazines, websites and research articles. The secondary data were collected through the in-depth interviews with former and current Sri Lankan national players, Cricket Administrators, Coachers, Journalist and spectators. Identified key factors were discussed with the experts of the game at the indepth interviews. According to the study it is identified that, self-regulation, knowledge of the team strategy and tactics, and expectancy of improving as the key factors that influence the players’ performance of a team game. Additionally, monitory and non-monitory incentives also affect the performance. However, there is no effect from the playing condition on the performance of the quality players.Item Downfall of Sri Lankan Cricket: Local Fans’ Perspective(9th International Conference on Business and Information (ICBI-2018), Department of Management Studies and Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, India, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Arjun De Silva; Weerasinghe, T.D.; Maldeniya, D.Even though the most popular and the most watched game during last few decades in Sri Lanka is cricket, it has been witnessed that the cricket fans are becoming less excited about the game of cricket during last years since Sri Lankan National men’s cricket team showed a losing momentum. Hence, bridging the gap in the context with empirical knowledge, the current study attempts to identify whether Sri Lanka Cricket actually has a downfall, and if so, what caused it, from the perspective of local cricket fans. Overall design of the study is qualitative. A trend analysis was performed using secondary data related to Test and ODIs match wins/draw/tie. A total of 74 Facebook comments were collected for the public question asked from July 14 at 11:54 PM to July 21 midnight. The qualitative data analysis; conventional content analysis was performed using the Atlas.ti application software. The comments carried 118 opinions out of which 2 said there is no downfall in Sri Lankan Cricket, and 116 said different opinions of the losing trend. The trend analysis provides that there is a downfall in Sri Lanka Test/ODI National men’s Cricket over last 8 years. According to the fans’ comments; poor management strategies, sport and politics, domestic cricket (school/club) issues, individual talent related issues, issues in selection of players, and sport commercialization are the main reasons whilst player replacement succession planning issues, issues related to the infrastructure distribution, and sport celebrity nature cause minor effect on the downfall of Cricket in Sri Lanka. Accordingly, it is suggested to formalize the selection procedure of players to the national team and establish a sound mechanism to regulate sport commercialization & eradicate undue political influences.Item Impact of People, Process, and Physical Evidence on Consumer Buying Intention of Motor Insurance industry in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Weerasiri, R.A.S.; Maldeniya, D.History of insurance industry goes to over centuries and currently the industry is facing issues for a profitable growth. Especially the non-life insurance sector ran in a loss for last couple of years and few companies recorded a profit from investment income. But it was not a major issue for non-life insurance section since it operates with the life insurance section. According to the new rules and regulations implemented recently, life insurance and non-life insurance should be segregated into two business entities. Then non-life insurance companies in Sri Lanka will face issues for profitable growth. The researcher tried to find out an acceptable solution for this issue and to introduce recommendations for the insurance industry. The researcher met few senior professionals from insurance companies and got the basic idea about current situation. Also met few ex-professionals from insurance companies and collected information about the insurance industry. These meetings helped to identify how the insurance industry was operated before few decades ago. Then, the researcher developed a sample questionnaire and circulated among 25 respondents. Then the reliability testing was done and developed the final questionnaire. There were 200 respondent selected to collect primary data. These respondents were selected from the Gampaha district. The data was collected from five insurance companies’ customer base and the study targeted customers who live in Gampaha district. The questionnaires were circulated through Google forms. Both descriptive and inferential techniques were used to analyze the data. The findings reveal that people is the most influential variable that influences the customer buying intention of motor insurance in Sri Lanka. The process is the second important factor and the physical evidence is the third. The researchers recommend that in order to develop the efficiency of people in insurance industry, both sales and non-sale, insurance companies must improve the customer touch points and develop the effective and speedy processes so that they can face industry challenges successfully.
