Item User Perception of E-Resources Provided by the Kelaniya University Library: a Case Study(3rd International Conference on Library and Information Management, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Perera, W.P.G.L.; Suraweera, S.A.D.H.N.This paper aims to identify user perception of the e-resources provided by the University of Kelaniya library with the responses of two user categories. They are students and the academic staff of the university. The study was conducted as a web-based survey method for the academic staff and manual data collection method for the students. The sampling method used for this study is stratified random sampling method to select students and academic staff members from the population. This study has considered participant from five faculties. This is on user perception of e-resources provided by the library. E-resource acquisitions have increased with relating to the users’ demand in academic libraries. That is important for an academic library to acquire and arrange e-resource. Compare to present and past learning styles, e-resources have a major role in the academic process. The university libraries are the main learning resource provider of the university. They have to have the capacity to identify relevant information sources both versions in physical and electronic. This has covered ten parts mainly under the topic of E-resources. They are Arrangements for existing learning resources to support e-learning, New acquisitions to support the e-learning, Available databases related to the various subjects taught at your university, Digital library to support learning and teaching by sharing experts' research experiences and publications, Searching and evaluation facilities through the library website, Electronic resource access and sharing (online), Evaluation of e-resource facilities through the faculty CAL, Access for the university subscribed e-journals, e-books, databases and other course materials, both within and outside the university premises, the self-learning supportive videos / PPT and guidelines provided by the library, the preservation of the electronic resource, and provision to access digitized archives at your libraryItem Impact of E-Learning on Library and Information Services: a Study(3rd International Conference on Library and Information Management, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Dangi, R. K.; Saraf, S.ICT dominated all spheres of life. The ICT has very special impact on education. This impact of ICT is noticeable in formal and informal education, traditional and professional education as well as at all levels of education. The most recent influence of the ICT in the field of education is recognized as elearning. During the last few years it has been seen, an almost exponential growth of the digitization and e-resources. The present paper covers concept of e-learning, need of e-learning, characteristics and advantages of e-learning, tools of e-learning, impact of e-learning on Library and information services. E-learning lessons are generally designed to guide students through information or to help students perform in specific tasks. Information based e-Learning content communicates information to the studentItem Factors Affecting the Effective Usage of Learning Management System:With reference to Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura(4th International Conference on Social Sciences 2018, Research Centre for Social Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Senevirathne, H.P.D.B.; Weerasena, U.M.Learning Management System (LMS), is highly regarded in all higher education institutes as one of the most effective means of communication. A paradigm shift from traditional to student centered learning has been catered through LMS since it is a mode of e-learning. Despite the many advantages provided to the education sector, LMS requires its users to have the required technology, facilities, knowledge as well as positive attitude towards being technology oriented to better utilize LMS. However, in absence of those requirements being fulfilled, the advantages of having such a system become dormant. Thus, the main objective of this study is to find out whether there are such factors by which the effective usage of LMS is affected in Sri Lankan State Universities. The target population has been further narrowed down to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of University of Sri Jayewardenepura. A questionnaire was circulated among randomly selected 354 undergraduates from all the four years. The results of this study show that every student has a means of accessing internet but, the majority use LMS only several times per month. Nonetheless, LMS is frequently used to download lecture materials while uploading assignments and online quizzes are the other two reasons to use LMS, other than to fulfill the first year Compulsory English course requirements. Though majority expressed that using LMS is an easy way to create a liaison between undergraduates and the lecturers/lecture materials, they also agreed that there are factors that affect LMS usage. According to the factor analysis, three main factors have been identified. They are; lack of awareness on LMS, fear of technology and the less concern of majority of lecturers to use LMS. Thus, according to this study, though LMS is used in the selected context, not all the features but a few included in the system are used in the teaching learning process. Furthermore, though the importance of LMS is felt, the factors affect the usage have minimized the effectiveness of LMS. Yet, through minimizing those factors, LMS can be used to create a platform for open learning equally to all undergraduatesItem Online Tools for Research and Data Collection: An Overview(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Dhanavandan, S.This paper is discusses about the online survey tools for data collection in research. The online survey tool will allow you to easily define the survey questions and the possible responses using an online interface.
