Item The Effect of CSR Initiatives on Employee Engagement: A Case of a Leading Tyre Manufacturing Company in Sri Lanka(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Nanayakkara, H. M. K.; Sangarandeniya, Y. M. S. W. V.This study aims to assess the impact of organizational Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives on employee engagement at work. The study sample consisted of 57 business professionals of XYZ International Sri Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., a multinational tyre manufacturing company. This was quantitative and cross-sectional research study. The data were collected using self-administered questionnaires which was personally distributed and emailed to the respondents in the selected sample. Simple regression analysis was used to test the study hypotheses. Analyzed results showed a significant impact of CSR initiatives on employee engagement. The study results clearly underlined the potential of firm’s involvement in CSR activities in influencing the employee attitude and behavior which means the level of engagement at work. Furthermore, this study raises the need for companies to look at their CSR strategies in a more serious and a holistic approach. Even though many determinants of Employee Engagement are found, impact of internal communication on employee engagement is not investigated specially in Sri Lankan context. Bridging the gap in the context, the current study assessed the impact of internal communication on employee engagement. This study was carried out as a cross-sectional study among a sample of 165 out of 290 Employees working in the zonal Education office Denuwara using simple random sampling. Data was collected from the sample through a standard questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using correlation, regression, and descriptive statistics. The results of the study revealed a positive impact of internal communication on employee engagement. These findings suggest that it is very important in establishing proper internal communication machinist within organizations to enhance the engagement of employees in their job. Moreover, it is important to conduct similar studies in the same area in different industries, along with the comparison among separate employee categories.Item Factors Affecting Management Students’ Attitudes toward the LMS. With Special Reference to Leading University in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka, 2022) Karunathilaka, A. D. H. G. U. L.; Sangarandeniya, Y. M. S. W. V.This study aimed to find out how perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and perceived convenience affect the attitudes of undergraduates. A sample of 254 final year undergraduates of the faculty of leading University were selected for the study using the convenience sampling method. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, simple regression analysis, and multiple regression analysis were mainly used to analyze the gathered data. The results showed that all three factors considered, i.e., Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived Usefulness, and Perceived Convenience significantly and positively impact student attitudes towards the LMS. The researcher suggests comparatives studies in the future on the same area among the students who read for Degree programs in different streams, such as Information Technology, Science and Art, etc.Item The Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Employee Engagement: Evidence from a Private Commercial Bank in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka, 2022) Kumarasinghe, S. V.The main purpose of this research study was to determine the impact of emotional intelligence on employee engagement in executive level employees in Sampath Bank. The association between emotional intelligence and employee engagement is well-established in western literature. Still, few studies have examined in Sri Lanka context banking sector. This is the first study that examines the impact of emotional intelligence on employee engagement in executive level employees in Sampath Bank especially about executive above cadre employee category in banking sector. Hence this was a quantitative and cross-sectional research study. This methodology reviews existing literature related to the research theme and primary data. Primary data have been collected through structured and standard questionnaires using convenience sampling. The measures of the study were of good quality after ensuring reliability and validity. Data were collected from 179 respondents, 60.05% of the expected sample size. Simple regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses of the study. Analysed results showed a significant impact of emotional intelligence on employee engagement in executive level employees in Sampath Bank. Analysed results showed a significant impact of emotional intelligence on employee engagement in executive – level employees in Sampath bank. It will be a more reliable and valid study with a larger sample from around the country all employees.Item Impact of Grievance Handling on Employees’ Job Satisfaction(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2021) Jayawickrama, P. V.Employee satisfaction has become one of the foremost studied topics over the last few decades in organizational settings as it directly links with the various organizational outcomes. The current study intended to investigate the impact of grievance handling on employees’ job satisfaction in a selected bank in Sri Lanka by considering the insights given in the theories and models. Data were collected through conducting a survey with special reference to a selected bank by distributing the electronic self-administered questionnaire which was developed based on validated and standard measurement scales introduced by the previous authors. The results of the correlation analysis indicate a strong positive relationship between grievance handling and employees’ satisfaction. Furthermore, the result of the simple regression analysis suggests that grievance handling of the bank significantly affects employee job satisfaction consequently, this will help the practitioners to rethink their grievance handing procedures applying for employees that will lead to higher employees’ satisfaction.Item The Impact of Internal Communication on Job Satisfaction: A Study of Executive Level Employees in Apparel Industry(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Madushani, K. V.The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of