Item IMPACT OF MACHINE OPERATORS’ EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ON JOB SATISFACTION AT MICHELIN LANKA (PVT) LTD(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2025) Senarathna, B.D.K.G.; De Silva, G.H.B.A.This study examines the impact of emotional intelligence on job satisfaction among machine operators at Michelin Lanka (PVT) Ltd, a labor-intensive tire manufacturing company. Given the industry's reliance on human resources, employee satisfaction is crucial for productivity and operational success. However, low job satisfaction among machine operators has been observed, necessitating an exploration of emotional intelligence as a contributing factor. A quantitative research design was employed, using a self-administered questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale. The study surveyed 220 machine operators, with 178 valid responses collected via Google Forms. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 23.0, applying descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction. The findings indicate a significant positive correlation between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction. Employees with higher emotional intelligence, particularly in self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management, reported greater job satisfaction. These insights suggest that enhancing emotional intelligence through targeted training and development programs could improve job satisfaction, employee motivation, and overall productivity. The study contributes to the understanding of emotional intelligence in labor-intensive industries, providing practical recommendations for Michelin Lanka’s management to implement strategies that foster emotional intelligence and enhance workforce satisfaction.Item IMPACT OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE WITH THE MEDIATING EFFECT OF CREATIVITY: A STUDY OF EXECUTIVE LEVEL EMPLOYEES IN ABC (PVT) LTD IN TIRE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY IN SRI LANKA(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2025) Gunarathne, R.B.I.R.; Jayasinghe, C.This research aims to examines the impact of emotional intelligence on employee performance in executive level employee category in ABC Pvt Ltd, a tire manufacturing company in Sri Lanka, emphasizing the mediation role of creativity. Emotional intelligence, which comprises empathy as well as self-awareness, is increasingly taken to be one of the key determinants of performance, not least in fast-changing organizational environments that are now common. Such relationship can further be empowered toward innovation and problem-solving with creativity. For this using a quantitative cross sectional survey design, 300 executive staff members were the population and a sample of 169 employees were taken. A structured questionnaire measuring emotional intelligence, creativity, and employee performance using a 5-point Likert scale was used to collect data. Statistical analysis performed included correlation and regression through SPSS for establishing relationship and hypotheses testing. Findings of the research demonstrated that emotional intelligence is a significant positive contributor to employee performance levels. This also favors creativity, which influences employee performance. Creativity served as a key mediator in strengthening the relationship between emotional intelligence and its performance outcomes. These results underline the importance of emotional intelligence and creativity in enhancing organizational efficiencies and innovations. This study has identified as crucial emotional intelligence and creativity in enhancing employee performance in the manufacturing sector. Organizations should then consider the necessity of emotional intelligence and creativity development through training and leadership development programs for better productivity and innovation.Item IMPACT OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ON ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT WITH THE MODERATING ROLE OF PERCEIVED ORGANIZATIONAL JUSTICE: A STUDY OF ABC TELECOMMUNICATION COMPANY(Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2025) Kumara, R.S.K.R.N.; Jayasinghe, C.Previous scholars have identified organizational commitment as an essential tool that can increase retention and reduce turnover rates and improve other overall employment factors. However, the biggest problem facing the industry today is the high employee turnover rate, but significantly, managerial level employees have higher commitment than the other level. This study aims to explore the impact of emotional intelligence on organizational commitment and the moderator role of perceived organizational justice in the above relationship, considering management level employees in ABC Telecommunications Company in Sri Lanka. Although the relationship between organizational commitment and emotional intelligence has been confirmed in the Western literature, it has been relatively difficult to find investigated of this relationship in the Sri Lankan context, especially in the telecommunications sector. The present study investigated how these factors are related to each other and how they affect employees. Deductive approach was applied using an online survey research method and a quantitative research methodology. The population of the study was the managerial level employees of ABC Telecommunication Company, and the sample size was 214 Correlation and regression analyses were performed using SPSS. According to the findings of the study, it is concluded that emotional intelligence has a statistically positive effect on organizational commitment. Furthermore, it was found that perceived organizational justice has a moderating role on emotional intelligence and organizational commitment. A relationship was found between the three variables and both hypotheses were accepted.Item The Impact of Supervisor Emotional Intelligence on Subordinate Employees' Job Performance: A Study of Operational Level Employees in Apparel Industry(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Vasundara, W. D.This study examined the impact of supervisor emotional intelligence on their subordinates’ job performance in lower level employees in one of leading garment manufacturing companies in Sri Lanka. 125 operational level employees who attached to various functional units were selected as the sample using simple random sampling technique. This study is deductive and quantitative. Data were collected through a questionnaire. Results revealed that supervisors’ emotional intelligence components (i.e., self-awareness, self-regulation, self-motivation, social awareness and social skills) have no impact associated with the subordinate job performance in this context. This study contributes to theory and practice.Item Determinants of Academic Performance: A Study among the Undergraduates of Sri Lankan State Universities(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Rupasinghe, P. A.The purpose of this study is to perform a scientific study on the causality of academic performance level in comparison with the emotional level of the undergraduates. Therefore, the general objective of this study is to assess the impact of emotional intelligence on level of academic performance among state university sector undergraduates in Sri Lanka. The researcher adopted a mixed method approach to scientifically collect data, analyze and come to a conclusion. The first half of the methodology was based on quantitative methodology and the findings of the statistical analysis was validated and confirmed using the qualitative data. The final sample consisted of 211 undergraduates selected at the convenience of the researches, from state