(9th International Conference on Business and Information (ICBI-2018), Department of Management Studies and Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, India, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) De Alwis, A.C.; Ramanadhan, H.N.
Mission statement is the most important document of corporate communication and it should be developed with relevant required components and able to read and understand by the different stakeholders. Considering this premise, this research endeavor is aimed at evaluating the mission statements of public quoted companies in Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). The entire population of the CSE is 298 companies, the sample selected through multi stage sampling method, and it was consisted 78 companies. The mission statements were retrieved from the respective websites, while the analysis was done under two stages. To test the richness of the statement, it was applied the model developed by Pearce and David (1987) and David (1989). To test the level of readability, the fog index was used. Analysis of statements for richness proved that the sample firms in our study generally did not include needed components in their mission statements. The most popular components the sample firms most often included was Product and service, Philosophy and public image. Secondly it was recorded a very poor readability index for mission statements of all the companies. This high score implies the need to review and rewrite the mission statements by reducing sentence length and the use of multiple-syllable words.

(9th International Conference on Business and Information (ICBI-2018), Department of Management Studies and Toc H Institute of Science and Technology, India, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Janadari, M.P.N.; Subramaniam s/o Sri Ramalu; Wei, C.C.
As an outgrowth of the extended seminal works much of the scholarly concentration focus on the positive psychology of the work place or positive organizational behaviour. Consequently, attention was drawn on psychological movements at the macro or organizational level and individual movements less examined though it improves the efficiency and the effectiveness of the organization. Likewise, more research studies on psychological capital and organizational Citizenship Behaviour towards environment (OCBE) centred on western context and the testing of the goodness of measure of these variables in Sri Lankan context relatively scant. Therefore, the general objective of this paper is to validate the conceptualization of psychological capital and OCBE in Sri Lankan Context. Data were collected through the survey method by using adapted questionnaires from 196 public sector utility employees in Sri Lanka. As per the discussion mainly, two core criteria were employed as reliability and validity to confirm the goodness of the measures of the constructs. Internal reliability and composite reliability scales were commonly work out to assessed construct reliability of the intended constructs. Convergent validity achieved through Average Variance Extracted and factor loadings. Discriminant validity evaluated by assessing the cross loadings, Fornel-Larcker criterion, and Heterotrait- Monotrait Ratio of correlation (HTMT). All validity and reliability indicators including items’ loadings, composite reliability, and average variance extracted (AVE), and square roots of the AVE and HTMT correlations have demonstrated higher coefficients confirming the reliability and validity of the study constructs. Therefore, findings demonstrated that the psychological capital and OCBE constructs could be used for potential researchers in Sri Lankan context for their future studies. The PLS 03 data analysis technique added more value in this study providing significant contribution theoretically and methodologically by validating and conceptualizing the concepts

An Empirical Investigation into Determinants of Success of Foreign Financed Development Projects in Sri Lanka
(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2015) Ubayachandra, E.G.; de Silva, S.K.D.U.
By this empirical study it was aimed to investigate into the factors that affect the success or performance of foreign financed community based development projects in Sri Lanka. Out of the 548 existing project implementing organizations (Action Plan 2006) for the convenience of the analysis 64 organizations covering 15 districts were taken into consideration. The selected organizations are mixed with UN organizations, government and semi-government ventures, international NGOs, local and national NGOs. For collecting data 250 questionnaires which were received back without rejection were administered among the selected organizations. The key purpose of the study was to evaluate the influence made by identified couple of factors on success of considering projects. Specific objectives were to examine the interrelationship between main two factors and to identify the influence made by infrastructure facilities on success of these projects. For this purpose three research questions were addressed. They are; what is the degree of influence made by two factors on success? What is the interrelationship between two factors? What is the influence made by infrastructure facilities on success? Success of the projects was estimated in terms of allocation of resources, goal attainment and other impacts associated with productivity and quality improvement. Univariate analysis and bivariate analysis were employed in analyzing the data. Furthermore, "t" test and "F" test were applied for testing respective two hypotheses. In computing P value it was considered that for high significant level it should be equal to 0.05 and for it significant level should be equal to 0.10. For more clarification SPSS computing software version was associated. As indicated by the results of discussion it was noted that though both endogenous factors and exogenous factors make influence on success of projects, a dominant and vital role is played by endogenous factors in determining the performance of community based development projects in Sri Lanka. Thus a great attention should be paid on endogenous factors in strategically planning and implementing these projects.
