Abstract

Introduction In Sri Lanka, tendency to look for friends called “MITHURU HAWULA” can be seen almost every nook and corner of the country, Sri Lanka in such places as Anuradhapura, Katunayaka, Dekatana, Matara and Rambukkana. This being a way finding and associating with friends, it is worthwhile to study the psychological basic of the motivation behind the behaviours of this nature and the nature of of male and female motivation for “MITHURU HAWULA”. Therefore the current study tried to identify the psychological basis of people’s looking for friends through MITHURU HAWULA and find the differences available in this motivation. Objectives The current research consisted of two main objectives 1. To identify what motivation people for “MITHURU HAWULA” 2. To find the differences in male and female motivation for “MITHURU HAWULA” Methodology For the study, 20 participants (ten male participants and ten female participants) who were already the members of the MITHURU HAWULA were employed as sample. To collect data Telephone interviews, as apparatus, were used individually. Results & Conclusion As the results of the current research, it was able to come to conclusions that such motives as love, finance, sex, isolation, friendship could be found as motives for looking for friends through MITHURU HAWULA and there was a difference in male and female motivation to look for friends through “MITHURU HAWULA”.
