Item Antecedents of Facebook Updates, and the Role of Personality of Facebook Users in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya., 2018) Sarathchandra, K. S. H.; Nimeshi, G. K. S.; Ranwala, R. S.; Panditharathne, K. M.; Kaushala, B. A. H.; Wimalasiri, R. K. H. S.; Mallika, M. C. K. H.; Ranasinghe, R. S. L. B.This study is to prove the impact of different motives in updating Facebook status and role of personality in Facebook updates. Therefore, the study is focus to identify the impact of motive namely validation, communication and self-expression on Facebook status updates while it is examining the moderation effect of individual personality on original relationship. As study is based on the Facebook users, population of the study consist of all Facebook users and based on the convenience sampling method researchers have selected 252 Facebook users in Sri Lanka as the sample of the study. Data were collected from the sample using a researcher developed questionnaire. In order to prove hypotheses and make inferences, regression analysis was employed in the study. Moreover, regression analysis proved that there is an impact from validation, communication and self-expression on Facebook status updates. Further, the relationship between validation, communication and self-expression with Facebook status update is moderated by the extraversion and openness to experience. Based on the inferences of the study, it can be concluded that validation, communication and self-expression act as motives to update Facebook status and the intensity of that motives depend on the personality of an individual.Item Digital Divide & the Impact on Merit-Based University Admission: A Case of Sri Lanka(Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka, 2023) Ranasinghe, R. S. L. B.As the world has seen an unprecedented growth of technology resulting in the information age, the long-experienced issues of resource distribution inequalities, especially in developing nations have taken a drastic turn causing digital divide. Sri Lanka, with constant issues of disparity in a conventional outset, is yet to establish a proper association of digital disparity, in the case of education of country’s youth. The purpose of the study is to test whether a linear relationship exists in between the defined two variables and to establish directional impact from the predictor variable towards the outcome denoted. Quantitative data of continuous nature for a longitude of five years which are readily available in the public domain in secondary sources were used. Preliminary Pearson’s coefficient test was conducted to determine association while a detailed impact was tested using the simple regression analysis. Results indicated a strong positive linear relationship between the predictor and outcome variables. Regression analysis resulted in the establishment of a strong positive impact of computer literacy (lack of digital divide) towards university admission. As a linear association was established, and a potential causality proposed, it is concluded that the computer literacy or the lack of digital divide reflected by it, has a positive impact on university admission. Further studies in survey format or qualitative exploration would be instrumental in implementing curative steps for the matter.Item Perception of Situations and Opportunity Recognition: Development of a Conceptual Model.(8th International Conference on Business & Information ICBI – 2017, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka., 2017) Nimeshi, G. K. S.; Mallika, M. C. K. H.; Ranasinghe, R. S. L. B.; Sarathchandra, K. S. H.; Dissanayake, D. M. N. S. W.The multidimensional view of opportunity recognition is addressed differently by number of scholars. However theoretical bases in this regard are still fragmented. We addressed the suggestion of Shepherd, (2015) and develop a conceptual framework on perception of situation as opportunity. Perception of situation as opportunity, prior knowledge, prior experience and processing style have been identified as main constructs of the study. Pertaining propositions were established and finally the conceptual model was developed to depict the perception of situation as opportunity. Also, the application of these constructs in a different context has significant implications. Finally, we confirmed that, more scholarly investigations are required in this regard to validate the applicability of the model.
