Item The benefits of participating in campus recreational sport facilities and programs: special reference to University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Wijesinghe, M.; Ashika, B.A.D.W.There has been a culture of recreational sports in the world. Especially higher educational centers like universities serve various types of recreational sport programs. Most of university students are spending a very busy life due to their educational activities. However, recreational activities alleviate the encumbrance of their busy lives. The primary purpose of this study was to investigate aspects of the Benefits of Participating in Campus Recreational Sports Facilities and Programs in University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. The specific objectives of this study were the types of campus recreational programs that students are interested in and the benefits which have mostly attracted the students to the CR programs. The independent variable was the campus recreation and the dependent variable was campus recreation benefits. Random sampling method was used to select sample and research is limited to 200 internally registered students who actively participate in the recreational sports at University of Kelaniya. Data collection instrument was the Quality and Importance of Recreational Services (QIRS) survey, further Likert scale was employed as well. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 21.0) was utilized to analyze the data using Ordinal Logic Regression and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to determine benefits gained from participating in campus recreational activities. The results of this study identify the most dominant benefit factors, influencing the choice of campus recreational activities.Item A Comparative Study about the Factors Influencing on the Temporal Changes of Literacy; with reference to G.N. Division of Aruppala and Gomaraya in Kandy District(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Atipola, A.M.W.S.S.; Fernando, W.Literacy is a very important criterion in measuring the intelligence of a person or the population of the country' Temporal changes in literacy could be identified in the world in Sri Lanka as well' The main objective of this Research is to ascertain the factors that influence on the spatial changes taking place in literacy. Aruppala Grama Niladhari Division of Gangawatakorale Divisional Secretaries at Division in Kandy" District was selected as the sample with a higher level of literacy and Gomaraya Grama Niladhari Division of Panvila Divisional Secretaries at Division was selected as the sample with a lower level of literacy for this study. Forty families from both areas were selected as sample at 20 families from each G.N. Division and data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. 40 families were selected as random samples and the collected data were analyzed through the detailed analytic system. It could be identified from the findings of the study that severe spatial discrepancies exist in the course of illiteracy. It also could be identified from the results of the study that mainly social, economic, political and environmental factors have contributed to the positions of a higher level and lower level of literacy in the two different sample areas of the study. Among their ,factors such as poverty ,low level income and unemployment could be identified that had influenced in the course leading to lake of literacy .Further ,the other social drawbacks namely lake of fundamental education , illiteracy of parents , children not being referred for education and due to deleterious environmental conditions also have contributed towards the above unfortunate situations. Other factors that had to such a situation where the political riots during 1988/89 inadequacy of teaching staff and lake of infrastructure facilities. On the other hand, the factors that have contributed towards the higher level of literacy are, higher state of economy, proper educational facilities, encouragement by parents, proper infrastructure facilities. Satisfactory conditions of teaching in schools, increase of educational institutes etc. According to the above conditions, it could be concluded that increase of provisions for educations , development of infrastructure facilities, improvement of living conditions of people are very important for the development of literacy in rural areas.Item Contribution of Computer Literacy for Socio-economic Development in Rural Areas of Sri Lanka(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Hansamali, K.W.M.; Sakalasooriya, N.This paper scrutinizes the relationship between rural development and computer literacy in Sri Lanka. As a developing country, Sri Lanka has significantly paid attention to enhance the computer literacy in both urban and rural areas. The computer literacy surveys show that the computer literacy of Sri Lanka has dramatically increased during the last decade. According to the census, 22.4 percent of total households of Sri Lanka have at least one desktop or laptop by 2014, and the figure of rural area is about 20.4 percent. One of the major objectives of increasing the computer literacy is to expedite the socio-economic development in Sri Lanka. Therefore this study explains the relationship between computer literacy and rural development progress of Sri Lanka. The study is based on primary and secondary data and information. