D. M. C.; Weerasinghe, T. D.The concept and the practice of employee empowerment Human Resource Management is an important concept for the apparel sector as well. Because empowerment leads to both job satisfaction and organization’s goals achievements. Highly satisfied staff is most important in achieving this target. Therefore, this study attempts to investigate the factors of success of employee empowerment with special reference two garments factories in Kegalle and Gampaha area. In deciding the sample size of the Supporting employees for this research the researcher used 100 operational level employees for the sample. To test the hypothesis of this study, primary data were used. Primary data were collected through comprehensive Questionnaires given to Machine Operators and Supervisors. The data which collected from the questionnaire, analyzed descriptively using tables, frequencies and percentages. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) 23 was used for statistical analysis process. Those data presented by using tables and graphs. According to the participants’ responses and the analysis of this study employee empowerment has a positive and significant impact on organization culture, leadership style, communication style and self-esteem leads towards higher level of employee’s empowerment. A.The purpose of this study is to perform a scientific study on the causality of academic performance level in comparison with the emotional level of the undergraduates. Therefore, the general objective of this study is to assess the impact of emotional intelligence on level of academic performance among state university sector undergraduates in Sri Lanka. The researcher adopted a mixed method approach to scientifically collect data, analyze and come to a conclusion. The first half of the methodology was based on quantitative methodology and the findings of the statistical analysis was validated and confirmed using the qualitative data. The final sample consisted of 211 undergraduates selected at the convenience of the researches, from state universities in Sri Lanka. Data for the statistical analysis was collected through a structured questionnaire. Convenience sampling technique was applied to select the sample. The data was analyzed using Excel, SPSS and Atlas ti. The statistical analysis provided the correlation, chi square, and logistic regression that confirmed the direction of the relationship between the Emotional Intelligence and the Academic Performance. The results from Correlation Analysis, show that there is a weak positive relationship between emotional intelligence and level of academic performance. The gender of the undergraduates moderates the relationship between emotional intelligence and the level of academic performance. The qualitative data analysis reveals that there are seven factors other than Emotional Intelligence to determine on the level of academic performance. The found factors are commitment, language, work life balance, capacity, awareness, stress, medical reason, happiness and social media. The study used quantitative methods and survey strategy was followed. Data were collected using a standard questionnaire from 101 non-executive level employees. Findings revealed that there is a strong relationship between salary and job satisfaction and poor relationship between supervisor support and employee job satisfaction. A.The main purpose of this study is to identify the key factors determining the work family conflicts and the level of impact of them on work family conflicts of duel career married couples in Sri Lanka,. The factors to determine this level of relationship had been identified in line with several research objectives derived from previous literature on personality factors, Spousal Support and Organizational Support. The hypotheses of the study suggested a linear positive relationship of organizational support (IV) on work family conflict (DV) whilst the spousal support (MV) moderated the relationship despite the personality attribute of each individual. However, it has been assumed that the personality factor (CV) controls the relationship of IV, DV, and MV and vice versa. For this descriptive study primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire. 83 valid responses were considered for the final analysis. The causality was tested using the Pearson correlation tests, and the level of impact of all the relationship had been tested using chi-square test, logistic regression test including the controlling impact analysis. Findings revealed that Organizational support, Spousal support and the Personality type of the respondents are major determinants of work-life conflicts and have significant impact on work-life conflicts among duel career married couples in Sri Lanka.Item The Effect of CSR Initiatives on Employee Engagement: A Case of a Leading Tyre Manufacturing Company in Sri Lanka(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Nanayakkara, H. M. K.; Sangarandeniya, Y. M. S. W. V.This study aims to assess the impact of organizational Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives on employee engagement at work. The study sample consisted of 57 business professionals of XYZ International Sri Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., a multinational tyre manufacturing company. This was quantitative and cross-sectional research study. The data were collected using self-administered questionnaires which was personally distributed and emailed to the respondents in the selected sample. Simple regression analysis was used to test the study hypotheses. Analyzed results showed a significant impact of CSR initiatives on employee engagement. The study results clearly underlined the potential of firm’s involvement in CSR activities in influencing the employee attitude and behavior which means the level of engagement at work. Furthermore, this study raises the need for companies to look at their CSR strategies in a more serious and a holistic approach. Hence, today a growing number of employees do not see their family everyday due to traveling difficulties which in turn affect their work satisfaction. Thus, the main purpose of this study is to assess the impact of distance between home and workplace on employee work satisfaction. To attain this research objective, data were collected from one hundred employees who were working in 2 apparel industry firms, which are located in Biygama Export Processing Zone. To test the hypotheses, simple linear regression was used. The findings showed that the distance between home and workplace had a significant impact on employee non-work satisfaction, i.e. when employees do not visit their family every day, this has a negative effect on their life satisfaction. However, there was no significant impact