Poverty is an issue to be highlighted of its paramount influence on global development. Education is a committed cause of the prevalence of poverty. Many scholars agree with the fact that there is a cyclical relationship between poverty and education. In making efforts to alleviate poverty, it is worth studying the low standard of education in the district of Kegalle within placed at the 6th amongst the districts confronted by poverty in Sri Lanka. It reveals that there is a significant relationship between poverty and education. The main objective of this research is to realize how the low level of education promotes poverty and how poverty can be an important cause to culminate in ineffective educational achievements. Deraniyagala Divisional Secretariat Division shows a rate of 11.36% in its poverty indication. 50 families have been selected as a sample population and they are benefitted by the Samurdhi Development scheme. Qualitative and quantitative methods have been employed to analyze the above data. The researcher could notice that the major wage earner’s low education has affected to increase poverty and following the rate of his or her income, the children tend to face issues in education. Poverty has also caused less educational performance among students. The research confirms several measures that need to be adopted to reduce poverty: a process to uplift the level of income of the family, implementation of projects to increase educational performance to a satisfactory level and directing the school leavers to vocational education.

(Department of Geography, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) Lakmal, D.K.K; Arunashantha, H.A.S
Sri Lanka is a country self-sufficient in agriculture. Accordingly, the modernization of paddy cultivation was accompanied by the green revolution of the 20th century and the development of different agro-sectors. The use of machinery, advanced agricultural croup, insecticides, and fertilizers have been linked to paddy farming through modern technology. Despite the 21st century, there are still other bad results. Similarly, According, this research will investigate the impact of modern technology on rice farming. Wahalkada tank and Padaviya tank for D2 and D4 villages and yaya “A” and yaya “C” villages in Kabithigollawa Grama Niladhari Division selected as a sampling area. The sample consists of 40 randomly selected farmer families which are 10 farmer families from each village. Information is sought through a questionnaire and interviews. The data is analyzed and processed using Microsoft Excel, which is converted to a graph and table using Excel. As well as GIS techniques used to identify the spatial distribution of paddy cultivation. The sample from the survey shows that not all farmers have access to the latest technology. Therefore, the lack of personnel to provide this technology, the cost of modern machinery and agricultural materials have contributed to this. This survey shows that farmers are using unused fertilizer in the market due to the high cost of agricultural products. As a result, water pollution is rapidly occurring in these areas. It is expected that the government will be able to improve the economic and social conditions of the farmers due to the government providing the latest technology to the farmers and controlling the prices of the agricultural commodities.

A study on the factors that contribute to the water shortage in the Tissawa Grama Niladhari Division
(Department of Geography, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2020) Dharmasena, W.M.H.U.; Arunashantha, H.A.S
Drought is one of the major natural disasters that affect human beings. It results in the drinking water crisis as well as livelihood disruption. Tissawa Grama Niladhari Division belongs to the East Panduwasnuwara DSD. Hence the main objective of this research is to identify the natural and human facts that cause the water crisis that affect Thissawa village during the period of North-East Monsoon. In this study, the primary data was obtained through questionnaires and unstructured interviews with villagers of Thissawa, from observations. A group of thirty people was selected using a non-random sampling method. Secondary data were obtained through research papers, books, and the internet. Microsoft Excel was used for data analyzing and processing. Geological Information System (GIS) was used for creating maps and data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively through graphs and tables using Excel. The majority of the sample taken for the survey is engaged in agriculture as their livelihood. Hence, cultivation hazards caused by drought directly impact on the annual income of the villagers. Since tanks are not capable of providing the water requirement, lack of rainfall has become the prominent factor for the failure of cultivation. When the soil is dry due to the intense sunshine, the soil is left with water. The small tanks are filled with mud and can not hold much water. Human activities that affect water shortage include clearing the jungles of the area and using them for cultivation. Even though villagers have a trend to cultivate beetle, vegetables, and banana, they are discouraged by the lack of water. Water should be stored in this area. If the mud is removed, the tanks can be deepened to collect more water. The water of Kolamunu oya which flows through this area can be reserved in an anicut or a tank through a canal. Through this people can be encouraged to cultivate crops that are suitable for this climate. Such remedies can be applied to this problem.
