    How to Promote Tourism Industry for 21st Century? (An Analysis of Tourism Industry in the Uva Province)

    This paper focuses on an analysis based on ‘How to Promote Tourism Industry for 21st Century’. In Sri Lanka Tourism industry considered as much effective economic generating industry because, foreign exchange earnings, labor intensive, stimulate regional development & so on. However most of the foreign travelers to the island are attracted to tourism attractions in Sri Lanka. In fact, while considering about Uva Province in 21st century most of the nature lovers are attracted to natural attractions in the province. However, the only attraction is not natural attractions. The province is rich with much heritage and cultural attractions. By today Uva Province face critical problems as a result of exceeding the carrying capacity in natural attractions. To overcome the problem, we can promote heritage & cultural attractions around the area. Most of the heritage travelers attracted to most popular heritage sites in Sri Lanka such as Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, and Kandy etc. As a result of exceeding carrying capacity and other problems these sites get affected. These issues can be overcome by promoting virgin attractions to the travelers. Hence travelers can get experience not only with the nature, but also with heritage and culture by travelling to Uva Province. The travelers won’t get themselves exhausted by travelling to these sites because of the cold climate in the Uva Province. The full paper consists of five chapters. The first chapter, introduction part describes the selected area particularly and identifies the current situation. Learning objectives discuss about key outcomes and major objectives of the study. Review of Literature discusses the main theoretical points of the entire paper. As methodology and data analysis questionnaires were used and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) analysis was used to clarify and find out the way to promote a new tourism trend for the 21st century in the Uva Province. The study reveals that promotional methods comparing other related attractions is an important strategy

    Issues of Phonetics & Phonology in Learning Standard Chinese as Foreign Language.

    The Chinese language family is introduced as a major branch of the Sino-Tibetan family. The study of the sound system of language normally starts with phonetics followed by phonology. With the emergence of generative phonology, the whole field of phonology has changed significantly. Numerous works of many authors have gradually prepared the ground for a monograph that would re-examine the entire phonology of Mandarin from a new theoretical format. This research explores many issues of the Mandarin sound system that have not been studied previously. The issues faced by foreign students in learning Standard Chinese phonetics and phonology have been a matter of much concern. This study focuses on the issues related to the use of consonants, vowels, glides, tones, and pinyin. Questionnaires and SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) have been adopted as the methods of data collecting and analyzing respectively. This study reveals the nature of phonetics and phonology in Standard Chinese, how students learn Chinese, the issues raised on Phonetics & phonology in Standard Chinese, its negative impact, and solutions to reduce these issue. It futher reveals proper learning methodology & practices to develop accurate phonography & phonology in Standard Chinese. The richness of its composition enables the identification of the correct rules of phonetics & phonology in Standard Chinese.

    Sri Lankan traditional culinary heritage for personal image building

    The study of Sri Lankan Traditional Culinary Heritage for personal image building is a major outcome of Sri Lankan identity built through culinary heritage. As a result of this study, culinary heritage is clarified as soft power. Sri Lankan society is typically rich in high culinary heritage. The term 'soft power' was coined in 1990 by Professor Joseph Nye to explain how modern states can use positive attraction and persuasion to achieve global influence (GÜNEK, 2018). Soft power is a new type and face of power. If you want to influence foreign countries, you should have a good image regarding the foreign audience. When considering the identification of Sri Lankan heritage, Sri Lankan Traditional culinary is the best way to identify their image. Therefore, the study is done in the tourism industry to identify the way of building a personal image with culinary heritage. The main objective of this paper is to understand the Sri Lankan Culinary heritage as a soft power and to identify personal image building via the tourism industry. This is a case study of the reviews of foreigners based on Sri Lankan Traditional Cookery Class named Ella Spice Land. The research area is based on Sri Lankan Traditional Cuisine, the level of how they understand the personal image through the cuisine and what kind of personal image is built among tourists through the culinary heritage in Sri Lanka. The methods of data collection were questionnaire analysis and Observation. Data is analyzed based on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) Analysis. It especially examines the main culinary heritage which influenced to build the personal image. To overcome identified problems, it provides a code of ethic and suggestions to develop culinary heritage in Sri Lanka.
