dc.description.abstract The French and English languages possess numerous linguistic relations irrespective of the different origins. French language originates from the Indo-European language family and inherits the characteristics of the Romance languages and English language on the other hand was influenced by Germanic language in the early 5th century owing to the invasions of England by Germanic tribes. Therefore, it is surprising to observe the correlation shared between these two languages born in different motherlands. Most similarities can be observed in French and English in the domains of grammar and vocabulary. During the Norman invasion of Britain in the 11th century French language became the medium of communication of the high classes and consequently a large number of French words were ingested by English vocabulary. Not only vocabulary but also the grammar in both languages share similarities. The French vocabulary is visible in every field such as government, law, art and Literature. Moreover there are ample of English words that are derived directly or indirectly from French and it is visible in certain situations that the people who have never studied French already know and use a considerable amount of French words. In this research I attempt to put into lime light the similarities between French and English languages under the categories of vocabulary and Grammar with the intention of identifying the similarities in the vocabulary which could be helpful for the students who study French for specific purposes(Franais sur Objectifs Spcifiques (FOS) and the similarities in French and English grammar rules which could be helpful for the students who learn French as a foreign language (Franais Langue trangre (FLE) . In doing the study I collect relevant data through the books, internet, magazines and the interviews conducted to get the information from the relevant public en_US
