    The Extension Services Operating In Public Libraries of Sri Lanka: In Colombo District.

    The principal purpose of this paper is to explore the situation of the extension services provided by the public libraries in Sri Lanka. In this context, the extension services operating in public libraries of Sri Lanka were studied through five libraries selected among public libraries in Colombo district. During this study, active operation and qualitative status of extension services of different public libraries were taken into o consideration and presented about new tendencies, contribution of physical and human resources for development, service to the society, challenges and means of overcoming them of extension services. In this study, the research method was the survey method. Questionnaires, interviews and observation methods were used for the survey. Principally, information was gathered from librarians through questionnaires. In general, extension service are operated in a fair stage in public libraries. Seminars, lectures, discussion forums, users educating programs, users societies, movies, mobile library service and other extension services are offered by the public libraries. User education is in a good condition, however, user participation and use of novel technology are in a medium state. protection of culture of general public in this area is contributed by public libraries and they related extension services are being developed a proper methodology to access extension services in needed to be organized. It is required to take necessary steps to fulfill lapse of financial, physical and human resources which are essential for providing extension services, the need of efficient and trained library staff with latest knowledge could be achieved through preparing policies and planes for extension services. Use of new latest technologies, providing assistances and guidance to public libraries by national libraries, and provision of state assistances to the public libraries are essential for this mean.

    The Way of Using Social Media Networks for Current Awareness Services

    Social Media networks are very famous informativesources at present when comparing with other technologies. The purpose of this research is to examine the usage of to social media networks to promote Library and Information resources in between librarians and patrons in Sri Lankan as current awareness services. Current Awareness Services help to library for notifying library services to researches and other persons who need information. Presently, there are more social media networks in the world. Some examples are Face book, twitter, likened, Google +, you tube. Face book Social media networks are used by 1,100 100 100 peoples in the current world meanwhile the Face book is most popular network in Sri Lanka too. Therefore current awareness services which containing CAS list" Content pages services" Periodical Circulation" Paper cutting services" Accession list and the notification of fourth coming conversion and Research in progress are used by the librarians. Nevertheless public, schools, University and special librarians paylmeagerattention for these methods. The sole intention of this evaluattion is to notify the knowledge and information to promote CAS services by using social media. According to the study, although theSri Lankan libraries are connecting with social media but not more with CAS services. Some of libraries used to use social media networks under the friend groups, pages and ask a librarian. Therefore librarians have to be promoted to use this technology to notify library activities for patrons.

    Library Technologies for Teaching Learning and Research

    As the internet and web technologies are gaining momentum in terms of knowledge generation, organization and dissemination with most convenient and economic form, it is imperative for libraries to elope with tech savvy users to make use of range of technologies towards information management. As emphasized by Dr. S. R. Ranganathan “Right Information at Right Time in Right Personnel way”, the present day libraries need not only to disseminate information but also enable the end users towards knowledge analytics. The present study aimed at identifying and assessing the appropriate library technologies that are useful and practice among the libraries of national and international repute towards knowledge sharing and dissemination. The technologies such as Reference Management systems, Research Profile management tools, Library Web designing, Web Casting and Pod Casting tools, the multimedia, the e-learning tools, Content Management System (CMS), Learning Management System (LMS), the web and mobile apps can be leveraged with library technology towards provision of more customized, personalized knowledge dissemination through online and remote. The paper also describes how this Z generation tools enable the libraries to attract and satisfy both digital users. The paper also analyze the role of library classics, the knowledge organization principles towards integrating mobile technologies to perceive high quality information and knowledge inputs. A good number of libraries have been adopted some of these library 2.0 and library 3.0 tools and techniques but there is a gap prevailed between technology poor and technology rich libraries. By evolving a common and open access technology enabled library practices would solve the problem and strive the libraries to reach the unreached.