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected using semi-structured questionnaires, focused group discussions, field observations and key informant discussions. Wellandura Grama Niladari Division of Kahawaththa Divisional Secretariat Division in Rathnapura District was selected as the study area, and 50 respondents has been selected for sample survey. It was conducted 05 focused group discussions to collect the qualitative data. Both qualitative and quantitative data analyse techniques were applied. The results of the study clearly show that there is no satisfactory positive relationship between literacy computer of villagers and their village development. The young generation of the study area has better computer literacy but they do not like agriculture sector or self-employment. The majority of people including younger generation use their computer literacy for entertainment purposes like maintain Facebook, watching YouTube, playing computer games, etc. the parents of school children are totally disgusted about their children‟s computer literacy because of avoiding homework misbehaviour, and they think that their children will face many socio-cultural and especially sexual abuses through computers.Item Economic and Social Vulnerability of Chronic Kidney Disease Affected Families in Sri Lanka; the Case Studies in Anuradhapura District(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Gunawardana, P.H.J.P.; Sakalasooriya, N.This paper examines the nature of economic and social vulnerability of the families which has affected by the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in Central Dry Zone, agricultural area, of Sri Lanka. CKD has already become one of the major reasons for mortality and morbidity in this rural area. This CKD was first identified in 1991 in Anuradhapura District of North Central Province (NCP) in Dry Zone, and it has spread-out to other 06 provinces in Sri Lanka. WHO says that about 15 % of settlers aged 15-70 years in NCP is being suffered by CKD. During the last 24 years over 22,000 deaths were reported due to the CDK. After affected the CKD and/or the deaths a member or members of family, their family‟s economic and social sustainability is begun to collapse. This is the beginning point of their economic vulnerability. This situation excludes their life from the general social and economic life style. This research has focused these economic and social problems of these families and their nature of issues. Finally, the study makes the recommendations to sustain their lives and mainstream the members of these families. This is inductive study and uses both qualitative and quantitative data and information for evidence. 25 affected families out of 70 total families were selected as a sample from the village of Etambagaskada in Medawachchiya Divisional Secretariat Division. All the family members of the sample are negatively impacted and they are unable to sustain themselves. Just after the affection, they give up the hope of life, and their family members become hopeless and directionless. This situation leads to create more vulnerability to the family and their villages. Especially designed counselling process and the economic assistance are needed to avoid vulnerability. This intervention should come from the government end but still it is not good enough.Item Effect of the perception of military employees on visitor experience: Viharamahadevi Park, Sri Lanka(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Pathiraja, P.M.S.; Thilakarathne, L.I.A.S.Conversation is being increased in the world of Recreation Park, where security has given the place. The particular study titled “Effect of the perception of military employees on visitor experience: Viharamahadevi Park, Sri Lanka”. The main purpose of this study, to identified relationship between military perception and visitor experience. The researchers carried out an extensive literature review to provide conceptual background of the study and formulated a conceptual mode and formulate one hypothesis namely Visitor‟s Experience is affected by perception on military officers. Sample random, sampling method was used and selected go visitors for the sample this study and Data were collected through questionnaire. Associating SPSS 21.0 software and based on univariate analysis and bivariate techniques the data were analysed. The results of this study suggest that there is a significant relationship between military perception and visitor experience. Based on that results indicate significantly influence for perception military and visitor experience.Item Effect of Workplace Recreation Activities on Employees’ wellbeing at Bank of Ceylon (BOC), Sri Lanka(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Wijenayake, D.T.; Ramanayaka, N.The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of workplace recreation activities on the well-being of employees at the Bank of Ceylon (BOC), Sri Lanka. The sound literature review implied that workplace recreation activities became as a one of the popular tool for improving Human Resource in terms of wellbeing of employees. But in Sri Lankan context, it is comparatively low involvement of workplace recreation programs were implemented by