Ancient epigraphic records of Bihar are one of the major sources of the study of ancient scenario of the state. In this aspect, the study of numismatic references to the epigraphic records is highly recommendable. The present paper attempts to reveal the proper nomenclature of coins prevailing on the land of ancient Bihar through the study of ancient epigraphic records of the state. Studies have revealed several terminologies of numismatic which were in circulation during different periods. Those nomenclatures are Karshapana, Dinar and Dram. It has been accepted commendably that the coinage system of ancient Bihar was very strong from the early dates of coinage of India. However, though the references of coins on the epigraphic records of the state are available, these references are very low in number. This point becomes significant while studying the coinage system of Bihar in detail.en_US