of distance between home and workplace on work satisfaction. A.During last couple of years, it had been quite evident that the academic performance of undergraduates are inconsistent over time and gender bias in the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies of University of Kelaniya. With the wide usage of internet and related services across the globe, the life style of people started to change. The global internet users have been passed 4 billion and among those 3 billion people around use social media in each month by using the mobile devices. The social media made major effect to the society and effect to the students’ academic performance in all the countries across the world. The purpose of this study is to examine whether Facebook usage intensity and the personality type impact on the university undergraduates’ academic performance. The primary data were collected from a sample of 142 university final year undergraduates via a validated standard survey instrument. The statistical data analysis techniques used for impact testing were chi-square and Nagelkarke R- square of logistic regression. The study brings up results showing that there is a significant impact on Facebook usage intensity and undergraduates’ academic performance relationship. A. K. P.; Jayarathana, S. M. D. Y.Employee performance is substantial to any organization as it drives the business for success or failure. Thus, researchers continuously focus on conducting studies around this phenomenon. Though there are several studies on employee performance, there are still debates on how financial and non-financial rewards impact on employee performance. Hence, this study investigates the effect of financial and non-financial rewards on employee performance of employees at Emjay Penguin (PVT) Ltd. With the support from previous theoretical models and literature, the researcher has developed hypotheses, and used a personally administered questionnaire developed using standard measures ensured the reliability and validity. An exploratory cross sectional quantitative research design is applied to a sample of 90 respondents. Correlation and multiple linear regression analysis are used to test seminal theory that predict relationships between financial and non-financial rewards on employee performance. Findings revealed that financial and non-financial rewards have a significant positive relationship with employee performance where non-financial rewards have slighter higher impact than financial rewards on employee performance.Item The Effect of Marital Status upon the Relationship between Career Attitudes and Subjective Career Success(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Withanage, V. S.; Weerasinghe, T. D.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of civil status upon the relationship between career attitudes and subjective career success. By reviewing the literature, it is found that there is a relationship between career attitudes of oneself and their subjective career success, and the gender has an effect on this, yet the effect of marital status is an untouched topic. This study is quantitative and data were collected through a structured questionnaire. The convenience sampling technique was applied to select the sample, and the final sample consisted of 62 working employees in Sri Lanka. The data was analyzed using SPSS statistical package and correlation, regression and ANOVA tests were used. The study found that there is a moderate positive relationship between self-directed career attitudes and subjective career success, marital status has a moderating effect on it, where the married has a stronger positive relationship than unmarried. The findings of the study support the general idea that married people tend to have careers that match their personal requirements, thus frequently, they are the navigators of their own career. Major recommendations are, identifying different career attitudes identical to one another by both individual and organizational level in order to succeed individually as well as an organization, as the subjective career success increase organizational performance as a whole. P.; Padmasiri, M. K. D.This study focuses on the factors causing to less motivation behavior of operational level employees in the apparel industry in Embilipitiya, Sri Lanka. Data were collected from 100 lower level employees of garment factory by using structured questionnaires. The applied sampling technique was simple random sampling method. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one way ANOVA test, and Pearson correlation and regression analysis. Findings revealed that salary, working conditions, supervision and organization policies caused to employees motivation. N.Entrepreneurship play major role of long-term economic growth of a Nation and it is leading factor in achieving economic growth, high employment, strong Job creation and positive social development. Small and Medium Enterprises are the basic foundation for entrepreneurs to set up their ventures for many reasons. But, the recent statistics showed that the failure rate of SMEs is very high. As a result, a less number of successful entrepreneurs can be seen. Therefore, in the present days government wants to promote entrepreneurship among individuals. The main objective of this study is to identify entrepreneurial intention of university undergraduates of Sri Lanka. The study involves three factors that come under the Theory of Planned Behavior. Those are attitude towards behavior, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control, which affect the entrepreneurial intention of individuals. A total of 217 students from the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya were participated in this study by responding to a standard questionnaire. The data was analyzed using SPSS, employing the correlation, regression and ANOVA tests. The results of Pearson’s correlation and multiple regression analysis showed that attitudes toward behavior, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control have a positive relationship with entrepreneurial intention. And also according to regression analysis the attitudes towards behavior and perceived behavioral control have a 72.0% of impact to the entrepreneur intention. C. S. P.; De Alwis, A. C.Each and every one of us will encounter Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in our daily lives, but do we give a moment to think what life must be for those individuals. Spread across the world thousands of PwDs face many difficulties day in and day out due to the prejudice of society. One of the biggest areas where PwDs face resistance is employment opportunities. This study is a qualitative study with a phenomenological research strategy. The core findings