dc.description.abstract Mass media is of huge positive impact for the development of a developing country. Moreover, media contributes a lot to globalization. Television has a significant place among other media as it is an audio-visual media. Some critique state it as the third parent. Every media translates and presents foreign literary texts, teledramas, films and other creations. Therefore, it bridges up the gap between people and culture. A uniqueness can be seen in the connection in printed, audio and audio-visual media. Translating a foreign text into mother tongue, and accordingly uplift the appreciation of the viewers is a challenge in dubbing. It is a very complex deal with different ages, professions, and social status, to attract the audience. The aim of this study is to analyze the challenges of teledrama dubbing. From the past, there was the process of translating and presenting it to an audience in a way it suits them. Dubbing is successfully done worldwide and this dissertation analyses teledrama dubbing. Dubbing helps audience to enjoy foreign literary texts in their mother tongue. Moreover, one special thing is that, dubbing helps to introduce writers of world’s literature to visual media. Introducing R. K. Narayan via Malgudidawasa dubbed teledrama can be cited as an example. Further, this dissertation analyses how the audience is led to entertainment meaningfully with a low cost, which is a challenging task. It costs a lot to purchase audio visual productions in a country like Sri Lanka, but one could dub a universally appreciated text and present it to audience with a high quality of entertainment with a low cost. There should be a series of artistic features in dubbing foreign dramas. Then artists with talents come forward. They are introduced in a new way of talents and skills. They also can be given professional opportunities, which helps to produce dubbing artists. Even that can act as a solution for unemployment issue in a developing country like Sri Lanka.
