The questionnaire and interview were used as instruments in this study to collect data. The study revealed that the public libraries of Polonnaruwa District are not in the correct position by collection development. It also pointed out the most of the libraries are administered by the non-professional staffs. The major challenger was examined that library staffs are not in the good satisfaction level about their promotion mechanism. In a global context, effective use of ICT is an essential for the success of businesses especially in entrepreneurial sector. Entrepreneurs are extremely important to the Economy in any country whether it is developed or developing. The objective of this research was to understanding the ICT competence among Entrepreneurs & its impact on success of their businesses. The Research was carried out in Divisional Secretariat Matara district. This study was based on quantitative and qualitative strategy; it has employed both primary and secondary sources. Primary data were collected through semi-structured interviews, focus group discussion and direct observation. Semi-Structured interviews have been conducted for the selected sample entrepreneurs from the town which was selected by purposive sampling. Observation was also utilized to collect primary data concerning how the businesses operate and the extent of ICT application. Secondary data were collected through annual reports and journals which were published by the Matara District Chamber of Commerce (MDCC). The findings of the study showed that the level of ICT has positive relationship with success of their business. Most of the Entrepreneurs having ambitions of expanding their sales area; acknowledge that the benefits of implementing ICT, but for various reasons this meets different obstacles. These obstacles may vary from the level of knowledge of ICT, financial barriers, access and opportunities and educational background. Information Technology enabled services fulfill the information needs of the users at the right time in the right place to the right person.Item Contribution of National Libraries in Dissemination of Knowledge in Developing Countries: Challenges and Opportunities(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Dilinika, J.M.S.National libraries play a vital role as knowledge centers for their nations. Mandate of the national libraries is to collect, preserve, and provide access to heritage content and materials about the nation and the wider region. In this context, libraries are introducing variety of knowledge dissemination services for their local and global community. With the invention of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), libraries nowuse different types of technologies to disseminate the knowledge. This paper investigates the recent changes to provide access to knowledge in National Libraries in developing countries. This was measured using library websites and scholarly literature focusing on information services, purposes, and recent problems. The sample consisted of 10 national libraries of developing countries. The results indicate that the ICT has become an integral part of the library.Computing technology, communication technology and mass storage technology are some of the areas of continuous development that reshape the way that libraries access, retrieve, store, manipulate and disseminate information to users. Digitization, enhance user access, legal demands, infrastructure facilities and etc could be identified as recent problems. Libraries in developed countries are highly competitive and advanced through information and communication technology. Within this competitive background many libraries in developing countries need further development strategies based on ICT to overcome these difficulties. This research provides recommendations to provide a discussion in order to modernize libraries in to the 21st century.
