Abstract: Reading comprehension strategies are one of the most important parts of learning strategies. There are many research strategies on verbal and listening strategies in both local and foreign settings. However, there are few studies on reading comprehension strategies. Scholars have recognized the importance of reading comprehension strategies and accordingly, finding a set of reading training strategies for Sri Lankan students through the study of student learning strategies in Sri Lanka is a problem that needs to be addressed. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to find the most important reading comprehension strategy that many people use during the exam. The co-objective of the study is to investigate the Chinese reading strategies used by High marks students during the New Chinese Proficiency Test and this study mainly explores the use of reading comprehension strategies by Chinese majors at the University of Kelaniya to gain student's reading comprehension. This study was conducted with the participation of 60 students who passed HSK 3 Or HSK 4 who are studying Chinese as a major in the modern language department of the University of Kelaniya. An online survey was conducted to collect the data through Google Forms Researcher used a quantitative approach for the data analyzation. The data were analyzed using MS Excel through descriptive statistics. Among the overall 21 reading strategies, the most frequent used reading strategy is "When answering the question, first read the question and see the paragraphs related to the question". The least frequent used reading strategy is "I read the first line and the last line, then go back and read the whole paragraph. It is intended to enhance the reading ability of the candidates, improve their reading ability and hope that the candidates will get better results from reading comprehension tests.
