    Collaboration Process between the Department of Library and Information Science and the Main Library: a Case Study based on University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka

    Collaboration is the process which any organization in society can engage based on mutually agreed policies and practices with any other organization or group of organizations. Without a proper collaboration with other allied bodies and the profession of Library and Information Science (LIS), the Department of Library and Information Science (DLIS), University of Kelaniya is unlikely to keep up with these developments and deliver a good education and service in line with the international standards of teaching, research and information management. As a very good example, the establishment of DLISs in the main libraries in certain Indian university can be demonstrated. Professor Ranganathan was the creator of this concept. In that situation, building a good collaboration is very valuable for both the DLIS and with other related institutions specially the Main Library, University of Kelaniya. According to these situations the principle purpose of this paper is to study the collaboration process between the DLIS and the Main Library University of Kelaniya. The other objective are to explore what are the collaborative activities conducted by both institutes, to identify additional collaborative activities they can start, to examine what are the barriers for collaboration and to explore how such collaborative activities would impact for student academic and moral success. Method adopted is a case study followed by mixed research approach hence primary qualitative and quantitative data will be collected conducting interviews with both academic staff at the DLIS and the Main Library, of University of Kelaniya library. Focus group discussion method will also be used for further collecting data and information related to study. Secondary sources like DLIS and the Main Library records and reports will be given much impact for the study when secondary data collection. Results, findings and conclusions will be used for effective functioning of the collaboration between DLIS and Main Library.

    Fundamental Bibliometric Analysis on the Library Literature Related to Library Collaboration in Sri Lanka

    A library plays a significant role in promoting the progression of knowledge. However, in certain instances the library may fail to serve its primary purpose due to the impotence of providing access to resources of information and services to meet the demand of individuals. Therefore, information exchange and networking has become an essential factor in library services. The main objective of this study is to identify the current situation of library co-operation and resource sharing in Sri Lanka. In addition, it highlights the importance of library collaboration and examines the various means of collaboration between libraries and information centers implemented in Sri Lanka. A review was done based on the research publication like articles and dissertation published in the area of library cooperation in Sri Lanka. Therefore bibliographic analysis was done based on these publications which cater in the area of library collaboration in Sri Lanka

    Identification of Obstacles in Implementing the Inter-Library Cooperation among the Sri Lankan University Libraries: A Case Study.

    Library is place which information, human resource, funds, space, library materials, tools, techniques etc. are necessary for the provision of its services to communities. However, owing to the scarcity of such resources, libraries are compelled to engage with inter library cooperation activities in developed, developing and under-developed countries. Therefore, inter library cooperation has become a universal phenomenon and the principal objective of this paper is to investigate the obstacles faced by the university libraries in inter-library cooperation activity. The survey method was applied for achieving the aims of this research. Primary data collected using questionnaires and interviews. According to the study, three libraries of universities used as a sample. There are, University of Peradeniya, University of Colombo, and University of Kelaniya. Here population categorized as in to two parts. As first part is to choose staff crew in the main libraries of Peradeniya, Colombo and Kelaniya universities. As second part is 75 final year students who are studying in the Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Management and Faculty of Science covering of all three universities. The data which acquired by questionnaires analyzed using Ms Excel software. The tables, charts and the bar charts presented data. As conclusions, it can be identified there are lot of obstacles such as Each and every university acts as separate independent body. All the university libraries, should not follow a unique procedure. Inter library cooperation is not much efficient and successful. No proper leadership for university libraries. Influence of security principles, followed by librarians. Lack of specialists, who have specific knowledge on new technology in this field. Minimum financial supports for this field. Prevailing in the process of the inter library cooperation.
