The research problem was 'What are the problems faced by rehabilitated young offenders during the adaptation period? The objectives here are to identify the factors and reasons for resorting to rehabilitation, the problems faced by the youth during rehabilitation, the nature of the physical, mental, social, and emotional behaviors of the youth who return to society, and the actions that provided to support effective socialization of youth. In this research, we recognized that Label theory, subcultural theory, and psychological learning theory used as theories for rehabilitation and adaptation. A key point identified here is that the value of rehabilitation is lost as young people work to cope rather than adapt. Also, during the rehabilitation period, they adapt to that environment and hold on to what is wrong more tightly, which defeats the purpose of rehabilitation. The incarceration of young people is a major problem for the economy. Community correctional systems are proposed to minimize prison rehabilitation. The main reason for this is that rehabilitation is labeled as an adverse outcome, which is minimized. Separate prisons for minor and major offenders, drug offenders, and males and Females. More space to help them should be provided for religious or independent welfare institutions. It is important to provide a means of earning a living in prisons and to contribute to the personal and Sri Lankan economy.