employer. The researcher sought to fill this gap by investigating the effect of workplace recreation as well as physical fitness programs, mental health programs, and workplace entertainment programs on the wellbeing of employees. In this study it was used qualitative data analysis approach to measure the association between workplace recreation activities and employee wellbeing using chi-square test. The sample size of 52 employees was selected and this 52 sample selected by using snowball sampling method. Workplace recreation activities and employee wellbeing questionnaires were distributed to the sample size. The findings revealed that physical fitness programs, mental health programs and entertainment programs in workplace recreation activities and employee wellbeing are associated significantly at 0.05 level of significance.Item The Endemic Socio-Economic Issues of Widowed Female Headed Families in Rural Areas of Sri Lanka(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Mihirani, K.G.N.; Sakalasooriya, N.This paper explains the outcomes of the Udawalawa Multi-Purposes Development Programme (UMPDP) which has implemented in 1963. The UPMPDP has implemented under river valley development approach with o6 major objectives. This study clearly point out the progress of these objectives and the new trends in the programme area.The Udawalawa is the second multipurposes development project in Sri Lanka. The programme has covered the rehabilitation and upgrading of 62,803 ha. and 21873 ha. Has newly been irrigated. A total benefitted family of the programme is 63,522. The results of the study reveals that the industries which were implemented under the project were collapsed except Sevanagala Sugar factory and Thimbolketiya Timber mill. Hydropower generation is very successful because 2450 MW has produced by two hydro power plant in 2014. The programme has directly and indirectly generated new job opportunities in the area. By 2014, 258,388 hectares were distributed among poor farmers for agriculture. Even though, the project has planned to mitigate the frequent floods in the area, the settlers still suffer the problem. As a new trend tourism is becoming one of the major income source because of Udawalawa elephant orphanage and Udawalawa Wild Life Park. The study is based on primary and secondary data and information. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected using semi-structured questionnaires, focused group discussions, field observations and key informant discussions. For collecting the primary data, Moraketiya Grama Niladari Division has selected and 50 families were interviewed. Both qualitative and quantitative data analyse techniques were applied.Item Evaluation of the Progress of Pilisaru Solid Waste Management Project in Kegalle Urban Council(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Wimalarathne, P.A.M.S.; Sakalasooriya, N.This paper evaluate the outcomes of Solid Waste Management Project (SWMP) in Kegalle Urban Council (UC) which has established by Pilisaru National Solid Waste Management Programme of Sri Lanka. The project has six objectives which are designed to maximize the efficiency of solid waste management in Kegalle UC. The main objectives of this study are to evaluate the current progress and the process of SWMP of Kegalle UC, and to identify existing problems and issues of the project. The estimated quantity of Municipal Solid Waste generated in Sri Lanka is estimated as 6,400 tons per day. The urban population across Sri Lanka has been increasing and 20 percent of total population of Sri Lanka live in cities. Number of industries and agriculture firms has increased rapidly to fulfil needs of people increasing with the urban population growth. High number of industries and residents are disposing large amount of waste to the environment in urban areas. Different types of waste could be identified which resulting from different industries and residential areas. They are mainly categorized as degradable and nondurable solid waste. Pilisaru project mainly focus the degradable waste for producing compost. The results of the study reveals that the first and the third objective of the project, increase the efficiency of solid waste collection, and recycling the solid waste, are satisfactorily achieved. The other four objectives, reducing waste generation, increasing compost usage, promoting carbonic agriculture, and producing new job opportunities, has not been satisfactorily achieved. The study is based on primary and secondary data and information. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected using semi-structured questionnaires, focused group discussions, field observations and key informant discussions. It has been selected 50 housing units and business places for sample survey to collect the primary data farmers has been selected for sample survey and 06 focused group discussions and key informant discussions were conducted to collect the qualitative data. The management is facing a complex situation in maintaining the satisfaction of the employees as they are the most valuable assets to the organization in today‟s business context. The general objective of this study was to identify methods to enhance employee productivity by enhancing motivation and job satisfaction through addressing the significance of compensation practices, training and development practices, and health and safety practices in Apparel industry of Sri Lanka. The dependent variable of this study was employees‟ productivity of non-managerial employees that measured with level of individual productivity while the independent variables were the factors that measured with practices towards compensation, training and development and health and safety. This research has used primary data to gather information from the sample selected by the stratified random sampling technique where questionnaire was the main source of information. To gain the objectives of the research Descriptive analysis, Chi-square test and Factor analysis were used to analysis of data. The main limitation of the study was that it has based on one garment factory. Therefore, the findings of the study conclude there is a positive correlation between above practices towards employee productivity in apparel industry of Sri Lanka.Item Factors influencing tea consumption behavior in Sri Lanka (with special reference to Ratmalana divisional secretariat in Colombo district)(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Abeygoonaratne, M.V.C.; Kularatne, M.G.Tea is one of the most popular beverages consumed worldwide (Chacko, Thambi, Kuttan, & Nishigaki, 2010). According to the statistics provided by economic and social statistics, Sri Lanka continues to retain in the position of being the third largest exporter and the fourth largest producer of tea (Central Bank of Sri Lanka, 2015).The present study was conducted to identify the factors affecting tea consumption among local customers in urban areas. The consumption behavior of tea was studied in Ratmalana divisional secretariat area in Colombo district using primary data. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from 150 randomly selected customers at different supermarkets and cafes. Multiple linear regression analysis was employed to study the factors influencing the quantity of tea demanded (quantity of tea purchased) per month by the sample respondents. The study was focused on nine factors ( age, family size, family income, number of years of education, number of cups consumed per day, price, monthly tea expenditure, advertisements and health awareness) with respect to the quantity of tea purchased per month. The results revealed that 88.7% of the respondents were tea consumers and only about 11.3% of respondents were non tea consumers. The consumers purchased on an average about 756.39g of tea powder every month. Hence, they‟re willing to pay Rs. 99.67 on average for 100g of tea. Age, family size, monthly tea expenditure and health awareness were the most significant factors. Influence of advertisements was the least influential factor. 49.6% of respondents were 19-30 years old and this was the age category that mostly consumed tea. Watawala and Lipton were most preferred brands among the consumers. The findings of empirical research suggested that people are more health conscious and are less likely to be influenced by advertisements but rather be influenced by family members. There is a need for integrated advertisement and sales promo especially for those brands that have low demand.Item Hierarchy of leisure Constraints in semi urban communities Sri Lanka. With special Reference: Wewelduwa GN division(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Chandrathilaka, P.H.D.; Kalansooriya, J.The study was conducted to achieve few objectives. There are 1.To investigate Interpersonal constraints, 2.To examine intrapersonal constraints 3.To explore structural constraints. The Wewelduwa GN division was selected as the sample area.out of 570 household in the considered GN division it was selected 107 household associating systematic random sampling techniques. Likert scaled questionnaires were used to collect data from respondents, and tables, graphs and charts were used to present the data. Besides that factor analysis was associated to analysis the data and finally, could find 3 types of factors and with hierarchical order leading to leisure time activities with regard to the sample data. As the sample size was limited to 107 household the findings should be read accordable.Item Impact of Drugs Addiction to Rural Development in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Chathurangani, W.M.M.; Sakalasooriya, N.This paper describes the impact of drug addiction, alcoholism and smoking, at rural development process. In addition to the main objective of the study, it pays attention to find the factors for drug addiction in rural areas. This study scrutinizes the variations of drug addiction among children, elders, males and females. Drug abuse is one of the prominent problems which affect the country in many aspects including social, economic, and educational and health. The most highlighting issue with regard to drug abuse is that prisons in Sri Lanka accommodate approximately 40 percent of drug related offenders compelling the Government to spend large sums of money on them. So it has become a glaring problem for the country, both urban and rural, as they have become a burden to the country's economy and also to the society. The results of the study depicts that the drug addicted settlers of villages is a major threat for rural development because 75 percent of the respondents allocated more than half of their monthly income for alcohol and smoking. Though the government makes more taxes on drugs, there in not reduction of usage. In this situation, their families are more vulnerable to fulfil their basic needs. 