Item Global Perspective Research Productivity on Swine Flu: A Scientometric Study.(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Duraipandi, R.; Aravind; Rao, N.Scientometrics is a method to measure quantitative output of all branches of sciences and social sciences. Today, it is very popular area of study in library and information science. An analysis of 958 publications published by scientists on Swine Flu during 1991-2014 (19 years) which indexed in Web of Science universal Database indicates the publications in the global perspectives. Swine Flu is a highly contagious acute respiratory disease of pigs, caused by one of the several strains of swine influenza A. The virus is spread among pigs by aerosols, through direct and indirect contact, and also by asymptomatic carrier pigs. The highest numbers of papers were published during the year 2009 with 270 (28.2%) records and ranked at top; the year 2010 has scored 243 (25.4%) and the year 2011 has scored 187(19.6%) of publication and ranked at third. Overall, 3172 authors were contributed 501 publications in the journal and cited reference with 16467 records of the articles. The average citation per item is 9.43 and the h- index is 44 with LCS 583; GCS 8983; CR 16467.Item Emerging Trends of Future Library and Information Services Leadership in 21st Century(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Duraipandi, R.Library is a growing organism forever and the leadership the skills are a vital element in positioning executives to make thoughtful decisions about their organization's mission and goals and suitably allot resources to accomplish those directives. Precious leadership skills include the capacity to delegate, inspire and communicate effectively.Library professions arenow forced to decide tactically important decision on chain management. The library leadership development becomes very vital to guaranteed for leaders for their organisation and at present the nature of duties and services are took tremendous changes for librarianship in time to time. Besides the advancement of technologies, ICT applications and internet paved the pivotal role to attract the users became the knowledge society, where adopted the new inventions and innovations very sharply. Librarians must understand the new behaviorand attitudes of the users to handle with care towards to survive this profession. To face these challenges of library services, it is needed and indeed that real leadership skill for libraries to reshape the future to thrive and grow further. This paper describes the emerging leadership skills required for 21st century library leaders based on the changing perspectives of the new knowledge society to address them exactly. It also explainshow to develop the core leadership skills which need to move this profession well into the 21st century as a great library leader.Leadership development programs are required in high demand today and certainly inevitable for future.Item Green Library Initiatives in India: Reshaping the Future(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Duraipandi, R.Around the world Green library practices are witnessed and impressed for improved library services. The “greening” initiatives of India’s building construction industry received heighten and ranked at 3rd among the top 10 counties in the world outside USA. While the emerging concept of green library or sustainable library in India has to travel long road to reshape the library buildings to meet out the next generation user’s behavior and expectations. A library has to plan and built with ecological aspects of any new/renovation of buildings of libraries to prevent the negative environmental impacts of carbon footprint and to ensure the improved future library services at the maximum of available resources efficiently, effectively with user friendly within the building. The paper mainly focuses on few green library initiatives in India under the green library movement and highlighted the main parameters which involved for location selection, water and energy conservation, building materials and indoor and outdoor air quality etc, under Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), LEED-Leadership in Energy and Environment Design. Finally, it suggests the feasible idea of buildings with locally available with less costs materials. The trend in India is not only growing in numbers but also extends breadth and lengthily across the country is an notable to reshape the buildings to save the mankind which India is facing recently the environmental problems of climate change, global warming and air pollutions severely.