suggest the reason for low employment of PwDs is the cultural influence on society’s beliefs and attitudes ultimately affecting their behavior. In addition certain industrial and organizational requirements affect PwDs ability to gain suitable employment. M. D. S.; Silva, H. M. S. V.This research paper examined the impact of consumer perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness on consumer adoption towards Self-service kiosks (SSK). Moreover, moderating impact of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness on attitude of banking customers was also tested in this study. A conceptual model of adoption process for SSK is developed and tested among Sri Lankan public banking consumers in western province. Based on Technology Acceptance Module, A linear structural relations methodological approach is used to develop conceptual framework. The current study found that both perceived ease of use and usefulness have direct impact on adoption of SSK. Further, consumer attitude acts as a partial mediator between the relationship of consumer perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and SSK adoption. This study has emphasized that system designers and bank managers need to consider system ease of use, perceived usefulness and consumer attitude towards technology when designing and implementing self-service kiosks system in Sri Lanka. The investigation serves as a mind map for the undergraduates to understand their own factors influence on their career choice while it encourage government to understand the improving areas to conduct career guidance and counselling programs. Employers are beneficial through understanding behavior and objectives of candidates so that they can attract most appropriate individuals. A survey design which is quantitative in nature was used in this empirical study. A standard questionnaire was used in collecting data from the participants. One hundred and eighty one undergraduates participated in the study. The Microsoft Excel – 2010 used to calculate the percentages that were used to analyze the data. The study revealed that extrinsic factors, intrinsic factors and interpersonal factors influence on undergraduates’ choice of careers. Regression analysis was used to test the hypothesized model of the study. Y.Presently, the world of recruitment pays an increasing interest on online recruitment where designing an attractive online job advertisement has become crucial to attract potential applicants’ intention to apply for a particular job vacancy. To design an online job advertisement that trigger intention to apply for a job vacancy, recruiters should pay close attention to the content or the features of the advertisement. Thus, this study focused on determining the features that significantly affect intention to apply of Commerce and Management undergraduates in the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and the moderating role of organizational attractiveness. Data were collected from 146 respondents through a questionnaire developed using standard measures validated by previous researchers. The researcher found that organizational culture and HR offerings are the two features considered by the most respondents out of work characteristics, employee portrayal, organizational culture, aesthetic appeal of the advertisement and HR offerings. Furthermore, the study revealed that organizational attractiveness as a strong moderator to strengthen the relationship between features of an online job advertisement and intention to apply. S.; Welmilla, I.The main objective of this study is to examine the impact of non-financial incentives on turnover intention through job satisfaction. For this purpose, this study empirically evaluated the three dimensions of non-financial incentives (Job Enrichment, Worker’s Participation in Management and Employee Recognition), job satisfaction and impact on the turnover intention. The sample consisted of 100 operational level employees working in apparel firms in Biyagama Export Processing Zone in Sri Lanka. Data were gathered by using a convenience sampling technique through self-administering questionnaires. Descriptive Statistical Analysis were used to analysis the existing situation of three dimensions. The strength of the linear relationship between two variables were measured by the Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient and the mediation effect of job satisfaction was assessed through Baron and Kenny mediation assessment technique. The analysis exposes that there is a strong negative relationship between employee non-financial incentives and turnover intention. Further it evident that job satisfaction partially mediates the relationship between non-financial incentives and turnover intention. The sole purpose of this study is to identify the impact of the ability of individuals to quickly bounce back from stressful situations and how does it affect to the work performance. K. A. S. S.; Janadari, M. P. N.In recent years employer branding has gained more attention among business personnel. The apparel industry in Sri Lanka has played major role into the competitive environment though representing the highest proportion in to the service sectors’ organization. Employer branding was played the legitimate value into that competitiveness of the trend of the modern world. The researcher has considered as the main purpose of this study was to examine the impact of employer branding on organizational commitment. By considering the dimensions of economic value, social value, and development value that cogitate the impact on organizational commitment. The final sample of the study consisted of 107 staff and executive level employees who are currently working in the Star Garments (PVT) Ltd, Katunayake. A standardized and pre-validated questionnaire was distributed among the study sample in order to collect data. The study conducted the simple regression and t-test analysis to assess the impact of employer branding on organizational commitment as well as the impact of economic value, social value and development value with considering organizational commitment. Further, the researcher was examined, with the demographic factor, that the result of gender of the respondents’ was controlled to assess the impact of the gender on the association of employer branding on organizational commitment. Findings revealed that there is a positive and moderate impact of employer branding on organizational commitment. As well as the economic value, social value and the development value were positive and moderate impact of employer branding on organizational commitment in respectively. Further, the study results revealed that gender does not significantly control the impact of employer branding on organizational commitment.