95 percent of wives say that alcoholism and smoking is the major reason for their poor standard of living condition. All the respondents are aware about these drugs cause for health issues, and they want to take possible action to stop or reduce the addiction. The major problem is that there is still no proper mechanism to support them. The study is based on primary and secondary data and information. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected using semi-structured questionnaires, focused group discussions, field observations and key informant discussions. Pahala Kalankuttiya Grama Niladari Division of Galnewa Divisional Secretariat in Anuradhapura District has selected as the study area because this is one of the major drug addiction areas of Sri Lanka, and 50 families has been selected for sample survey. It was conducted 05 focused group discussions to collect the qualitative data, and both qualitative and quantitative data analyse techniques were applied.Item Impact of Environmental features on Recreation park demand (RPD) with special reference to Diyatha Park Sri Lanka(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Ariyathilaka, B.G.P.C.; Ramanayake, N.Recreational parks can be identified as place where the people enjoy their leisure time. Peoples those who already used the recreation product are impacted by various factors to make demand participation on recreation. It is proven by literature that people comes to recreation parks with the purposes of interrelationship, jogging, Exercising, physical fitness, get mental pleasure, spend their leisure time with joy…etc. Thus, recreational park identified following park settings, Green space, Open space, River front parkland, River trail, Natural flood plains, Wildlife pathways, Natural plants, and Natural landscape. The key objective this study was to identify environmental features‟ above mentioned impact on recreation park demand. It was intended to collect Primary data &Quantitative data. According, to this the sample selection show a “Diyatha uyana” part of main 03 categories. 200 people were selected as a sample. The sample was randomly selected. The questionnaire based on to cover the main 03 aspects of environmental features called Green space, Landscape & River Trails independent variables. The dependent variable of this study was “Participation” which was measured by time spent at the part during a week. It was based on chi-square tests & Cramer‟s V as an analytical tools. According to estimation after running the analysis it was proven that each dependent variable was statistically significance at 0.05 levels. On the other hand landscape was the variable which had comparatively higher association with Participation than other two variables.Item Impact of service quality on level of tourist satisfaction in Pinnawala elephant orphanage, Sri Lanka(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Kularathna, N.W.A.B.; Ashika, B.A.D.W.Currently most of tourists are attracted to wildlife tourism. The majority of tourist who are interested in wildlife are highly willing to watch and study animals by being closer to them. According to that, main purpose of this study was to identify the association between tourist satisfaction and service quality in Pinnawala Elephant orphanage. The specific objectives of this study was; identification of association between tourist satisfaction and reliability, tourist satisfaction and assurance, tourist satisfaction and tangibility, tourist satisfaction and empathy, tourist satisfaction and responsiveness. Build up two hypothesis to achieve the above objectives. There are H1 - There was a significant relationship between the five dimensions of service quality and tourist satisfaction, H0 - There isn‟t a significant relationship between the five dimensions of service quality and tourist satisfaction. There was one independent variable name as tourist satisfaction and there are five independent variables such as reliability, Assurance, Tangible, Empathy and Responsiveness. Stratified sample method using for select the sample and closed – ended questionnaire were used for data collection. Questionnaire were distributed through the 320 local and foreign tourist.The data was analysis from SPSS 21.0 usingcross tabulation and Pearson chi- square analysis. The findings of this study showed that each independent variable has significant positive relationship with tourist satisfaction. Accordingly, overall service quality bears a significant relationship with tourist satisfaction.Item Impact of Soft power usage by China and India in South Asia: case of Sri Lanka(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Weerasekera, W.K.N.; Gunasena, T.The concept of soft power instead of practicing hard power in international relations has become extremely popular in the contemporary global politics. In the twenty first century China is being on the spot light of the international politics in terms of its unique practice of power. Current relationship with Sri Lanka is a good example in the case of spreading Chines influence in the region through