Item Geographic information system for solid waste management: a case study in Rabukkana city limit(University of Kelaniya, 2008) Senarathne, P.H.M.P.K.Item Importance of Producing Spatially Referenced Digital National Identity Card Using Geographical Information System (GIS)(University of Kelaniya, 2007) Senarathne, P.H.M.P.K.National Identity Card (NIC) is a crucial document for any individual. It bears information that enable to relevant authorities to trace about the citizenship, name, and address, date of birth and reference ld number of the NIC holder. Though these information help identify a person, it dose not support to discover the ground location of the ID bearer. Today This has become a problem for authorities to trace where the ID bearer is. This shortcoming of ID is a source for many corruptions. These main objectives of the present the main objective for this study is to propose new strategy to overcome the above mentioned difficulty. The problem of lack of information on spatial location can be solved easily by including coordinates of the national grid system. This coordinate can be used as the reference number of the computerized data based to get detaile_d information of the particular person when needed. Coordinates of the national grid system can he included using a secret method by introducing digital code system. This code system can be transform at into digital numbers, coordinates and relevant information can be displayed on a computer screen using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and its facilities. Spatial information of the NIC important for authorities of security forces, divisional secretariats, schools and other many persons who refer to the NIC. Therefore, input data on spatial location one important many people for many reasons. GIS and cartographic facilities available are to be utilized for this study.Item Preparation of natural resources and environmental management framework using GIS technology for sustainable livelihood in Anamaduwa DSD(University of Kelaniya, 2008) Senarathne, P.H.M.P.K.An efficient, effective and user friendly strategy should be with planners, policy makers and general public to manage natural resources and environment in a sustainable manner. The main objective of the current study is to prepare such a program using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). The GIS is an automated and well developed computer based technology. This technology is used widely in the world. GIS plays a major role in many fields such as water management, land use management and traffic management. The livelihood of people in Anamaduwa DSD depends mainly on agricultural sector. Therefore, natural resources and environment should be managed properly to develop the economy in the area. This study attempts to combine GIS technology and the factors that determine the livelihood to create a database on natural resources and environment. GIS would help to maintain the database, analyze data and identify the problem and propose possible solutions for the problems of the study area. Also, GIS can display results effectively to understand even for an ordinary person. The findings of this study may help those who need variable and viable data on natural resources and environment of the study area.
