Abstract: This paper discusses the empowerment of theatre education (Tamil) in Sri Lanka. Education is said to deal with the development of the whole person; mind, feeling or emotion and body. Drama and Theatre Arts as a practical oriented study is specially useful since learning theatre skills is more prevalent than any other aspect in this field of study. As per the observation of teaching and learning outcomes of Drama and Theatre Arts in lower, secondary and higher educational levels, the objectives of the teaching seem to have deviated from the expected outcome of the study. This may be identified by review of the curriculum, discussion with the teachers of the Drama and Theatre Arts and the learners of Drama and Theatre Arts in lower secondary and higher educational levels. The curriculum may be appropriately revised with the understanding of the comparison of the other established institutions, understanding the contextual needs of Drama and Theatre Arts and identifying the gaps in the teaching and learning process by discussing with the teachers and learners. As it is a practical component the knowledge and skills are very important to act, direct and design for theatre. Especially for the enhancement of the skills, there may be consistently organized theatre workshops concentrated in specific areas of study according to the demands of the curriculum.