means of soft power. On the other hand China‟s strategically presence in the south Asian region has created security dilemmas to India by giving signals of a serious threat to its traditional stance being used towards its neighborhood. In the Sri Lankan point of view it has also become a serious challenge to the Sri Lankan government by moving on to a new pro Chinese policy from the diversified policy which had been followed for years. Therefore, the main objective of the study is to assess the domestic, regional and international impacts of soft power usage by China and India in Sri Lanka and to examine how far do China and India successful in soft power game strategies in Sri Lanka. The other objectives are the identification of the strategies used by China and India in order to influence Sri Lanka by means of soft power, determination of the nature of the triangular relationship among China, India and Sri Lanka and evaluation of the domestic, regional and international impacts of soft power usage by China and India in Sri Lanka. A content analysis method, using secondary data based on a review of existing literature on the issue and appropriate theories are used to achieve the obave objectives. Thus the findings of this study will benefit in developing new area of knowledge which will help the policy makers to drive their countries towards directions which will ensure their power status. Further researcher would hope that this study will encourage other researchers to explore more insights of soft power resources.Item Impact of Well - Being on Martial art participation of Karate Athletes in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Mudunkotuwa, M.A.S.D.; Ramanayeka, N.The main purpose of this study was to examine the impact of physical, psychological and social well-being on martial arts participation of karate athletes in Sri Lanka. The researcher carried out extensive literature review to provide conceptual background of the study and identified sports, various martial arts, benefits of participation in martial arts, various physical, psychological and social factors of well-being, and factors of affecting martial arts participation. 96 respondents were selected for this study as a sample and it was the whole population of the sample as well as National karate pool participation. There was dependent and independent variable. Questionnaire method used for collecting data. The associations between each pairs of variables are estimates using bivariate correlation analysis to test the hypothesis mentioned bellow. 1. There is an interrelationship between martial art participation and overall well-being of National pool athletes in Sri Lanka 2. There is an interrelationship between martial art participation and physical well-being of National pool athletes in Sri Lanka 3. There is an interrelationship between martial art participation and psychological well-being of National pool athletes in Sri Lanka 4. There is an interrelationship between martial art participation and social well-being of National pool athletes in Sri Lanka. The study establishedcorrelation coefficient values of participation and overall well-being was 0.04 (P< .05), participation and physical well-being was 0.006 (P< .05), participation and psychological well-being was 0.452 (P> .05), participation and social well-being was 0.065 (P< .05).Consideration of study findings it can be said that, there is an interrelationship between martial art participation and physical well-being and overall well-being (H1 and H2 accepted). There is no interrelationship between martial art participation and psychological well-being and social well-being (H3 and H4 rejected).Item An Inferential Study of the Impact of Gender on Intimate Partner Violence among Undergraduates (With references to University of Kelaniya)(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Hettige, N.Intimate partner violence (IPV) is considered a public health problem with physical, sexual and psychological consequences. The present study examined the prevalence of various forms of intimate partner violence among undergraduates at University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. Moreover, this report mainly examined the impact of biological gender differences on intimate partner violence victimization considering different forms of intimate partner violence, likewise, physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse and verbal abuse. Present study aims to describe the Gender Impact on prevalence of IPV among romantic Heterosexual partners studying in Social Sciences Faculty of University of Kelaniya. A pre-tested self- administered questionnaire on physical, sexual, psychological, and verbal abuse was given to 30 consenting undergraduates‟ couples, who are involved in heterosexual romantic relationship with the same partner for at least 06 months. Confidentiality of responses was assured and adequate privacy was provided for the questionnaires to be completed. Furthermore, the impact of gender on Intimate Partner Violence was analyzed using independent t-test and prevalence of victimization was ranked using mean averages. Majority of the 60(100%) participants were reported some form of violence victimization by their partner. Prevalence of abuse reported was psychological abuse 29.65%, verbal abuse 24.04%, physical