dc.description.abstractThe research primarily focuses its attention on exploring the need of having a code of ethics for the development of sports in general. As a result sports will be a productive and support for the socio-economic development process in Sri Lanka. The concept of 'Sport' is universal in its nature therefore the application of rules in sports is also universal. The binding element of the concept of 'Sport' needs to be addressed in number perceptions. Defeating the opponent and the will to win at any cost are regarded as one of the distractive elements of sport today. Therefore the need of having a well structured code of ethics for sports' is stressed by a number of researchers. A number of sport organizations and sporting nations place the ethical frame to protect sport at present than in the past and will be crucial to the development of sports. The paper recognizes the need of having separate codes for each game using primary and secondary data, Moreover the paper identifies that the knowledge ethics for the coaches, athletes, sports' officials and referees should be grown for the successful development of sports.en_US