universities in Sri Lanka. Data for the statistical analysis was collected through a structured questionnaire. Convenience sampling technique was applied to select the sample. The data was analyzed using Excel, SPSS and Atlas ti. The statistical analysis provided the correlation, chi square, and logistic regression that confirmed the direction of the relationship between the Emotional Intelligence and the Academic Performance. The results from Correlation Analysis, show that there is a weak positive relationship between emotional intelligence and level of academic performance. The gender of the undergraduates moderates the relationship between emotional intelligence and the level of academic performance. The qualitative data analysis reveals that there are seven factors other than Emotional Intelligence to determine on the level of academic performance. The found factors are commitment, language, work life balance, capacity, awareness, stress, medical reason, happiness and social media. The findings of the current study again confirm the general notion that the importance of emotional intelligence has been a must needed feature in learning partnersItem The Impact of Leader’s Emotional Intelligence on Employee Retention Intention: Evidence from a Leading Organization in Fast Moving Consumer Goods Industry(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Fernando, P. A. S.; Gamage, P. N.The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the Emotional Intelligence (EI) of managers and retention intention of their direct reports. The findings are discussed in terms of a business case and it was conducted in one of the leading organization in the field of Fast Moving Consumer Goods in Sri Lanka, targeting the head office staff employees. The employees were given questionnaires to complete in order to assess their retention intention and to rate the level of EI of their leaders as how they perceived it. Correlation analyses were then performed with the data. The statistical results showed that the leaders’ EI has a significantly moderate and positive impact on the retention intention of their direct reports. The major reason is some level of emotional intelligence is needed to perform each role of the workplace. Nursing work involves cognitive and technical skills, there has been increasing recognition of the interpersonal and intrapersonal skills required to cope with the complex demands of modern health care systems. This study examined the impact emotional intelligence on job performance of nurses in private and public sector hospitals. The sample size was 100 female nurses. Researcher conducted correlation analysis, regression analysis and descriptive statistics in order to testing the hypothesis. SPSS package was found that there is a positive moderate relationship between emotional intelligence and job performance. Further it was found that there is a significant impact of emotional intelligence on job performance and it is revealed that there is a higher impact in private sector. Findings of this study is vital to determine that identifying and managing own and others emotions is essential to nurses to enhance their performance and make critical decisions such as death and life decisions. The researcher recommended to organizing educational and training programs regarding emotional intelligence and job performance to achieve above objectives.Item Impact of Psychological Characteristics with the Mediating Effect of Psychological Wellbeing on Job Performance: A Conceptual Paper With Reference to Services Sector Research Propositions(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, 2015) Javed, S.; Sambasivan, M.; Dissanayake, D.M.R.The purpose of this conceptual paper is to find out the impact of psychological characteristics on job performance with the mediating effect of psychological wellbeing of customer service representatives. . Relevant literature article have been perused and accordingly the proposition were proposed. It was found out from the literature that psychological characteristics such as emotional intelligence, psychological ownership and psychological capital play a vital role in the context of call center’s customer service representative’s job. In addition to this it was also found out that psychological wellbeing mediates the relationship between these personality characteristics and job performance. The research limitation is that conceptualized perspective of the variables mentioned have not being tested. The insight gain from this study will help in selection and recruitment strategies. The most prominent feature of the call center job is to interact with customers so while recruiting mangers can identify the factors that to what extent individuals are able to cope with proactive aspects of the call center job. This conceptual paper will contribute to the customer service literature by providing practical affirmation on the antecedents of psychological wellbeing.Item Role of Emotional Intelligence in Organizational Learning: An Empirical Study Based on Banking Sector in Sri Lanka(2010) Dissanayaka, D.R.; Janadari, M.P.N.; Chathurani, R.A.I.In the present millennium one factor that appears to be constant in organizations is change. As a result, of that organizations are forced to make significant transformations in order to adapt and survive in this new world. Revans (1983) says that in any epoch of rapid change, those organizations which are unable to adapt will soon find themselves in trouble, and adaptation is achieved only by learning. Organizational Learning (OL) is about the acquisition of new knowledge and highlights the importance of acquiring and disseminating information to assist organization actions (Miller, 1996). Huber (1991) identified that OL consists of four constructs; Knowledge Acquisition, Information Distribution, Information Interpretation and Organizational Memory. Any organization wishing to thrive through change must make the choice to promote, and allow employee expressions of Emotional Intelligence (EI) (Hunton et al, 1998; Robertson et al, 1999). Goleman (1998) has identified four main dimensions of Emotional Intelligence (EI); Self Awareness, Self Management, Social Awareness and Relationship Management. Most of the literature expressed that there are very few studies on this topic in Sri Lankan context as well as all over the world. In addition to that empirical studies also proved that emotional research studies in organizational setting was ignored for a significant period of time. Therefore researchers were attempted to explore the nature and relationship of emotional intelligence in organizational learning Researchers have selected Sri Lankan domestic banks for the study as financial sector is identified as one of the most dynamic and vibrant sectors of the economy. The units of observation of the study were at individual level, managerial level employees. 70 managerial level employees were selected through simple random sampling method for the study. Both primary data and secondary data were collected for the study. Primary data were collected using a structured questionnaire and in-depth interview. Questionnaire was pre-tested using test-retest method for estimating the reliability. SPSS computer package was used as a tool for compiling and processing data. The findings of this study emphasized that the employees possessed above average level of EI and the processes of OL characterized by innovation, implementation, and sustenance of new ideas, processes structures and the likes are more than satisfactory. Further study results depicted EI as being positively and significantly related with OL. The findings have implications for management of people towards creating and maintaining OL.