abuse 23.34% and sexual abuse 22.95%. Although, from the analysis of the study it was shown that there is a high level of psychological abuse victimization as well as verbal abuse victimization among women than men which was appropriate in Sri Lankan environment. Conversely, there was no significant impact between gender and physical abuse or sexual abuse victimization within the Sri Lankan context. However, there was a significant difference in the level of IPV between males & female. Conclusion, Psychological, verbal and minor physical & sexual violence victimization is common in opposite-sex romantic relationships during early-adulthood. The sex-specific associations between socio-demographic characteristics like Gender and patterns of intimate partner violence victimization underscore the importance of pursuing longitudinal, theory- driven investigations of the characteristics and developmental histories of both partners in a couple to advance understanding of this public health problem. And as an advantage it will help undergraduates to improve their self-esteem and self-growth. Moreover mutual understanding between couples will enhance their healthy partner relationship bonds.Item Intermediate effect of tourist perception towards harassment on the relationship between tourist harassment and satisfaction(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Jayasiri, S.A.P.N.; Kalansooriya, J.Sri Lanka is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. As it contains mixture of breathing landscape, misty hills, rare unique wild life, rich cultural tradition and heritage, tropical weather as well as delightful beaches. Because Sri Lanka is a tropical island found in the deep blue waters of the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. However many tourists visiting Sri Lanka have to undergo many forms of harassment. The key objective of this study is to identify the contingency effect of tourist perception on harassment towards the relationship between tourist satisfaction and harassment. In additional here are three specific objectives viz.; 1). To identify the relationship between tourists harassment and tourist perception 2). To identify the relationship between tourists perception on harassment and tourist harassment 3). To identify the relationship between tourists‟ perception on harassment and tourists‟ satisfaction. The study was conducted using the mixed methodology and data collected from the different sources such questionnaire survey with tourists. Purposive sampling method was used to sample a total 50 foreign tourists from Mount Lavinia. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 21.0) was utilized to analyze the data from Ordinal Logic correlation. Descriptive statistics such as frequencies, percentages, and cross tabulations were calculated and presented using tables and graphs. The study revealed that the tourists who in Sri Lanka undergo harassment by different parties like tour guides, local vendors, beach boys etc. In addition to that the tourists face harassing situations due to the poor site management and the variation of the natural environment. The harassments create dissatisfaction among the tourists and it also affect for the future wellbeing of the tourism industry in Sri Lanka. The findings suggest that there is a positive relationship between tourist harassment, tourists‟ satisfaction and tourist perception on harassment.Item Negative Impacts of Facebook Social Media of Younger Generation’s Social Life; A Case from Sri Lanka(Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2015) Fonseka, W.U.C.; Sakalasooriya, N.The study reveals some of the negative impacts of Facebook social media for youths and their social life. This study has achieved three main objectives; (1) to identify the correlation between Facebook social media and, suicides, abuses, rapes and other crimes among youths in Sri Lanka; (2) to examine the real impact of Facebook for the crimes and abuses; (3) to suggest possible solution to minimize negative impacts of Facebook social media. Facebook is the most popular social networking website in the world. Social networking websites are specialized websites where people meet other people online and interact. They interact mostly in terms of sharing photos, videos and information about their day to day activities. The current Facebook statistics shows that the service has been used by more than 300 million users around the globe and 6 billion minutes are spent on Facebook each day. Even in Sri Lanka Facebook is the most popular social media. Unfortunately, according to the media reports, the Facebook is becoming a major reason for suicides, sexual abuses and other crimes in Sri Lanka. Therefore, some of community organizations and people requests to ban the Facebook in Sri Lanka. On the other side, some of intellectuals argue that there is no close relationship between these crimes and Facebook. The study is based on 06 most popularized cases which were happened in 2014 and 2015 in Sri Lanka. The both public and private media has reported that the major cause of these 06 cases is Facebook related incidents. The study has clearly pointed out that there is very law relationship between the cases and the Facebook. Final argument of the research is no significant negative impact between these two variables