internal communication on job satisfaction of the executive level employees in a company operates in the apparel sector in Sri Lanka. Further it was focused to identify which internal communication method has the higher impact on job satisfaction. For this study, researcher randomly selected 70 the executive employees from a company operates in the apparel sector in Sri Lanka. To analyze the collected data, different analytical methods used such as descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis. The correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationship of internal communication as well as the sub-variables of internal communication with job satisfaction. Regression analysis was used to identify the impact of internal communication on the job satisfaction and to further analysis to identify the most significant sub-variables of internal communication which impact on the job satisfaction. Correlation results shows that there is a positive strong relationship between internal communication and job satisfaction. V.The purpose of this study is to find the impact of knowledge sharing on individual work performance and find the difference in the impact of knowledge sharing impact on individual work performance between generation y and baby boomers. The survey data were collected from 97 executive and above employees in ABC (Pvt.) Ltd. Company, in printing media sector, Sri Lanka. Standard questionnaires were used to collect data from the sample and correlation analysis and regression analysis were used to assess the research model. The results of the study indicate that the knowledge sharing has a significant positive impact on individual work performance. Further, Employees in baby boomer generation have a greater impact of knowledge sharing on individual work performance than Generation Y employees. S.; Sangarandeniya, Y. M. S. W. V.The impact of employee mindfulness on work engagement has attracted much debate over the past two decades. The present study investigated work engagement among executive-level employees and its correlation to mindfulness in a selected organization in the service industry. To achieve this objective, a cross-sectional research approach was adopted for this study. This is descriptive research and data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire through an online questionnaire survey. The final sample of the study consisted of 133 respondents. To analyze the received data, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were mainly used. It intended to examine and identify the impact and magnitude of employee mindfulness on employee’s work engagement. The findings of the study reveal that there is a significant relationship between mindfulness and employee work engagement. Further, the results show that there is a significant impact of mindfulness on employee work engagement. Moreover, conclusions and recommendations have been made to enhance the company work engagement. The study revealed that high mindfulness employees engaged in their daily routines and work with more enthusiasm.Item The Impact of Organizational Justice on Organization Commitment of Management Level Employees in XYZ Company in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka, 2022) Kavindi, S. M. N.; Sangarandeniya, Y. M. S. W. V.This study aims to examine the impact of organizational justice on organizational commitment of managerial employees in XYZ company in Sri Lanka. The study espoused descriptive and correlational research designs with a statistical sample of 132 managerial employees in XYZ company in Sri Lanka. Justice comprehensions were measured using Colquitt’s four construct model comprising of distributive, procedural, interpersonal and informational justice while organizational commitment was measured through Meyer’s three component model comprising of affective, continuance and normative commitment. Inferential statistics comprising of correlation, multiple linear regression models and ANOVA analysis were applied `to establish the impact of the independent on dependent variables. Qualitative data was analyzed through the use of questionnaires. Based on the findings, the study concluded that organizational justice has a positive influence on organizational commitment. Top management of Organization should be aware that the fairness of procedures used in allocating rewards, decision making, and the voice afforded employees in the allocation process are improving level of employees’ commitment in an organization. For organizational procedures to be perceived as fair, they should be applied consistently.Item Impact of Perceived Benefits of Work from Home on Employee Job Satisfaction(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2021) Jayasuriya, J. M. S. L.; Sangarandeniya, Y. M. S. W. V.The purpose of this research is to identify the impact of perceived benefits of work from home on employee job satisfaction. In addition to that, this study intends to contribute to fill the literature gap by looking into the relationship between perceived benefits of work from home and employee job satisfaction. This is a quantitative and correctional study done in a non-contrived setting. The sample of 146 executive-level employees of a selected leading private hospital in Sri Lanka were considered as the sample of the study and data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire. This study investigates how working from home influences employees’ work effort. According to Gajendran and Harrison (2007) only a minority of employees always work from home, the majority spend just a few days per month at home. Therefore, it is also important for employers to know how employees’ work effort is affected by frequency. Thus, we additionally consider the working from home frequency in our empirical analysis. However, a lot of employer’s fears that employees exploit the freedom when working from home and lower their individual work effort. Our empirical analysis shows that working from home has a statistically significant positive effect on work effort. In addition to inducing higher work effort, employers can benefit from the implementation of working from home, as they can save operating costs due to reduced office space.Item The Impact of Perceived Job Security on Employee Commitment: A Study of Non- Executive Level Employees in Outsourcing Companies(5th HRM Student Research Symposium 2018, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2018) Mihirani, K. V.The main objective of this study was to examine whether there is a significant impact of job security on employee commitment of non-executive level in outsourcing companies. This was important study because it will help organizations in outsourcing industry to have an in depth understanding influence of job security on employee commitment. The population of interest was the non-executive employees in five outsourcing companies under study. Sample of the study comprised 242 non-executive employees and the stratified random sampling technique was used to draw a sample of 164 respondents. Questionnaire method was used as the data collection method for the study. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis were used as the main data analysis tools in this study. According to regression coefficient, there was a positive impact of job security on employee commitment. In addition to that, this study intends to contribute to fill the knowledge gap by looking into the relationship between perceived organizational learning culture and employee wellbeing. Although the between perceived organizational learning culture and employee wellbeing established in western literature, very few studies have examined these with organizational learning culture in Sri Lankan context, especially in finance industry. This study explored the relationship and examined the influence of perceived organizational learning culture on employee wellbeing among the employees who work in the selected company. This research follows the deductive research approach. The study was conducted using survey research strategy and quantitative research method. Sampling technique was used to calculate the sample size. Accordingly, sample size was 109 observations and used primary data as the data source, data collection was done through a self-administrated questionnaire. A google form was created and distributed to collect data. The statistical package for Social Science (SPSS), version 23.0 was used as the tool for the data analysis and both descriptive and inferential statistics namely correlation and regression were used to analyze data. The results indicate that perceived organizational learning culture has a significant positive effect on Employee wellbeing.Item Impact of Psychological Empowerment on Organizational Commitment(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2021) Kanchanamala, R. M. H.; Sangarandeniya, Y. M. S. W. V.Highly committed employees are required for the organizations which want to have a sustained competitive advantage in the product and labor market. Hence, psychological empowerment is the new fuel for the growing and booming workplace. The purpose of this study was investigating that how psychological empowerment impact on organizational commitment of machine operators working in a selected apparel firm in Sri Lanka. This study was carried out as a cross sectional field study among a sample of 169 machine operators in the selected apparel firm. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the sample and primary data were collected using a standard questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, regression analysis, and correlation analysis were mainly used to analyze the data. It is found that there is a significant impact of psychological empowerment on organizational commitment of machine operators working in the selected organization. Further, it is expected that the findings of the study are very important for the organizations enhancing employee commitment of their workforce. Further, it is recommended for future researchers to conduct studies in the same area in different industries and different cultures and that will add more insights on the changes in nature of the effect of employee empowerment on employee commitment in different contexts.Item Impact of Safety Climate on Employee Engagement: A Study of Operational Level Employees in ABC Apparel (Pvt) Limited, Sri Lanka(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2021) Karunarathna, K. D. S. R.; Sangarandeniya, Y. M. S. W. V.This study aimed to assess the impact of safety climate on employee engagement. This study is carried out as quantitative explanatory research work. Further, this is cross-sectional research, and a standard questionnaire was used to collect primary data. Questionnaires were distributed to a sample of 181 operational-level employees in the selected organization in the apparel sector and convenience sampling was employed in selecting the sample. Then the strength of association was measured through correlation statistics derived from Pearson correlation analysis and the results illustrate a strong positive relationship between the safety climate and employee engagement. Moreover, the regression analysis results reveal that there is a significant positive impact of safety climate on employee engagement. The present study would provide valuable insights illustrating how practitioners can improve employee work engagement through provide them with a safe work climate within the organization.Item Impact of Safety Climate on Employee Well-Being: A Study of Employees of ABC Company in the Manufacturing Industry(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka, 2022) Kanchanamala, W. Therefore, this study attempted to understand how the safety climate impacts on employee wellbeing. Thus, the main purpose of this study was to identify whether there is a positive impact of safety climate on employee wellbeing in ABC Company in the manufacturing industry. Although the associations between safety climates on employee wellbeing are well established in western literature, it is hard to find studies that examined the impact of safety climate on employee wellbeing in the Sri Lankan setting. This was a quantitative and cross-sectional research study. Data were collected from 357 employees working in a selected manufacturing organization. Primary data for the study were collected through a structured standard questionnaire. The measures of the study were of good quality after ensuring reliability and validity. Simple regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses of the study. The results of the study showed a significant positive impact of safety climate on employee wellbeing in the selected organization in the manufacturing industry.Item Impact of Telecommuting Intensity on Occupational Stress(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2021) Jayamanna, J. M. S. S.; Sangarandeniya, Y. M. S. W. V.During the global pandemic COVID-19, there are many organizations around the world have been transformed into telecommuting working practices. It is a new experience for a developing nation like Sri Lanka. Before the pandemic, they are more familiar with physical working practices. New telecommuting working practices cause increased occupational stress. This research study aims to assess the impact of telecommuting intensity on occupational stress. The research framework mainly highlights the impact of the independent variable; telecommuting intensity on the dependent variable; occupational stress. The study was a quantitative and cross-sectional study. