Its distinctive activities include promotion of the library services and conducting professional courses. The aim of this article is to examine how the inscriptions the facts revealed by other historical sources.Item The importance of Malayatana as education centers in Sri Lanka: until the 13th century A.D.(University of Kelaniya, 2007) Ranasinghe, R.H.I.S.Mulayatana were originated and developed as higher Buddhist education centers. There were eight Mulayatanas belonged to Mahavihara, Abhayagiri and Jethawana Buddhist sects. These Mulayatana were centers of learning, holding the positions of universities for higher studies.
