(3rd International Conference on Library and Information Management, Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2019) Maheswaran, R.
The purpose of this paper is to provide an account of digital archiving and preservation practices and processes successfully implemented at the University of Peradeniya Library. This Library Digital Preservation is the Process for maintenance of Digital Resources over the long-term with a view to ensure sustained accessibility. The scope of the Digital Preservation, which started with faculty research papers, has been enhanced to accommodate research papers, speeches/lectures, office orders/memorandums, videos, annual reports and the in-house database. This paper attempted to focus on the need and features of open source software in digital preservation with a successful adoption of open source software for University of Peradeniya Library. It also tried to explain all the aspects with a practical approach that are planned for digital preservation for its research publications and other collections

Mapping the Literature on the Application of Image Processing in the Medical Field: A Scientometric Analysis
(Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2023) Maheswaran, R.; Krishnan, P. Hari
The application of image processing in the Medical field has witnessed remarkable growth and innovation. This scientometric analysis delves into the vast body of literature that explores this intersection, aiming to map the landscape of research and development in this crucial domain. Our research uses scientometric approaches to analyze and synthesize a large corpus of scientific publications, including journal articles, conference papers, and patents. We investigate major trends, notable study topics, influential authors, and the growth of knowledge networks. The study was designed using a scientometric approach, with data extracted from a renowned database, Web of Sciences, from 2004 to 2023. A total of 1723 journals and conference proceedings from Web of Science database were analyzed. Trends within the field are identified, as are the dominant sub-fields and their interconnections, as well as citation patterns, key publications, key research institutions, key researchers, and key journals, along with the extent to which these interact with each other in research networks. The stages are as follows: (1) identification, keyword selection, and formation of the search strategy with the permission of a panel of computer scientists and librarians; and (2) design and construction of a flawless algorithm to validate these selected keywords in Web of Science title-abstract-keywords. (3) Processing data in certain cutting-edge bibliometric visualization tools, Biblioshiny R and VOSviewer (4) analyzing the findings for practical consequences. This study's findings shed light on the critical significance of image processing in Medical research and clinical practice. Our study contributes to a greater understanding of the contributions and difficulties within this dynamic junction of technology and healthcare by recognizing emerging subfields, significant research, and the interplay between many disciplines. This scientometric investigation provides insights that can help researchers, policymakers, and industry experts navigate the changing landscape of Medical image processing, ultimately leading to breakthroughs that benefit both healthcare practitioners and patients.

Status of Institutional Repositories in SAARC Countries: An Analytical Study
(Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, 2016) Maheswaran, R.
This paper examines the usage of institutional repositories in SAARC countries. The data for the study has been collected from the website of respective institutions in each SAARC country. The study analyzed the Communities and Sub Communities, Contribution of authors of the institutional repositories in SAARC Countries. This study adopted an analytical method where the data are readily available in the website. At first, the institutions that are using Dspace software for building Institutional repository in each of the eight SAARC countries were identified and sorted out separately. Then data regarding the collections, communities etc were separately collected from the website the respective institutions. The study also further analysed the number of institutions using Dspace ,their collections, number of Communities and Sub Communities available, number of authors etc.,. All these data were subsequently tabulated for making observations. This paper analyzes the usage of institutional repositories in SAARC countries. In India, Jadavpur University and Osmania University has the maximum number of collections. In Sri Lanka, University of Colombo and University of Peradeniya has the maximum number of collections. In Bangladesh, BRAC University Institutional Repository and Daffodil International University Institutional Digital Repository has the maximum number ofcollections. In Afghanistan, ACKU Library Catalogue has the highest number of collections. In Nepal, Madan PuraskarPustakalayahyas the maximum number of collections.
