    The Impact of Workholism and Demographics on Marital Disaffection of Employees

    Marital disaffection has become a serious issue in the present society across the globe. Moreover, the marital disaffection among the working community keep growing at a higher pace than expected nowadays. It is quite evident that loving the work place more than loving the family had created many new problems in society like marital disaffection. Hence, the objectives of the study are to assess the relationship type between demographics / workholism and the marital disaffection and to assess the level of impact between the causal factors and resulting factors. Primary data was collected from a sample of 71 participants drawn following convenient sampling method from the population: working and married crowd. The researcher has used a validated and standard questionnaire as the primary data collection instrument. The statistical data analysis of the study was done using SPSS and tests of correlation and regression have used in order to test the relationship and the impact respectively. Further researcher used chi-square analysis technique to validate the relationship between demographic variables and the marital disaffection. The test results indicate that there is a positive relationship between workaholism and marital disaffection and the impact of workholism on marital disaffection is significant. It also indicates that gender and working sector have significant relationship with marital disaffection whereas age, marital status, years married, no of children, income per month and no of sleeping hours are not determinants with a significant impact. Females and the public sector people show less tendency towards marital disaffection All in all, the study showcases that the marital disaffection among the married people in Sri Lanka is caused by the workaholic behavior of the spouse, gender of the spouse, and sector the spouse working for

    The Effect of Facebook Usage Intensity and the Personality Type of Individuals on Academic Performance: A Study among Final Year Undergraduates of Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya

    During last couple of years, it had been quite evident that the academic performance of undergraduates are inconsistent over time and gender bias in the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies of University of Kelaniya. With the wide usage of internet and related services across the globe, the life style of people started to change. The global internet users have been passed 4 billion and among those 3 billion people around use social media in each month by using the mobile devices. The social media made major effect to the society and effect to the students’ academic performance in all the countries across the world. The purpose of this study is to examine whether Facebook usage intensity and the personality type impact on the university undergraduates’ academic performance. The primary data were collected from a sample of 142 university final year undergraduates via a validated standard survey instrument. The statistical data analysis techniques used for impact testing were chi-square and Nagelkarke R- square of logistic regression. The study brings up results showing that there is a significant impact on Facebook usage intensity and undergraduates’ academic performance relationship. Moreover, it has been observed, that personality type does not moderate the relationship between Facebook usage intensity and academic performance

    Determinants of Academic Performance: A Study among the Undergraduates of Sri Lankan State Universities

    The purpose of this study is to perform a scientific study on the causality of academic performance level in comparison with the emotional level of the undergraduates. Therefore, the general objective of this study is to assess the impact of emotional intelligence on level of academic performance among state university sector undergraduates in Sri Lanka. The researcher adopted a mixed method approach to scientifically collect data, analyze and come to a conclusion. The first half of the methodology was based on quantitative methodology and the findings of the statistical analysis was validated and confirmed using the qualitative data. The final sample consisted of 211 undergraduates selected at the convenience of the researches, from state universities in Sri Lanka. Data for the statistical analysis was collected through a structured questionnaire. Convenience sampling technique was applied to select the sample. The data was analyzed using Excel, SPSS and Atlas ti. The statistical analysis provided the correlation, chi square, and logistic regression that confirmed the direction of the relationship between the Emotional Intelligence and the Academic Performance. The results from Correlation Analysis, show that there is a weak positive relationship between emotional intelligence and level of academic performance. The gender of the undergraduates moderates the relationship between emotional intelligence and the level of academic performance. The qualitative data analysis reveals that there are seven factors other than Emotional Intelligence to determine on the level of academic performance. The found factors are commitment, language, work life balance, capacity, awareness, stress, medical reason, happiness and social media. The findings of the current study again confirm the general notion that the importance of emotional intelligence has been a must needed feature in learning partners

    Determinants of Work Family Conflicts of Duel Career Married Couples in Sri Lanka

    The main purpose of this study is to identify the key factors determining the work family conflicts and the level of impact of them on work family conflicts of duel career married couples in Sri Lanka,. The factors to determine this level of relationship had been identified in line with several research objectives derived from previous literature on personality factors, Spousal Support and Organizational Support. The hypotheses of the study suggested a linear positive relationship of organizational support (IV) on work family conflict (DV) whilst the spousal support (MV) moderated the relationship despite the personality attribute of each individual. However, it has been assumed that the personality factor (CV) controls the relationship of IV, DV, and MV and vice versa. For this descriptive study primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire. 83 valid responses were considered for the final analysis. The causality was tested using the Pearson correlation tests, and the level of impact of all the relationship had been tested using chi-square test, logistic regression test including the controlling impact analysis. Findings revealed that Organizational support, Spousal support and the Personality type of the respondents are major determinants of work-life conflicts and have significant impact on work-life conflicts among duel career married couples in Sri Lanka.
