Abstract: Objective of this study was to identify the capabilities and constraints behind introducing Community Policing as a new philosophy in restructuring Sri Lanka Police service from a traditional problem solving approach to community oriented service. Even though it is highly acclaimed that the necessity of a community partnership model for the modern policing practice there are many orthodox challenges which obstacle to this new approach so that internal management of the Sri Lanka Police institution should be totally changed towards a democratic and non-feudalistic form of fair environment in order to adopt this innovative philosophy to the said institution, would effectively gained considerable productivity to the police service as well as local community.
