Working in the context of exclusion through different forms of social media ostracism at the workplace has become a major issue and an important predictor of psychological climate for employee well-being. The research investigates this phenomenon through two key dimensions: the part played by Variables: avoidance and social media exclusion, on the emotional exhaustion experienced by the employees. The present study was, therefore, a quantitative study in terms of the research approach, and data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to IT professionals in the Colombo District. Only Company Employees at the operational Level are included in these 620 populations. 244 sample size is selected through Simple random sampling technique. Employing correlation and regression analysis, the collected data was used to establish the effects of social media ostracism on employee emotional exhaustion. As such, the findings show there is statistically significant positive impact between social media ostracism and employee emotional exhaustion. Afterward, both the dimensions, avoidance and social media exclusion, were also established to predict ‘emotional exhaustion’. The current paper adds to the scarce research regarding the psychological effects of technology-mediated communication in the Sri Lankan IT industry and provides practical implications for enhancing the psychological well-being of employees.
