dc.description.abstractThere are some evidence, based on past research, that service of police had not been successful in terms of awareness, participation, and impact in communities of Sri Lanka. As a solution for that the police department has started a valuable policy which called as “Community Policing”. Community policing is a policy that requires police to inherit a proactive approach to address public safety concerns. Community policing recognizes that police cannot solve every public safety problems alone, so interactive partnerships must be create. According to this policing concept uses the public for developing problem-solving solutions. The hypothesis which used in this study is that people have less awareness of community policing in Sri Lanka. It is very important to have enough awareness of community policing among public to secure peace and law. The main objective of this research is to examine the public awareness about community policing. In this study, a special attempt will be made to sufficient examined the nature of the community policing which had not been covered by previous studies. The sample of this study will be randomly selected people who are living in Kurunegala police division. For this study, survey method will be used to collect data and also comparative method will be utilized. A questionnaire method, interview method and an observation method will be used to collect data; in additionally, secondary data will be used. Both primary sources and secondary sources will be consulted. Interviews and questionnaires will be the leading source and additional data will be collected from research reports, reference sources and internet.en_US
