    A Sociological Study on the Attitudes of Men on the Tendency of Sri Lankan Women towards Beauty Culture

    In the contemporary word, women tend to consume beauty cosmetics and beauty cultural techniques .Beauty culture is defined as it focuses on physical appearance and aesthetics which enhances the natural beauty through beauty products and fashions. Generally people possess various attitudes on beauty culture. Attitude is simply a predisposition or a tendency to respond negatively or positively combination of five major components, towards a certain idea, object, person or situation. The main purpose of this study is to identify the attitudes of men about the usage of beauty culture by Sri Lankan women .The survey method and case studies were used to gather primary data .The primary data was collected through observation, interviews and questionnaire .The sample was selected randomly100 men aged between 20-30 years, who is married and unmarried, lives in Gampaha divisional secretariat . 65 %of the unmarried men possess positive point of views towards the women’s tendency towards beauty culture .Among them 52 %of the married men seem to be different in their perspective due to their nature of job, economic stability and religion .However, 41 %of the married men have a favorable attitude in this regard .This research mainly found that men’s attitudes on the tendency of women towards beauty culture vary due to their marital status and age. As per the study, the tendency of women towards beauty culture even determines the willingness of men to maintain their relationship with women.

    A Study of the Awareness of Sexual and Reproductive Health among Unmarried Young Women

    Reproductive health affects the lives of women and men from conception to birth, through adolescence to old age, and includes the attainment and maintenance of good health as well as the prevention and treatment of ill-health. The knowledge and the awareness of sexual and reproductive health differs due to various factors. It varies due to environment, social economic conditions, educational background, age, ethnicity, religion and other factors. Sexual and reproductive health is a taboo subject that is usually not discussed in public. The main purpose of this study is to identify the issues of unmarried young women regarding sexuality and reproductive health. Survey method was followed to collect primary data for this research while direct interviews were followed in some cases. The sample is taken from unmarried young women, irrespective of their religion and ethnicity, between 15-30 years covering the Hiniduma Grama Niladari Division. This study found that the awareness of sexual and reproductive health among young women is low due to their low educational level. On the other hand, women have gained knowledge of sexuality through informal ways. The women who contributed to this study seem to have acquired sexual and reproductive awareness from their peers. Besides, the main source though which most of the respondents gained knowledge and information of sexual and reproductive health was the Internet. Further this research identified the vital need for improving the reproductive health knowledge of these young women in the Hiniduma division. Improving the facilities and man-power of existing governmental organizations should be looked into. The respective organizations and national health clinics should initiate further counselling and address the issues of these young women face in order to to enhance the awareness of reproductive knowledge of the young women in this area.

    A study on the influence of Electronic Media towards criminal behavior within the process of crime reporting (with reference to Welikada prison)

    Presently a grave tendency of crimes being increased day by day in the country has been observed from the recent past. Although penitentiaries, social sanctification institutes, police service for securing public peace are available and regular discourses are being endured within the society regarding punishment, continuous heightening of crimes could be observed in the society as an unvarying routine. Communication media remains at a foremost stand among other information transmuting systems. Out of them mass media institution play a distinct role in the process of information dissemination Despite the fact that the war which existed over a period of thirty years has come to an end, it could be observed that crimes are intensely, escalating continually. Accordingly, this study was conducted with reference to Welikada prison in order to ascertain the extent of influence generated by electronic media regarding criminal conduct within the process of reporting of crimes. The study problem is to ascertain as to how the reporting of crimes by electronic media will influence the criminal conduct. Criminal conduct that emerges in individuals causes backwardness of the society. The main objective of this study is to identity whether crime reporting by electronic media has had any impact on creating backwardness in the conduct of the modern society. It could be concluded that crime reporting by electronic media has caused an impact on the conduct of society. Primary data were collected through questionnaires from 60 data contributors. Qualitative data were studied under case study. Finally it could be concluded at Electronic media had caused an impact on the society by reporting news regarding crimes. In this main finding regrad electronic media influence the increase in rape and robbery carried out, electronic media programs have increased the number of criminals operating in Colombo, in addition also impact of print media.
