Item Sustainable Solutions for Drinking Water Problem in the City of Matara(International Postgraduate Research Conference 2019, Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Ranasinghe, W.C.; Sakalasooriya, N.This study emphasizes how to give a sustainable solution for drinking water problems and how to manage water resources in the Matara city using a sustainable water management system. The main objectives of this research are to identify drinking water issues, identify the main causes behind drinking water issues and suggest sustainable ways to protect drinking water resources in Matara Municipal Council Area because it has been the main hub of Development plan of Matara District. A mixed methodology has been applied for the research. Both Primary and secondary data were collected to achieve the research objectives. A questionnaire survey and interviews have been conducted. Beside them, secondary data sources such as maps, institutional data, and previous research reports will be referred for higher accuracy. According to the first part of the research has identified the major issues of drinking water in the City of Matara, The River Nilwala is the main source for the supply of pipe born water for the Matara municipal area. Water is taken for treatment at the intakes of Nadugala, Kadduwa and Balukawala pumping station to the treatment plants at Nadugala and Malimbada and treated in conformity with the prescribed standards. The treated water is then delivered by the storage tanks. Seventeen water tanks supply water to Matara. People who lived in the Matara Municipal Council area they don’t have the volume of water needed for daily consumption. A major aspect of the water crisis in Matara that purified drinking water is used for every kind of water requirement of households. The population growth in the Matara town is expected to increase in the future and the water resources should increase. Clean drinking water is the well-being in terms of health and economy. Ensuring access to clean water service is the first step in eliminating poverty and essential for the overall economic and social development of a country. Therefore in the second step will focus on sustainable solutions for the drinking water issue of the City of MataraItem Mediating the Effect of Working Capital on the Relationship between Entrepreneurship Education and Small Business Management in Gombe State(19th Conference on Postgraduate Research, International Postgraduate Research Conference 2018, Faculty of Graduate Studies,University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Jibir, A.; Ahmed, I.; Bakari, M.A.; Abdullahi, S.This study is embarked upon to examine the effect of entrepreneurship education on small business management mediated by the size of working capital available to the small businesses in Gombe metropolitan city in Gombe state, Nigeria. The study aimed at examining whether size of working capital of small businesses will mediate the relationship between entrepreneurship education and small business management. This study is important because researches conducted indicated that entrepreneurship education alone did not influence small business management in Gombe state but by introduction of working capiatal as a mediator a very significant influence resulted of entrepreneurship education on small business management. Two hundred and sixteen (216) questionnaires were administered to fifty (50) small businesses managers in Gombe so as to ascertain their perception in this regard. The study applied simple random sampling. Data were interpreted and analysed using Multiple Regression technique. The major findings of the study showed that there is a strong relationship between entrepreneurship education and small business management and that working capital serves as a good mediator between the dependent and independent variables of this study (i.e. the higher the size working capital available to small business managers the higher the effect of entrepreneurship education on small business management success and vice-vasa). The study further availed that entrepreneurs in Gombe State does not have adequate access to working capital at their disposal which will pave ways for exploiting their business opportnities The paper recommended that federal and state government should gear more efforts in providing access to soft loans to increase chances to small businesses to enable them increase working capital for successful business management, economic growth and development. U. P.At the convention of the UNEP- 2015, world countries adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to create a platform for a unitary state by eliminating social, economic and environmental challenges that will lead to global development through the accomplishment of the present needs without compromising the ability of the future generation to meet their own needs with the applicability for all countries of the world. As a member of the UNO, India is also committed to implementing the SDGs, which have developed to cover more aspects of development. Although India is also included in the top five countries of the world‘s fastest growing economies, inequality and poverty remain a significant problem across the country, which is a great challenge in order to achieve the highest level of social development, amidst the traditional attitudes of Indians. It can be identified that practical usage of SDGs such as eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, gender inequality etc. can be found within the Hindi short-story ra:ni: mã: ka: cəbu:təra: of prominent female Hindi writer,mənnu: bhəɳda:ri:. The main protagonist of this short-story, g ս la:bi:is a poor woman, who reveals that there is a need to re-structure the thoughts of anti-pauperism not by lamping for god for the sake of our lives, but by utilizing our native spirits to prosper the lives of the present and future generations. Hence she was harbored and oppressed by both male and female societies as a result of conventional and traditional attitudes of the maledominant society of India towards the women. Through this,g ս la:bi: emphasized that sustainable development of human resources depends on the proper management of individual spirits of human beings which is one of five broad areas that has been focused in the SDGs. The objective of this study is to analyze the applicability of the SDGs depicted in the Hindi short-story ra:ni: mã: ka: cəbu:təra:. This study was done through literary reviews based on sustainable development and this is important to reveal the contribution of literary creations to explicate the sustainable development to the society and encourage such literary creations.Item Knowledge Regarding Childhood Diarrhoea among Mothers Having Children Under the Age of Five Years in Batticaloa District(Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Begam, A.G.W.; Karthijekan, K.; Kartheepan, K.; Genoosha, N.; Mythreye, T.; Kajananthan, K.; Costha, L.A.M.U.; Hasanthika, M.A.W.; Priyadarshan, N.W.P.I.Diarrhoea is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality among Children under the age of five in all over the world, special in developing countries. The main aim of this study was to assess the mothers’ knowledge regarding childhood diarrhea. A community based Cross- Sectional study was conducted among 252 mothers by structured interview administer questionnaire from January to October 2015. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to select study areas and units. Among the 252 mothers Hindus, Housewives, Senior Secondary education, Mothers had 1-3 children were 76.6%, 83.7%, 51.2% and 95.2% respectively. The health care workers (83.7%) and community (67.7%) were the main sources of information. Majority (77%) of mothers had heard about diarrhoea as a disease. 87.3% knew the correct meaning of diarrhea. Just above half (53.6%) of the mothers had very good knowledge regarding the causes and risk factors of diarrhea such as contaminated food and drink (93.7%), unhygienic environment (84.5%), Contact the patient with diarrhoeal disease (71.4%) and Worm infestation (51.2%). Less than half of mothers (44.8%) had very good knowledge about important signs and symptoms of diarrhea such as frequent Watery stool (97.6%), Thirsty (88.1%), Dry skin (66.1%) and Oliguria (46.4%). Out of total respondents, 62.7% had very good knowledge about consequences of diarrhea such as Lethargy (97.2), weight loss (92.5%) and Dehydration (80.6%). Majority of mothers (96.4%) had very good knowledge regarding prevention of diarrhea such as use of clean water (98%), proper hand washing (98%) and proper feces disposal (97.6%). The knowledge of the mothers had significant relationship with their age, educational level, and number of children, occupation, family income and sources of knowledge. Although mothers had good awareness regarding causes, signs and symptoms and prevention of diarrhoea, they were less in some specific areas.
