Abstract: This study conducted to find social status, social acceptance and job satisfaction of teacher librarians in Sri Lanka: special reference to National schools in Gampaha district. Based on four objectives, this research was conducted. The main objective of this research is to identify the social status of the Teacher Librarians. Other objectives of the research are to identify the social acceptance of the Teacher Librarians, to evaluate the job satisfaction among the Teacher Librarians and to identify the barriers and obstacles of the Teacher Librarians. Survey method used for this study. The primary data for this study was collected through a structured questionnaire. Sample was Teacher Librarians in 5 schools in the Gampaha district. The results indicate that all librarians are satisfied with their job and most of them are well qualified for the profession. There is a high acceptance for librarian as a teacher from staff and students of the school but only 60% of librarians were invited for all functions and programme in the school. Social status and social acceptance of teacher librarian is very low in outside the school. Developing ethics and attitudes of public, organizing awareness programme for public to describe the profession of teacher librarian, establishing professional organization of teacher librarians, conducting training program and workshops for librarians to develop their knowledge and personality are some major suggestions to fill these inconsistencies.