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire through an online questionnaire survey. The convenience sampling technique was applied to select the sample, and the final sample consisted of 132 respondents. The study’s findings showed a strong positive relationship between telecommuting intensity and occupational stress of executive-level employees in a selected manufacturing company in Sri Lanka. Further, exhibited that telecommuting intensity has a significant positive impact on occupational stress. The organizations must develop a plan to support telecommuters by providing flexible working hours and arranging online stress management programs for them. Cross-validation of this study’s findings to be done in various industries and different cultures comparatively among a more significant sample in subsequent studies is recommended, which will add more insights to the present study’s substance.Item The Impact of Trainee Characteristics, Training Design, and Work Environment on the Transfer of Training: A Study of Executive Level Employees of a Selected Tea Manufacturing Company in Sri Lanka(International Journal of Research and Innovation in Social Science, 2023) Rebecca, E.; Sangarandeniya, Y. M. S. W. V.The primary purpose of this study was to identify the factors affecting the Transfer of Training. The current study was designed to study three main factors: Trainee Characteristics, Training Design, and Work Environment which were identified as possible factors that influence the Transfer of Training. Standard questionnaires were used to collect primary data for the study. This is a cross-sectional study done in a non- contrived setting. The study respondents were the entire population of 105 executive-level employees who had attended training programs in the selected organization and the final sample was 88 executive-level employees. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, simple regression analysis, and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data. According to the results of correlation analysis, it was revealed that there is a positive relationship between all three independent variables (Trainee Characteristics, Training Design, and Work Environment) and the Transfer of Training. The results of simple regression analysis revealed that Trainee Characteristics, Training Design and Work Environment significantly and positively impact the Transfer of Training. Moreover, the multiple regression analysis results indicate that there is a significant impact of the Work Environment and Training Design on the Transfer of Training, compared to the influence of Trainee Characteristics. Therefore, this study suggests that organizations can successfully achieve the expected outcomes from their training programs by ensuring the transfer of training through proper designing of the training programs and improving factors related to the work environment. This study was carried out only on one organization that operates in the tea manufacturing industry in Sri Lanka, and future researchers can extend the scope of this study by investigating other industries and other country contexts.Item Impact of Workplace Spirituality on Employee Commitment(Department of of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2021) Kaushalya, R. V.In today’s challenging and competitive environment, organizations and institutes are making continuous effort to improve the employee commitment of their employees. The purpose of this study is to provide an empirical investigation of workplace spirituality and employee commitment. This study aimed to explore the impact of workplace spirituality on employee commitment. This study followed the deductive research approach. Further, it is a quantitative study done as a cross-sectional field study. Usable questionnaires were received from 52 respondents. Data were analyzed mainly using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. Correlation analysis results indicate that there is a significant positive relationship between workplace spirituality and employee commitment. Further, the regression analysis, results indicate that workplace spirituality significantly impacts employee commitment. Workplace spirituality is found to be a strong and consistent predictor of employee commitment. The findings of the study show the practical implications for managers and employees that how they could increase employee commitment level through improving workplace spirituality.Item Impact of Workplace Spirituality on Organizational Citizenship Behaviour of Employees at ABC Company.(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka, 2022) Kaumadi, P. N.; Sangarandeniya, Y. M. S. W. V.The purpose of this study is to empirically test the impact of workplace spirituality on organizational citizenship behaviour of employees at ABC company. In addition, this research intends to contribute to filling the knowledge gap by looking into the relationship between Organizational Citizenship Behaviour and Spirituality at workplace. This research was conducted by using survey research strategy and Quantitative research method. Operational - level employees of ABC company were selected as the population of the study. A convenient Sampling technique was used to calculate the sample size. Accordingly, sample size was 92 observations and used primary data as data source, data collection was done through a self-administered questionnaire. A Google form was created and distributed to collect data. Both descriptive and inferential statistics such as, correlation and regression were used to analyzed data. The results indicate that Workplace Spirituality has significant positive impact on the Organizational Citizenship Behaviour of employees in the company. It is expected that the model can support facilitating and promoting the workplace spirituality at workplace because there was an impact of workplace Spirituality on the Organizational Citizenship Behaviour of employees at ABC company in the manufacturing sector.
